From Murchie's Tea & Coffee

A nostalgic favourite for decades: rich black teas with distinctive orange and baking spices.

The rich base of Ceylon and Keemun black teas is warmed by cinnamon and piquant cloves, with the distinctive citrus of fresh oranges. This fragrant blend will transport you back to Grandma’s kitchen, where baking was a year-round, everyday occurrence, and sweet, spiced treats were always available.

A Murchie’s favourite for over 30 years!

Ingredients: black tea (Ceylon, Keemun), orange peel, clove, natural and artificial flavouring

Sipdown! (8 | 127)

Not entirely sure why I picked this one up, since generally I’m not a big fan of clove. I do love orange though, so I must’ve been tempted by the bright orange cover, which features the fruit so prominently. :P

Sipped through this almost entirely with oat milk and raw sugar, and it’s very tasty that way. The orange still shines through, with a zesty essential oil sort of flavor to it. Spices are present but not overpowering. Seems like a nice enough example of an orange spice tea, but not being a clove person, that’s not really a category I tend to reach for. I really need to find some nice, sweet & tangy orange teas without the spice!

Fete de Versailles by Nina’s Paris is one of my favorite orange teas. It has a white tea base, though, and you may be looking for black.

Any base is fine by be, as long as it’s not a fruit tea ha ha. I did remember that I have Orange & Ginger from Lupicia too, and that one is nice.

I believe this might finally be the last sample I saved from the previous tea box. The flavor reminds me of the orange black tea I used to drink when I was a kid. I definitely overleafed this brew since I wanted to use up all the leaf I had saved, which somewhat detracts from the flavor. I don’t sense any spices, but also this tea tastes somewhat old, so maybe the spices were there originally. The black tea is a little brisk. So yeah, I’d prefer other versions of this tea over this version.

Another sipdown. Thank you to Matcha Manic for the sample.

The black tea was ok, but nothing special. A tad too sharp for me (tannic, brisk). The cinnamon/cloves and lemon/orange zest are a traditional combo that works well together. I wouldn’t have this again, though, because I’ve seen it executed better elsewhere. The orange zest was ok, definitely gave a dried fruit vibe. I also got some dried fruit that reminded me more of dried cranberry and dried fig. It wasn’t a bad cup, but I prefer constant comment for an orange and clove black tea.
