165 Tasting Notes
With the heat lately, i’ve been trying to drink more iced teas. Unfortunately, most of the teas I have are not ideal to have cold. I picked up this tea, razzmatazz and mothers little helper today specifically to have iced. This tea has such a light and fruity scent which translates into the taste. The bamboo along with the fruit are really hydrating and refreshing which will be great for summer. The only complaint I have about this tea is the aftertaste; I plan on trying it warm as well to see if there is an aftertaste or if it is not as bad but iced, it definitely lingers in my mouth. That however, is certainly not enough to deter me from drinking it.
It was a hot one today…up to 38C at one point! I had to drop in for an iced tea as I was just so thirsty. I saw that this was the tea of the day and asked to smell the tea. It had a really light fruity smell and I just had to try it. I was a bit worried that the woody-ness of rooibos would take away from the light fruity taste of the tea. I was pleasantly to find that this tea was not woody at all and actually became more fruity as it steeped. I think this would have been equally good warm. I will be picking some more of this up for the summer to have iced!
So I stopped by the mall today and of course had to stop by my favourite store! I have been feeling off for a couple of days now and figured that if this is meant to be drank after a “wild night out” this should definitely do the trick for me! As I expected from a mixture of such strong ingredients, the flavour was quite potent and was comparable to tangerine dream and detox mixed together. There were strong citrus notes (both in the initial taste and after taste) however these were not too overpowering and the tea did seem to go down pretty smoothly. It didn’t taste like medicine but it definitely gave me the boost I needed. I can’t see myself craving this tea like I do with other ones but it certainly was refreshing and was a nice change. I probably won’t be picking up a large amount of this but maybe 15g to keep on hand for when I need it (just like I do for Cold 911, Gail’s Organic Cold Remedy and Le Digestif).
I dropped in today on my way home from the city. When I walked in, it was not busy at all but of course I took forever to pick a tea to try; I always try something new when I go in. Lets just say it’s pretty bad when you look up at the huge wall of tea and see the contents of your pantry! I decided to try this one as my mom told me she tried it last week and loved it. I really love Indian food and the spices they use in their cooking so I figured this would be good. I also love that it is based on Ayurvedic medicine. The smell is really complex and is truthful to the complex taste of this tea. The depth of flavour really allows each of the spices to come through individually and finish together. I had this tea before a heavy lunch and was pleased that I had no digestive issues (so I guess the tea worked!) overall, I think this was a nice cup of tea. It was really different from any of the teas I normally gravitate towards so I can’t see myself stocking up but I would definitely have this tea again…especially before a big meal! As I am using my phone and can’t rate I will just mention here that I am giving this tea an 80.
This was the 2nd tea I purchased for my mom for her birthday. I know she loves peppermint and this tea definitely delivers that! The smell of peppermint seeps out of the bag even when it is sealed…it is so strong! When steeped, it definitely mellows out and the taste is not overpowering either. To me, this tea was really nothing special, just your average peppermint tea! I’m not the biggest fan of peppermint but I’ve had bagged teas just from the grocery store which were equally as good. For that reason I can’t say I would definitely spend the extra money on this again but it was a nice tea. For the taste (and quality of the peppermint) I would give this tea a 75.
I stopped by a David’s Tea the other day to pick up a couple of teas for my mom for her birthday. This one appealed to me as it is caffeine free, intended for “glowing” skin and smells like apple pie…all things I knew she would love (she really loved this tea as well as the other one I bought her which was peppermint amour)! Naturally, we both had to try it! When hot, it smells like a warm apple pie or even a hot cup of cider. I was worried that the cinnamon would be too overpowering but it really wasn’t at all. In fact, all of the flavours were quite mild and this resulted in a nice cup of tea. The only complaint I have is that this tea may even be too mild. I would even add cinnamon sticks to this (like with apple cider) to increase the flavour. I can see myself drinking this a lot during the fall as a healthier alternative to apple pies and ciders; the fact that this is supposed to help in the health of hair/skin and to quench thirst is simply a bonus! As I am again using my phone, I can’t rate this tea but would give it an 85.
I’ve been feeling a little under the weather for about a week now and a friend of mine recommended that I try this tea. I had a cup of cold 911 yesterday and found that it really cleared my sinuses but didn’t do anything to relieve my other symptoms. The woman at the store even said that she finds it helpful for the nausea that comes along with the flu. As far as smell, i found it to be very similar to detox but for the taste, I found it to have much stronger citrus notes. I really liked how the flavours are balanced and are not competing; after all the last thing you want when you are sick is something really strong! It definitely lived up to its promise as a cold remedy but I can’t see myself reaching for it for the taste alone. As I am using my phone and can’t rate, I will just mention here that I am giving this tea an 80 (taking into consideration both, what it is meant for, and the taste).
I am not a fan of pu’erh teas and can say that this tea did nothing to change that. I had this iced as an in store sample today and was hoping that the ice would dilute the fishy taste of pu’erh…it did dilute the fishy taste to some degree however, it did leave a nasty, oily film on the roof of my mouth. I also found that the berry taste was rather artificial and similar to those chalky berry candies. I will definitely not buy this! I can’t rate this tea on my phone but I am giving it a 25.
I tried this as a cup to go today. When I smelled it, it was very light and even sweet however, it takes on a completely different profile when steeped. I found the taste to be very bitter and I did detect a slight tobacco taste. I had this tea black as I wanted to really taste it on its own (and I don’t consume dairy) but I do see how it would also taste great with milk and sugar. I don’t think that I will be buying any of this tea but I would definitely drink it again. I am not able to rate this on my phone but I would give it an 80.
I picked up about 15g of this the other day when I went in (and I got Superberry in a to-go cup). This one has been recommended to me on several occasions and I finally gave it a try. This is similar to both superberry and prairie berry however I do find it to be very tart. I think this one would also be very good iced for the summer!
I forgot to mention that to me, it is very similar to mango madness so if that was something that you enjoyed you will probably enjoy this one too! :)
I had this one today too. I do like it a lot. I think I know what you mean about the aftertaste, but i cannot put my finger on what it is. I restock this one though, because it is refreshing. Try cold brewing to see if the aftertaste subsides some. I think it has for me. I do like this one a lot.
I had this one iced and will try it warm too. I’ve now had it iced twice and both times there is an aftertaste. The aftertaste almost coats your mouth and I agree, definitely can’t put my finger on the ingredient.
I had this one warm today for the first time and I found that there was definitely an improvement with the aftertaste. I really enjoyed it warm and found that it was still really hydrating!
