448 Tasting Notes
Another adventure with my gaiwan! Dry, this actually reminded me of the chocolate milk in tiny cartons that would come with school lunches. After the first steep, however, it smells more like tortilla chips to me. The second steep smells peppery. It tastes a lot like unsweetened chocolate.
My first successful experience with using my gaiwan! I still have a lot to learn, and I can’t yet pick up on the little, subtle flavors and changes, but I’m learning. The first steep of this was very weak, I’m guessing I didn’t let it go for long enough. The second, however, turned out really well! It was very creamy and floral. The third was a bit too long, and ended up bitter. The fourth was floral, though weaker. Overall, I really enjoyed this tea, and I know I still have a lot to learn
First to review this tea! I don’t know if I can handle the pressure! I decided to try this as my iced tea after getting back from errands and the doctor.
It’s a very nice tasting oolong, light and floral. However, I’m not getting much coconut. When I was at Zhi Tea, I was torn between getting an iced cup of this or Coconut Assam. The girl working there told me that she liked the assam more, because the coconut flavor was more pronounced. So I was expecting this to have a lighter flavor, but I’m having trouble finding the coconut! I’m not sure if I would guess this was coconut without knowing. The coconut seems to add a smooth creaminess instead of actually flavoring very much. I do like how this tea tastes, I was just looking for a bit MORE on the coconut part. I will try this hot, and cold-brewed and see how those go, but for now I’m a bit disappointed.
I’ve had this for a while, and I’ve had it before, so I’m not sure why it isn’t logged yet. This definitely smells like a Christmasy blend to me. Spice blends always make me think of the holidays. Unfortunately, this doesn’t taste quite like it smells. I’m not really picking up much cinnamon in the flavor. I can get the orange flavor, but mostly this is just a bit bitter and there isn’t really anything that particularly stands out or is very nice about it. If it tasted more like it smells, I think I would enjoy it more. Would adding my own cinnamon help?
Preparation
Drank this again as an iced tea. I still really can’t get into unflavored white teas much, I think I’ve burnt my taste buds out with black tea. However, this is one that I really do enjoy iced. I think the flavor that I consider “too light” when hot, instead becomes light and refreshing when iced. Generally when I’m drinking iced tea, its because I need something cool and refreshing, especially with this Texas heat. So this is doing the job quite well! I generally drink sweet or fruity tea iced, so this is a bit of a change, but I do enjoy it. I think I enjoy having a break from all the intense flavorings and have something that is gentle in flavor, but still tasty and a refreshing iced tea!
Preparation
I’m drinking a nice iced cup of this for the evening. I’m always scared with black and green tea mixes. However, this seemed to survive well enough. I don’t taste any horrible burnt green tea flavors. I’m mostly getting a nice sweet fruity flavor. It tastes tropical, but I can’t pick out specific flavors. The tea flavor is more in the background here
I’m not experienced at all with unflavored white teas. Hot, this is still a bit weak for me. I can tell it has a nice flavor, but I’m used to black teas. I need to drink more white teas and get a taste for them. However, I made this iced and I really enjoy it!
Preparation
Drinking this iced today! It has a nice, sweet fruity flavor. A very good iced tea! And of course, the color. Everyone’s commented on it, and its hard not to say something! It seems normal at first, then BAM. Your cup is full of this crazy murky green colored liquid. Luckily, it tastes nothing like it looks.
Preparation
Stopped by the Domain location of the Steeping Room while out to lunch with my boyfriend. It was really busy, like always. I just grabbed an iced cup to go. I was torn between Peach Black and Coconut Green, and the boyfriend, not a fan of coconut, told me to go with the peach. It didn’t say “Georgetown Peach”, but I’m guessing it was the same. I liked it but not as much as I remember liking it before. It tasted almost generically fruity, not as distinctively peachy.
