#tiffanys2021sipdown Tea #228 overall / Tea #8 for June
Monday 6/7 — Dessert by Deb Rhubarb Sugar Pie, started 6/4 finished the last cup 6/7 at work. One of my first “teas” was David’s Tea Strawberry Rhubarb Parfait, and strawberry rhubarb is one of my favorite pies! Ever since I’ve always been on the hunt for rhubarb tea. Unfortunately, the sweet apple (colored with hibiscus powder) did not translate this tea (black/rooibos combo) made as a cold brew pitcher into a particularly delicious tea. It was fine but not something I’d have again (if I have more, I’ll just put it in my swap box).

Sipdown! (5 | 78)

So this one just never worked for me…

The apple and hibiscus pretty much take over the cup and it’s just a bit tart and one-note. This last cup has a bit more maple and/or sugar to it which helps a little, but mostly it just tastes like a very acidic apple tisane.

Certainly not my favorite from Deb!

I felt the same!

Silent Kettle

Ou! I never got to try this one and I believe it has been discontinued! :( But I am not sure I would have liked it since I only like hibiscus if it is used sparingly like in Deb’s ginger berry crisp tea.

i had this earlier and thought i liked it…then had it again yesterday and realised i don’t lol. It reminds me of boring old red rose tea with lemon added to it. there’s a weird tang to it but it’s not rhubarb.

OMGsrsly

So fickle. ;)

Cameron B.

I had some of this one today and I agree, it’s disappointing. I mostly just got a tart apply tea with some rooibos.

DIY Advent Calendar – Day 20

I don’t like this one. At all. I’m sorry Deb but this was a huge miss for me. It was too sweet but also oddly tart and then somehow flat. I don’t know exactly where this goes wrong for me but its wrong. Into the swap box…

Silent Kettle

Aw! Sorry you didn’t like this one! I love Deb’s teas, and I have been shopping there frequently! :) Do you have any top Dessert by Deb tea recommendations off the top of your head? I noticed you reviewed quite a few of her teas! Thank you!

Silent Kettle

I’ll request this as a sample next time since I think I might actually like this one since I love overly sweet, dessert teas lol!

VariaTEA

No worries. Not every tea can be a winner – if they were, my wallet would be even more sad than it is now. Haha!

Off the top of my head, I really like Mint Chip Cookie as an iced latte and Coconut Cream Pie Chai as a latte. Ginger Creme Brulee was also very good as a plain hot tea.

If you want, you can shoot me a DM with your address and I can send the rest of my package your way. I won’t enjoy it so I am happy to send it along to someone else who may :)

Silent Kettle

That is very true! :)

And ou! I really enjoyed the mint chip cookie; however, I have not tried it as an iced latte! That sounds interesting! I will definitely give that a go.

And I need to order coconut cream pie chai next time! I love spicy, sweet combos! So, I think I would also enjoy this one!

And that is so incredibly kind of you, and I greatly appreciate it! :‘D But I think I will just request it as a sample next time, since my order will be above $50 (I need to stock up on Fireside S’more, lol!) <3 But thank you! :) !!!

VariaTEA

The Fireside S’mores is sold out :(

Silent Kettle

Aw! I believe she put everything out of stock until she comes back from her vacation. I hope you get to try it next year! :) My favourite blends so far are spiced earl grey muffin, lemongrass milk pudding, fireside s’more, and earl’s sugar cookie! So good! <3

VariaTEA

I had some this year and it was nice. I don’t love bergamot teas so I am avoiding the Earl Greys…though I own them haha

R is for… Rhubarb Sugar Pie!

Sipdown (1399)!

I tried to avoid having too many raspberry teas for “R Day” or other flavour profiles that I just had tons of so that I could instead focus on the blends that I otherwise might ignore – but I wanted to get in at least one thing with rhubarb (even though, technically, there’s not any rhubarb in this tea).

I still wish this tea had more body and sweetness, but a sticky and heavier kind of sweetness and not the sort of bright top note sweetness I find present in this cup. Like, molasses or maple – something that will stick to the palate and offset the really high note, tangy qualities of the apple/rhubarb and hibiscus. It’s pretty delicious as is, but it needs balance – a hint of cinnamon and a lively fruit note isn’t enough to perfectly sell the flavour profile…
