Although I much prefer loose teas now as opposed to pre-baged ones I still like to try a new one every now and then. Usually they’re nothing special, I’ll try it once and that’s usually it other than the black tea bags and maybe a honey lemon that I always have on hand. This one, however, is now a must have in my cupboard.
More of a juice tea for sure, and super cool in it’s pink colour after being steeped. Personally I like to leave the bag in for this one the entire time to strengthen the taste. A little bitter tasting at times but not overwhelmingly so. I think this must come from the blackberries as I find it to be almost identical to when I eat them fresh.
I have to disagree with Indigobloom about the teabags. I find these to be extra sturdy and probably one of the best designs I’ve ever used in terms of not ripping…plus the triangle shape is just plain cool!
Tried this one iced for the first time the other day….steeped two bags in hot water to make sure it didn’t taste too watery and then poured over ice. Delicious!!! Actually probably one of the better iced teas I’ve had.
The only negative thing I would have to say is agreeing with the hibiscus flavour….I find you can only taste it when it’s at that in between point between hot and cold. Still steaming?? Great! Iced?? Great! Cooled off and sitting for a while?? Not so much.
Preparation
Thank you Jason for this unexpected HUGE tea Sample!
The background on this tea is…as I have been told by Jason is that while in Greece, he and his wife discovered this Middle Eastern Black Tea which is served “everywhere” (must be the Nescafe of tea’s) and they loved it. But, you can’t get it in the U.S. However, you can order it by the CASE…(which they did).
Now I have my generous sample! The package has Arabic, Indian, and English lettering… #1 Quality Orange Pekoe Tea from India! (Like a warning…all others keep out!)
I drank so much tea yesterday…arh…that I thought I’d ease into it slowly today! A tea bag instead of a whole pot of tea sounded brilliant! If this was meh…I’d toss the bag!
My translation of the Arabic (not) was to steep 4 minutes.
Oh yes! This was to be my one and only Lipton ephiphany! I was rolling over laughing! It served me right and just goes to show that any tea brand (even Lipton) can be so good when you least expect it.
The flavor was malty and rich…deep, without astringency. I thought it tasted smooth and full bodied so I added some milk and sweetening which made the perfect breakfast cup.
How did I miss this tea when I was in Turkey and Greece?!
(I was too busy drinking Mythos Beer!) OPA!
Thanks Jason! (I have 99 bags to go!)
(Should I make up a song like the 99 bottles of beer on the wall or something to honor the fact that I have 99 bags of this nice tea in my cupboard and I can do a countdown?!) Just sayin….
He he he. We have started using it to make a variation on Southern Sweet tea in a large pitcher that is actually better than anything we’ve made for that purpose before just to move through them at a higher rate. @ steepster readers: if anyone has even the smallest desire to give this one a go, send me a PM and I will send it your way!
Today was my first time having this tea. I purchased it because… well, I was on the tea aisle and I never leave empty-handed. Plus, it was somewhat on sale. There was a certain bitterness to it that I could not identify. I didn’t taste any strawberry or much else. I’m going to try again tonight to see if I get different results.
Preparation
Time really does mellow teas out. I must remember that!!
This… well it wasn’t so terrible this time around. Yay! The vanilla, it took a step back and let the berry peek out. Yes I quite enjoyed my cup. Still a bit too dusty and tart, but I can now see myself drinking the rest of it down. Raising the rating a bit!
Ehhhhh. I so badly want to like this one. but the smell… it’s so cloying and ugh!
The taste? well it’s ok. Freshly hot, it was full of vanilla, which is so not my thing… and then as it cools, I get alot more hibiscus. I’m not sure which one is worse?!? That said, it is a little creamy which I find odd for a juice tea, and the only enjoyable part.
Anyhow, DaisyChubb is right… rocket candies, berry flavoured ones all the way (once it cools a bit).
It didn’t help that little bits of berry snuck out of the pyramid bag.
What am I going to do with the rest of these pouches?! Maybe they’ll be better iced, and walloped with a spoonful or five of agave.
Overall, a thoroughly unimpressive tisane. I don’t know why but I expected more :(
It’s at work and it’s free so I thought I’d at least try it…
This tea came in one of those pyramid infusers but it doesn’t look like they’re the biodegradable kind (boo, hiss). I checked the list of ingredients for anything weird… no hibiscus, yay! But why do they need to put modified corn starch in here? that’s just weird.
As for the tea itself, it isn’t as dreadful as I was thinking it might be. It’s a blend of white and green teas with blueberry and pomegranate pieces. The pom is adding a bit of tartness but I’m glad it isn’t too tart. I’m getting more pom than blueberry and the tea flavor itself is somewhat obscured.
I don’t think I will run out and buy any for my personal collection but it certainly seems as good as anything I’ve had from Republic of Tea, for example.
I thought I would like it better after I poured it over ice but I think I preferred it hot.
Preparation
So I’m trying to get rid of these and used about four up last doing cold brew iced tea. This steeped at a little over 48 hours.
Still a very light taste, the peach is not quite as overwhelming. I can’t even taste the mangosteen (possibly not even sure what that tastes like).
Pretty much a “bleh” tea. I had bought these bags when I didn’t know much about tea, so it’s about time to use them up and never think of them again. ;)
Preparation
I’ve had this in the cabinet for a while, and feel this need to drink everything I can’t give away. It’s alright. I don’t have a super refined palate (yet!), but the mangosteen and peach are pretty indistinguishable, just a light “fruity” flavor.
Preparation
This tea will very quickly become too dark and bitter. It has a full flavour, even with short steeping times. Every piramid bag makes two cups. Don’t steep too long for the best taste.
