Backlogging from last night.

I picked up a handful of teas from Teavana yesterday, and this was one I’ve kinda had my eye on for a while, I figured I’d get it since I tend to have issues sleeping most nights and I don’t currently have any other chamomile teas.

So yeah, last night, I was just beat…. I spent most of the day running around places, spent a couple hours at a park throwing a baseball around with a friend just trying to get ourselves ready for summer softball leagues… So I thought this would be a great tea to end the night with to help me get to bed.

The tea itself has a nice smell to it. There is a sweet citrus-y aroma to it either form the orange blossoms or the citrus peels. There are small undertones of lemongrass scents in this as well. I can’t really smell the chamomile all too well though. Once steeped this tea has pretty much the same scents as it does unsteeped.

I typically don’t mind the tartness of hibiscus or rosehips, even when they are in a tea together, I sometimes even enjoy the tartness of the two. But since I was looking for a nice soothing tea to go to bed with, I wasn’t really wanting a tartness to the tea, so I was almost afraid of trying this one.

But MAN, this tea was actually really good and wasn’t tart at all! It definitely does have a very soothing quality to the tea, I could definitely taste the chamomile a lot better than I could when it came to the smell of it. I was able to taste almost every ingredient in this, except for the hibiscus and rosehips, which is pretty interesting.

Needless to say, I passed out shortly after having this tea. I don’t know if it was because of the relaxing qualities of this tea and the chamomile, if it was because I was already feeling dead tired from being out and about for the day, or a combination of the two. But this tea definitely hit the spot right before bed. Definitely a good nighttime tea choice.

Oh kudos for the timely review! I just received this myself (a day or so ago) while on a quest for non-caffeinated teas for night time. Good review – now looking forward to having some tonight!

Sounds delicious! And I love the name of it too :)

I love Sleepy Time tea, so when I saw this in Teavana, I thought I had found the loose leaf sister to my beloved tea. The ingredients appear to be the same but in a slightly different order. I made a big mistake with the above assumption. That will teach me…

The first thing I notice is tart, tart, tart. Then the citrus rears up and smacks me around a bit. I totally missed out on the mint I was expecting. I think my face actually puckered on this one.

they really need to cut back on their hibiscus usage

Missy

That is the tart! Perhaps I’ll stay away from hibiscus in the future. Thanks. :D

Many people have a disliking with hibiscus and when you start looking at flavoured tea’s you realise that it’s a very popular ingredient amongst them. I wonder why this is?

Missy

Well tart wouldn’t be so bad if it wasn’t the prominent flavor. Lemonade is a bit tart and that is part of why I like it. In lemonade I don’t have to muscle past the tart to get to the other flavors though. Some times I think they use ingredients for the color they add to the tea.

My mom made a HUGE tea purchase at Teavana and made some of this for me. It’s a nice cup. It reminds me of sleepytime tea but with a nice twist of citrus. I actually really like this.

What a terrible time for NJ. Hurricane Sandy devestated the lives of so many people around me. Luckily me and my family are fine, but so many lost so much. Work has been non-stop with no power. A fun sidenote in nursing is that in an emergency if no one shows up, you don’t get to leave. The last 3 or 4 days have been literally nonstop working making sure my patients survive this storm. Needless to say, its been a little stressful and I turned to tea to help me relax and sleep in the middle of chaos. I can’t tell you if it’s sure exhaustion or if this tea actually helped, but I slept like a rock. I didn’t move for the 4 or 5 hours that I got.

It tastes a bit like sleepytime tea, with a hint of citrus which I feel definitely improves the tea. Verrrry strong taste of chamomille, which I like. If you don’t though this tea will overwhelm you. I was suprised to like this because I think Celestial Seasonings Sleepytime tea tastes like someone’s dirty foot :). I was just glad to have a little bit of sanity through the aftermath of Sandy…

We are with you! I know that you must be so exhausted and will be for some time! I’m glad that tea was able to help you sleep!

