361 Tasting Notes
I totally forgot I ordered this tea. I remember looking at it but I have no memory of adding it to my cart. So I was quite surprised to find it in my order today. But I had a caramel apple tea from sTEAp the other day that was super good so I must have wanted to see if this was as good.
It isn’t. It’s okay. But it pretty much just tastes like one of those caramel covered apple suckers that we always ate in middle school. But only once all the caramel has been eaten off the sucker. So it still kind of tastes a tiny bit like caramel if you really concentrate, but mostly apple candy. The caramel flavor in the caramel cheesecake tea was so good I was hoping this would have the same, but its barely there. Disapointing.
I’m not sure when I’ll ever be in the mood for this tea, so if anyone wants it, I’ll swap it out.
100th Tasting Note!!!
I had been saving this tea for a time I could sit down and really enjoy each steeping. But finding those windows with 3 kids running around isn’t always easy. But then, while cleaning the kitchen today, I realized that cleaning the kitchen was the perfect time to drink it. It’s a crappy task, but optimal for drinking small amounts of tea at a time. And makes a crappy job way more fun!
I’ve been looking forward to this as the reviews make this sound super roasty and delicious. And it is! I got about 5 steeps that were really roast-a-licous, but then the roast flavor faded quickly. I didn’t actually love the resulting flavor. Seemed a little thin or something. But I did love the beginning steeps.
I also loved how it came in a little package that I could just dump in my gaiwain. No worrying about getting the optimal amount. I wonder what it would be like western style.
This was actually pretty good. I often want tea before I go running but don’t want anything too rich or heavy, but I don’t love fruity teas. This tea walks the line well. I’ll reorder this next time I need something from art of tea.
I just did the most amazing thing and i will never make matcha any other way again. Oh yeah. I’m feeling pretty smart right now.
I have some friends coming over in a bit to watch the final four games and need a little caffeine boost before all the beer starts being guzzled so I thought I’d make an iced matcha. I’ve already got my kitchen all cleaned up so I didn’t want to make much of a mess. I was back in my little tea nook and saw my breville milk cafe that I use to froth milk and remembered that it’s also a hot chocolate maker. That got my brain thinking. What if I just throw water and a splash of milk in the thing and then throw my matcha right in there.
Holy S&%t it’s so creamy and delicious. Perfectly mixed and frothy and creamy. I was going to pour it over ice but no way. This is delicious as is! And all I have to do is rinse the frothing mug and it’s ready for another use. I need to do a review of just the frother. I love that thing.
oh yeah, the cheesecake flavor is good too. That’s probably worth mentioning!
Very pleasantly surprised by this cup! I very rarely buy any flavored teas from Upton, but since I was grabbing all the other samples I figured I’d give this a go. Especially since I’m knee deep in a caramel phase. It smelled like caramel candy in the bag. Once brewed up, it has a nice caramel flavor on top of a smooth black tea. With a bit of raw honey and milk I’m having enjoyable treat. I’ll get a few mugs out of this sample. For $1. I love Upton samples.
I asked for suggestions for roasty black teas in the discussion board a week ago and one of the suggestions was to try Big Red Robe. Since Upton is my go to site for cheap samples of things I’m not sure I’ll like, I stocked up a variety of roasted oolongs. This is the first one.
I should have really taken notice of my mood before I made this. I’m just not in the mood for trying a whole new variety of tea. Maybe a new flavor of a tea I know I like, but I’m just not feeling experimental. Wish I’d realized that before I brewed this up.
That being said. I think I like this. It actually tastes more like a hojicha than anything else i can discern right now. But I’ll resteep the leaves this evening and see if anything else emerges. It’s ok. I don’t know if its what I’m looking for though. That’s why I love upton. $1 later I know that Big Red Robe teas (while I LOVE the name) are not necessarily my tea of choice. Not bad by any means, just not really what I’m looking for.
Backlog from yesterday.
This one was not great for me. I could taste the white chocolate, but the white tea was a little too strange a combo for me. I probably over steeped it but I’m not going to have the rest of my try me bag if anyone wants it. I actually have a bunch of samples I need to clear out if anyone wants some.
I needed a treat this morning. It was a long night of my cats hunting a mouse that has found his way into our brand new house. Grrrr. I’m kind of a tom boy in most things, but nothing gets me screaming like a little girl faster than a mouse. I know, totally cliche, but it’s the truth.
Plus the bean was up for 2 hours in the middle of the night. I’m beat.
Time to indulge in some more of this. I’ve been rationing it until my new bag comes, but I’m in need of a treat today. I accidentally over steeped it by a minute. Shoot. Since it’s an assam it got a little bitter, but nothing that a little scoop of raw honey can’t cure. I love this. I’m so excited to read all the other rave reviews that will be coming in.
See previous note for my review.
Bummer!
I’d be interested in at least a sample size of it. Look at my cupboard and let me know? If you have a decent amount I’d take that too, as a good friend of mine ADORES those suckers you mentioned and it would make a cute gift.
