The “fake apple candy” flavor came out way too much. I couldn’t even finish a cup.

DAVID’s TEA Advent Calendar Day 6:

Um. Maybe I didn’t brew it long enough or use enough tea. This one was like warmed up water to me with a faint tangy flavor. It was very light in color. I will try it again and rate it then.

So far I haven’t had any clear winners with the advent calendar. There have been some pleasant teas, but no Wow, knock my socks off teas. Of course, we still have 18 days to go!

This was my first big meh from the calendar. I loved coffee cake.

I also leafed the pot quite heavily, I must say. Mine was very apple-y indeed.

I wasn’t thrilled with Coffee Cake. However, I will try it again. Sometimes it take a couple of tries to get it right.

Advent calendar day 6. For the first time this year with the advent calendar, I can say that I actually really liked this tea. It smells sweet and like apples. I’ve never tasted apple cider in my life (that I can remember) because I am allergic to caramel so I can’t say whether or not it tastes like apple cider. Either way, this tea is great. It has a light apple flavour and isn’t super sweet. I added some maple sugar sprinkles and that improved the flavour a lot. I would consider purchasing this tea as it is something I can see myself craving and wanting often.

Day 6/24 of the David’s Tea advent calendar.

I expected this one to be a lot like Honeycrisp Apple, and I was right in the sense that the apple flavour tastes the same. Unfortunately I find it a little too artificial and candy-like to be all that pleasant. This tea gains back some points in the after-taste, which reminds me of apple-crumble with whipping cream, however it’s not enough to make up for the tea itself.

I found this new version to be not as tasty as Sweet Apple Cider

Day 6 of the 2016 advent calendar! Supposedly this tea is supposed to be a remake of fall 2014’s Sweet Apple Cider? Regardless this tea smells quite good, although it’s more of a creamy candy kind of smell rather than what I might expect from an apple cider.

Steeped, the smell is definitely more in-line with apple cider with vanilla, although the apple flavor is a bit… artificial? Like an apple flavored candy. Without sweetener, it’s actually kind of tart which is a pleasant surprise, because I was expecting something more sweet and sugary. With sugar though it tastes a lot like an apple candy, which isn’t something I’m opposed to, just not something I expected.

Overall, I think this tea is alright. Not really feeling the artificial kind of apple vibe I get from it, but I’m sure it would make a good iced tea. Perhaps if it goes on sale I’ll pick up a small bag to play around with.

It doesn’t really taste like apple cider, but I think I like it. A sweet, creamy, very mild apple taste. It smells a bit little some sort of apple pastry (strudel maybe?) but that doesn’t really carry through to the taste unfortunately. The flavour almost reminds me of Apple Custard (wish they would bring that one back!) but weaker and chamomile-less.

I steeped it for probably 15+ minutes, with a full perfect spoonful of tea in a Nordic mug (16 oz), with freshly boiled water. So don’t think I can make it much stronger than this without using up a whole lot of tea!

Edit: hmm, I tried my bf’s cup and it has a bit more of a bite. Maybe he got more blackberry leaves or something?

Never. Again. I’m glad this was only a sample and it is now gone, so I don’t have to pass it off to any other unsuspecting sipper. This stuff is terrible. Why oh why would Davids think this is a good blend? Maybe I used the entire sample and shouldn’t have or steeping it for five minutes was a bad idea. But this is a tangy mess that tastes like something toxic. Blackberry leaves with apple and vanilla /cream? WHY? Why would there be cream in “apple cider”? Why blackberry leaves? I’m surprised it didn’t have a worse flavor from the blackberry leaves. Am I drinking paint? I have a horrified look on my face typing about this tea. I’m not amused.

This is a very sweet Apple tasting tea with a little dimension from the blackberry leaves. From the name I was expecting a spiced apple cider with maybe some cinnamon notes but as the ingredients suggest there is nothing. It is still a nice herbal tea, but tastes more like a sweet summer tea then the advertised winter classic. The liquor is pleasant light golden color. The dry leaves are very aromatic body and would suggest a more complex, layered flavor. The vanilla and cream off-tastes were not tasted after steeping.

Hot tea made in a tea press during the two days that my dad came to visit in Montreal during my staycation – the tea itself tasted really nice, but it was a stressful situation that I was drinking it in…

My Dad insisted on renting a car while he was here in the city, despite my advising him that it was probably smarter to take the metro during the time he was here because it’s faster and easier to navigate. He was stubborn and determined though and went with the car anyway. It was a terrible decision; my dad is already an aggressive and impatient driver and that’s back home in the PRAIRIES where it’s less busy streets and he has familiarity with the city. Here in Montreal!? Well fuck; between the poor street design, heavier traffic, all the construction creating TONS of weird detours, fact all the street signs are in French, and him not ever having been to the city before!? Well it took us AGES to get anywhere and he was getting incredibly worked up and frustrated about not knowing how to navigate the city. We had three activities planned the first day he visited and we only ended up getting to one of them – we spent like four hours stuck in traffic/lost and I got to listen to him for those four hours just screaming his head off, ranting about the bad city design/construction, and just letting out long strings of swear words. It was so frustrating; and I couldn’t help him out because I still barely know my own way around the city and I also don’t drive at all – I take the metro everywhere! Like we should have.

It was, hands down, the worst day I’ve had in the city since moving to Montreal.

But hell, at least I’d had the foresight to make tea to drink during the drive. That was the nicest part of the whole damn experience.

Friendly reminder that I do not numerically rate DAVIDsTEA blends as I’m currently employed there and it would be an obvious conflict of interest. Any blends you see with numerical ratings were rated prior to my employment there. These reviews are a reflection of my personal thoughts and feelings regarding the teas, and not the company’s.

Your dad sounds like my husband when he drives. I tell him he’s like Goofy in this Goofy Motor Mania video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kFHT1lw3vSI

Yup, that’s pretty accurate!

There is also the issue of the many, MANY one-way streets and no turning on reds and all sorts of unique to Mtl rules and lack of parking everywhere. A car is a liability in the city where you can get around super easily as a pedestrian. Plus, the metro is one of the better transit systems and you can get day/weekend passes. My sister used to drive up to the city when I lived there and with the exception of one restaurant that had valet parking, we would just leave the car parked at my place and walk/take public transit.

It tastes like a green apple Jolly Rancher candy. Super sweet, delicious and I’m going to buy more next time I’m in store.