Thanks! I def am tired but many are much worse off. NJ is losing their minds. Some guy just punched a cop in the face over gas. Its sad to see my state in this mode. Glad it wasnt worse like Hurricane Katrina. Thanks for the concern…

First I’m upping the rating as I finally have a perfect temp kettle. So all my tea tastes a whole lot better. I notice less of a tart flavor coming through this time around. I just get a very soothing cup of tea to help me relax and get ready for bed.

Not a fan of this tea, I’m bummed I bought like 4 oz of it. I like a calming chamomile, mint, lavendar type of tea before bed and the sales associates at Teavana said this is the ultimate relaxing tea. I find it to have a VERY light flavor, I barely even taste it. I cannot tell from drinking it what herbs are in it.

I absolutely adore Moonbeams and Lavendar from Vermont Liberty Tea Company and I feel that Tranquil Dream is the Teavana equivalent. I would not recommend this tea unless you prefer little flavor before bed. For instance if you want something warm but having too much flavor in your palate before bed isn’t good for you.

If you’re looking for a LIGHTLY flavored bedtime tea, or you love Sleepy Time, I’m more than willing to swap.

I normally avoid tart teas (or anything with hibiscus as the third or fourth ingredient) but I was looking for a nice nighttime tea and found this one. It’s decent! The hibiscus is very subtle and more floral than tart which I appreciate. Night Night is calming and mellow, a great finish to a stressful day.

So I spent around $60 ordering tea off the internet last week. Then I took a visit to Teavana because I wanted some more Blueberry Bliss and Peach Tranquility just to hold me over until all my new teas arrived from DavidsTea and Amazon (I am hooked on Celestial Seasonings’ Sugar Cookie Sleigh ride and they’re finally selling it at a reasonable price again!). I ended up also trying out this, and Caramel Almond Amaretti, which is their new seasonal tea.

I’ve always been sensitive to caffeine, but lately it’s been even worse. Monday night I drank two glasses of iced green tea, and literally couldn’t even go to my night class I got so sick! So for a while I’m totally staying away from any tea that’s not herbal, rooibos, or white…

This tea is really nothing special. I used a tablespoon for around 8 ounces of tea. That’s double what’s recommended. I steeped w/boiling water for 6 minutes, and it’s still pretty darn weak. The aroma is great, but I’m not even getting any of that tartness everyone is talking about? Honestly, it reminds me of some cheap bagged tea. Next time I will try brewing it for a longer time. Maybe 12-ish minutes? I’ll also try using a bit more tea.

I can’t even really describe any of the flavors it’s so weak. There’s nothing bad about it, but nothing really good either.

I just wish Teavana would be honest about the number of teaspoons required to make a cup. I don’t care if I’m only gonna get 10 cups out of 2 oz. of tea instead of 30, but just tell me that on the directions so I know how to make it right the first time! It would actually encourage people to buy more of the expensive straight teas if they realized they were actually an equivalent, or even better, deal. I may spend $15 to get a good green tea there, but I only need to use 1 teaspoon to make a cup, and I can usually resteep at least once! In my opinion herbals need to be made a bit stronger because they don’t have any tea or rooibos as a base, so light/delicate just equals boring! haha So they just need to be upfront about that. :)

I don’t necessarily regret this buy, because made stronger it will probably be decent. I also might try blending it with something else. If nothing else it will be fun to experiment with. I will try to do another tasting note if this turns out any better next time!

I am new to loose leaf tea. I really love Sleepy Time tea, so when I saw this at Teavana I thought it may be my loose leaf Sleepy Time tea replacement. Upon opening the bag I noticed the citrus smell was quite a bit stronger than what I was expecting. I decided to brew it up any way. I was disappointed that this tea does not even come close to Sleepy Time tea. The chamomile and mint were not strong enough to compete with the citrus flavors. I will not buy this tea again.

This is my favorite that’s in my cupboard right now. It’s so soothing and the scent is also. The chamomile, mint, and hibiscus blend is simply a good brew.
