Origin: Yunnan, China
Flavor Profile: Very balanced, smooth, rich and dark, with a slightly sweet, wildflower honey finish. Deep, strong forward notes of earth and moss with a lingering raisin sugar sweetness.
Tea Story: Pure Pu-erh Ecstasy
This tender, young-leaf pu-erh is so good that it was traditionally used as part of the wedding dowry of the young women who picked it.
Unlike many of our other pu-erhs from Jingmai Mountain, this is vintage loose leaf.
You just can not go wrong when steeping up a bit of this tea in a yixing clay pot. Done right, it is delicious.
Like any good, ripe pu-erh, you won’t need to worry about over-steeping this tea: you can steep the leaves for an hour without yielding any sign of bitterness. Very forgiving.

Food Pairing: Pair Maiden’s Ecstasy with anything rich, oily, or buttery. Just as perfect with Dim Sum as it is with quiche. An ideal after meal tea: the deep flavor compliments dark or milk chocolate, ice-cream (it’s true!), a stroopwaffle, any flavor of cheese cake. You will feel its digestive powers making your happy belly all the more happy.

Ok, this is my first Pu-erh. This one seemed to have better reviews then others so I bought a sample of it. The leafs smell fishy. Not very strong but for tea, it just feels wrong to me. when brewed the smell is much the same. The color is very dark with a hint of red. If I drank this in front of others they would likely think I was drinking coffee.
For the taste, very weird. Honestly, I feel like if you removed all the saltiness from soy sauce it might taste similar. It’s not offensive. I had been afraid it would be. On first taste though, this isn’t something I’d buy.
So, this one might be good with a dinner next to a beach. I could see myself growing to like it. I’ll probably give it another try at some point in the future but right now, it’s too intense and mature a taste for me.
This is my first Pu-erh tea, but I believe like others have said its not a bad place to start. After brewing, the aroma was earthy and reminded me of the smokiness of a Lapsang souchong, but not as heavy. I am currently on my third brewing at there is no bitterness. The flavors have become more subtle with each brewing, but overall the flavor is quite pleasant. A whole new world of teas has been discovered. Looking forward to more Pu-erh teas in the future. I started the first brewing at 3 minutes and have added a minute with each brewing.
Just tried this tea for the first time!
I have to say that I was extremely excited to get this tea, as I’ve heard great things about it from many people!
The smell of the dry leaves was kind of sweet and earthy, just as I’d heard, however whenever I rinsed the tea and made the first steep (5 min), the smell was kind of off putting and surprising to me. This being my first pu-erh, I wasn’t sure whether or not it was normal, so I just went with it.
The taste to me was…odd.
I’m not going to say it was bad, because my palette is still developing for tea, and I know I have a lot to learn. I didn’t taste the sweetness in any of the three steeps that I made, just a very earthy, dirt like taste.
Having finally tried Maiden’s Ecstasy, it wasn’t quite what I expected, but I’m going to keep drinking it and hope that I start to acquire the taste.
As a final note, I’d say: Give this tea a try, but don’t be surprised by the unique flavor.
My first experience in Pu-erh, and definitely not a bad choice for a beginners Pu-ehr.
This tea is great for it’s modest level of complexity. Change steep times by 30 seconds, and find entirely new flavors.
The downside to this tea is that it IS a beginners tea, and as such lacks some of the maturity of other aged Pu-erhs, but still a great introductory Pu-erh.
I find that this tea brings me to a plateau, so it’s a great “long day working” tea.
This one did not have the typical “fishy” smell before brewing, so I thought it might be better than my last Pu-Erh. Once brewed, the familiar smell returned, all though it was not nearly as overpowering. The flavor was good, very smooth and mellow. No sweetness, no bitterness, just a slight earthy tone. Overall a good tea, and the best pu-erh I’ve had, but it still has the smell.

Melissa, if you’re looking for different parameters in hopes of liking it more you may want to try 1g/1oz of boiling (or just below boiling if you want to preserve health benefits), steep for 10-20 seconds and disgard- this is your rinse, then continue steeping for 20 second infusions (you can start drinking after the rinse) til you find the flavor too weak for your taste, then increase by 10 sec. I hope this helps!=D
Thanks! I didn’t have any more to try from the beginning but I did another steep at 20 seconds. It still feels a bit heavy for me although I can see myself liking it a little more. It’s definitely worth trying again at some point in the future. I have a sample of Golden Moon too that I’ll try at some point. I’ll certainly do shorter steeps for this in the future though.
