Ok, I’ll admit it. Time to boost the rating on this one. This must always be in my cupboard, it’s the best fruit tisane I’ve come across. Beats Forever Nuts (because it’s not as saccharine sweet).

I’m really annoyed, too, because I’ve been trying to wean off T2 now it’s owned by Unilever.

But the heart wants what the heart wants.

Drank this tonight after cold brewing for around 24hrs and it continues to be wonderful. A lovely balance of tart sweetness. Crisp apple goodness.

Got a sample teabag in a mothers day gift from work (they’re big on all ladies getting mothers day stuff and all gents getting fathers day stuff… but weird, but whatever, it means my cat doesn’t need to buy me anything).

I was pleased and surprised by how much I enjoyed this. Creamy mint. Good job, twinings. Maybe I don’t need to long for DAVIDsTEA’s white chocolate frost after all. You might do…

Finishing my Mr. Earl May tea #2 in two forms today, cold brewed and a warm cup.

I butchered the cold brew a bit because I haven’t done a green before and it’s come out a bit too bitter. Darn that green tea! Oversteeped. Need to pay better attention to green cold brewing and remember I can’t leave them overnight (not that I did with this one, just left it for around 6hrs, should have been shorter—I actually lunged out of bed to stop this one steeping).

The hot brewed cup is very nice though. I think all the extra flavour fell to the bottom of the sachet! Got a mouth full of berries that complements the green tea and isn’t overwhelmed by it like in the cold brew.

Bye, Fairytale! You were nice and I’m sure people who like green teas will like you.

OK, today’s cold brew isn’t as sour. I suppose it’s how you feel about that mulberry flavour at any given time, but in the cold brew it’s less sour and more sweet berry (maybe overripe berry is a better way to describe it).

I’m happy to keep my rating at 60 for Gold Rush, and I’ll drink my final leaves hot this afternoon.

I’m starting to run out of easy sipdowns. With 70 teas in my house, I’m starting to run out of easy sipdowns. How is this even a thing. And I have 15 Butiki teas winging their way to me as I type. Sorry, 15 Butiki teas plus free samples, AND a swap.

Help. Send help.

Courtney

Tasting note #400, woo!

Except this is a bit of a sour note. Literally! My feelings have changed on this blend, and I’m sad to say that the mulberry is brewing a little sour for my tastes.

Really torn on bringing my rating down for this. Based on my scale I should throw it down to a 45 at the most but I can’t bring myself to do that.

I’ve got one more cup’s worth of blend, and a cold brew in the fridge, so a couple of drinks before I make my final note on you, Gold Rush.

Hmm.

As a licorice-despiser I was anxious about trying this, but I’m happy to say that whatever licorice in there is tolerable and unnoticeable. HOORAY! My favourite kind of licorice!

This is the perfect tea for me to be chugging in the lead-up to cold season. I’m scandalised that my body is being immune to the cold viruses running around so far this year. I thought you were weaker than this, immune system! What’s going on!? I’m not ACTUALLY complaining.

This tea smells delicious. I wanna eat it up. Delicious nutty and sweet dry leaf. The steeped tea smells near to the same, excellently enough, and even the tea itself tastes pretty darn close. Minimal licorice, almond is a legit flavour rather than that awful artificial flavour like in Alpine Punch. Winner winner all around. This is a nice mix of medicinal/tasty tea, it’s tricky for me to find one that’ll fit that double description!

Edit: it seems to get even tastier as it cools. I wonder if this could be quite nice as a cold brew…

Drinking a bottled unsweetened iced tea version from the store, bought primarily so I could re-use the bottle for my own cold brewing purposes!

This is very refreshing and lovely.

Another emo nostalgic sipdown. My very first DAVIDsTEAs are done and dusted… I’ve probably already told this story, but I’ll tell it again, as this will be my last chance to do so now.

Three years ago my family and I started talking about having a white Christmas. Around 12mths ago we finally locked it in and decided on Quebec City (followed by NYC, because when in Rome/North America). DAVIDsTEA was at the top of my to-do list, because tea.

Five weeks out from the trip we’d been planning forever, I broke my ankle.

I went on the trip anyway because I am a masochist and also hate missing out on things, and even though my expenses would have been covered by insurance, my family sure as shit would have still gone and had a ball!

Because of the broken ankle I was pretty useless in the heavy snow of Quebec City. I got into a Davids when we went to Laurier shopping mall but the store was SO busy pre-Christmas that I was overwhelmed and got outta there.

But on Christmas Day I opened up a 12oz Timolino from my sister, and a tin each of Coffee Cake and White Chocolate Frost from my mum. And it was the best ever and I was super happy.

And now I don’t have either of those teas any more :( but all good things must end, so here’s where I leave the nostalgia behind! (Though I’ll probably hoard the tins forever now anyway, and huff them until the scents are gone, because DANG Coffee Cake smells soooooooooooo good.)

Translating my ratings, at a glance:

100 — CRITICAL OBSESSION LEVEL REACHED; CAN YOU MARRY TEA!?
95 — this must always be in my pantry. forever.
90 — excellent! you need to try this tea!
85 — very good! you should try this tea!
80-70 — I enjoyed this and will happily drink it again.
65-50 — Fine. Unremarkable.
45-35 — this wasn’t the worst drink ever but I was disappointed; it didn’t live up to my expectations at all.
30-0 — I didn’t enjoy this tea and that makes me sad.

MY TEASTORY:

Grandad got me started young, white (a LOT of white) Irish breakfast with two.

I never strayed far from that until the world of T2 Tea came to Brisbane some years ago, and now I don’t know what I’d do without a pantry full of tea options.

These days I prefer to drink my teas straight without sweetener (though I appreciate some black variations shine better with milk and/or a dash of honey/sugar). I also love a speedy iced tea (hot brewed then poured over ice), and my latest obsession is cold brewing (which doesn’t make a lot of sense, as Australia is headed into winter and I live in the coldest corner of the country, but oh well).

I’d love to make a bunch of tea friends on here, especially those who can talk Aussie teas with me. I’ve recently come back from a jaunt to North America and it was a real hoot to hit up DAVIDsTEA after reading so many reviews! I wish I’d had the chance to get to more stores… but I’m happy with what I got back past customs. See those teas and my local jams in my reviews.

I LOVE:
+ black teas
+ white teas
+ oolongs
+ flavoured versions of all three of the above
+ herbal infusions and fruit tisanes

NOT A FAN:
+ most green teas
+ LICORICE ROOT (my sworn enemy) and aniseed flavours
