From Golden Moon Tea

“There’s mystery to the art of finding and freeing the floral aroma and rich flavor of a pouchong tea. But the reasons Golden Moon’s Coconut Pouchong is noticeably better than others are pretty simple.

Real coconut makes this South Pacific treat buttery, smooth, and sweet.

It’s the unusually long, elegant leaves of this South Pacific delicacy that give the tea its light, slightly floral, and calming taste. As for that hint of tropical sweetness? We’ve got the nectar of young coconuts to thank.

Our Pouchong is grown in the Fujian Province, just outside of the Wuyi Mountains. The farm is located on sunbaked land that is mostly mountainous and is traditionally described to be "Eight parts mountain, one part water, and one part farmland.” That’s how we get a tea leaf with smooth floral notes, a light body, and a sweet finish.
Coconut Pouchong uses only real extract. In order to extract the coconut naturally, we start with real coconuts and roast, shred, and steep them for over one week. We then strain the coconut pieces leaving only pure coconut extract that is both smooth and buttery.

1) Bring fresh, filtered water to 180°F
2) Pour over your tea leaves in a teapot (1 spoonful of tea per serving)
3) Steep 3 minutes
4) Stir, strain, and enjoy!

This is one of my favorite teas (I have about 25 different teas at any one time in my collection) When I order it – I usually get 1/2lb. bag. I prefer to steep it in my cup with 16 oz. filtered water using approx. 2Tbsp. of tea with water temp 190F. for 3 min. I like to add about 1 to 1 1/2 tsp. of 1% or 2% milk and sweetener. I find it fantastic. Truly tastes like fresh coconut with NO artificial taste. I have let the cup go cold and placed it in the frig. if I didn’t have time to finish it and it was equally good when cold. I love Golden Moon Teas!!

Smells strongly of sweet, milky coconut but the tea’s taste is pleasantly subtler. The coconut only enhances the oolong’s naturally round mouth feel.

I tried this because I love Pouchongs, and I have a fondness for well-flavoured teas. The reviews on this tea were good and so I took a chance. It is a nice quality tea, and the coconut is not out of proportion to the tea, but I liked it less than I thought I would. I think I will enjoy it occasionally, but it would not be more than a single cup.

I at last received my Golden Moon Teas Sampler :D

The leaves themselves had a very nice coconut smell, although I was a bit concerned that this tea would be overpoweringly coconut flavor. This wasn’t the case. This tea infused up a nice light green color with a nice buttery sent with light undertones of coconut. The taste was light and crisp. The buttery taste of the Pouchong complements the light tones of coconut almost perfectly. It isn’t overwhelmingly coconut at all. I really enjoyed this tea and will be ordering more next time.

Just breaking open my sampler of 50 teas from Golden Moon, and this one literally jumped out at me. Opening it up was heaven – warm, toasty coconut smell, with a little bit of something resembling marzipan. Infusing it was interesting! The intense smell of the coconut dissipated a little, and the ‘greeniness’ of the leaves started to creep in, in a nondescript, mellow kind of way. I let it steep for 3 minutes, I think next time I’d pull it out at 2 instead. The first taste that I get is definitely the green, but it blossoms out into that same warm, toasty coconut smell that I first experienced. Definitely not screamingly sweet, but delicately so. There’s a faint tang of bitterness, but I think that’s my fault for leaving it in a minute more than I had intended.

Sweetening this after tasting it first has a really interesting effect on the tea. Sweetness brings the toasty coconut to your palate first, which then washes into the green, and then back to the coconut it goes (killing a bit of the bitter tang that I had accidentally created, by the way). Definitely a solid tea, one I’d certainly try again! Much prefer this to Zhena’s Coconut Chai, but that’s a whole different animal, so I don’t think it’s necessarily fair to compare. Have to see what a second infusion might do to this!

Rave reviews. I am always leery of flavored teas, but this is excellent! Great balance, no chemical off taste, even a whiff Jasmine to add to the pleasure!

I loved Coconut Pouchong by Golden Moon Tea! The coconut was awesome! Not overpowering or barely discernable, but just right. Additionally, the tea was nice and sweet requiring no sweetener. For a more detailed review: http://teaescapade.wordpress.com/2008/05/08/coconut-pouchong/

I don’t know what I expected and I am not sure if I like it or not.
In my opinion it tastes like how it smells inside a Crazy Shirts store, or some of the shirts that have the special dyes (specifically the kona coffee ones). Not a bad thing! Just strange.

As I continue trying to reduce caffeine intake – or at least the “catch and release” effect of coffee – I steeped a couple of cups of this tasty Oolong today. My first impression is that Golden Moon’s Coconut Pouchong is very nice. The coconut is evident, but not overwhelming.

On further reflection, I’m reminded I’m not really a “flavored” kind of guy. I like tea for tea, coffee as coffee, and Ritz as crackers. I’ll finish this small pouch, but not right away.

Golden Moon stuff is always really good quantity and very understated.

Strong coconut aroma, that is the primary smell of the tea. I really don’t taste or smell the tea, although the liquor resembles an oolong tea, the taste is overpowered by the coconut. Coconut is a great flavor so it isn’t really a problem, but I wish the flavor of the tea was stronger. I think hot is good, but I bet cold is even better, that is next.
