Africa’s most elegant tea. The big leaves are loaded with golden tip and are reminiscent of fine Assams. The tea is light in body and is a mellow brew.
H&S Review:
Milima is Swahili for “In a high place”. The tea plants that produce this tea grow at more than six thousand feet above sea level in the Kenyan Highlands. The leaves take on lovely flavors in the cool air and rocky soil. Unlike most teas in Africa, Milima is produced in the Orthodox method, so the leaves look like most of our other teas. Milima has led the revolution in Africa of making tea in the Orthodox method. We now offer a few choices of African teas, unlike five years ago.

This tea definitely reminds me of a chai with it’s clove notes and sweet flavor. I definitely did not enjoy this tea alone, this just needs milk and sugar (and lots of it) though it honestly feels like a good breakfast tea or an afternoon pick-me-up. I would recommend trying different temperatures as well as different brewing times for this tea. At first following the directions made my tea taste terribly bitter and I had to try again with less time and less heat.

So I over-steeped this a wee bit today.
I’ve had this sample for a while now and I’m finally getting around to trying it. Figure I needed black tea in my system. Only got like two hours of sleep over all today and I’m feeling really stressed with having to move like everything in my room over to my gparents’ room so my dad’s worker can update my bathroom. Which I’m not super happy about for a few different reasons. :/
And valid ones at that!
The guy just came over and basically said this is gonna take a lot longer than a couple days, so not thrilled over that either. Oy. This isn’t my day.
On the bright side, other than this having that weird inky taste from over-steeping, it’s pretty malty. Which I love! Has a touch of bready notes which I also like. Definitely going to be trying this one again. I have a feeling that when I steep it right it will be an amazing black tea! :D

Tea #6 from the (Mostly) Unflavored TTB
So because I had this a few days ago and Steepster was totally down, I didn’t manage to get a review written up. And I was too tired/it was too late for me to think about how I should just write it down somewhere instead.
Mostly what I remember from this was that it was kinda fruity and a bit malty I think. It was good, I drank the entire cup, but I don’t remember it being a tea that I have a burning need to own for future drinkings. Lol.
From the Unflavored TTB. Decent nose. Smooth, round taste is very full. Good finish has a hint of bitterness. This is a nice tea, but doesn’t have any features that really stand out as interesting, other than a bare hint of fruit.
Continuing with the tribute to Mr. Harney (a great idea from mj1851!) I decided this would be perfect with my late lunch. I made a Kenyan dish called Sukuma Wiki (braised collard greens and ground beef). I’m not sure the flavors in the food and the tea pair perfectly, but I like that they’re both from Kenya. :)
The tea is fruity with a tobacco flavor at the finish. As the tea cools there is a bit of a woody flavor – maybe some leather – and a bit of astringency. I like this one a lot. I can see the comparison to Assams, but this is unique enough that I can see myself buying a tin of it and enjoying it as an afternoon tea.

Never tried collard greens—do they taste spinachy or cabbagey?
They’re a bitter green, so more like kale.
OK, that does it…I need to expand my leafy green horizons! (I am a very late bloomer when it comes to eating vegetables.)
Kale is awesome. I think it’s one of my favorite veggies, and I tend to put it in everything during the winter months (just ask my kids :)) I like the Sukuma Wiki with collard greens because the meat is highly seasoned, and i think the greens help balance out the spice.
