Organic North African Mint

My allergies have been acting up something awful lately, so I was rummaging around in my tea cupboard for something sinus-clearing. My usual lemon & ginger just wasn’t going to cut it, so I decided to finally crack open the Around the World set I got back in April. I never want to use up samples because then the tea will be gone! My cupboard is so full I really NEED some tea to be gone, but try telling that to my hoarding tendencies.

Anyway, this tea reminds me of Moroccan Mint and chai combined in glorious harmony. There’s the fresh blast of peppermint when you first sip: I was a bit worried that it would be JUST minty, but the spices come into the background soon after. The tea is kind of lost, so I view this as more of an herbal blend. You get a teeny bit of roasted hints from the green when it cools, but the strong spice & mint combo is definitely the star of the show.

This is a great tea for when you feel sick: the stomach-soothing qualities of mint with the nose-clearing power of chai. It’s definitely not an everyday tea though, and it’s only something I will reach for when I am in a very specific mood. It’s definitely worth keeping around in small quantities though because I feel like this is something I’ll have a very specific hankering for in the future (though I suppose it would be easy enough to blend something similar from my cupboard staples).

These days I’m rather leery of David’s. Haven’t been getting great service at the location near my campus, not impressed with the growing use of artificial flavours… what’s going on! Still, they have some teas that I really love, and North African Mint is one of them.

I can’t remember exactly when I first bought this, but I was browsing around for a new flavoured green blend and one of the staff in recommended this one. It’s scent in the bag is refreshing and minty (so, so much peppermint), with notes from the clove and fennel. In short: it smells delicious. Get in my teacup and get in my mouth.

The liquor is fairly dark (hojicha base, likely the peppermint as well) and smells rather bland, but the taste is much closer to its dry scent. The peppermint is fresh, and I’m not sure how much of the hojicha comes through, but it’s got some nice zings of ginger and fennel. It’s very smooth, and the licorice root isn’t present as a flavour, but rather in sweetness.

One of my favourite mint teas for sure. My bag is running low, so once the cupboard has depleted some (getting crowded in there!) I may just buy a can of this!

This is SO INTERESTING! Very cool to have a “wake-up” mint tea. 85 degrees is a pain in the ass, but ultimately worth it.

I find that this tea and Splash! are very similar. It tastes about the same when Splash! is minus the ginger. I like this one a little better.

Although I normally don’t go for teas with cardamom and fennel, this one is okay in my books. I wanted to finish up with this tea and thought it would be horrible, but to my surprise it’s not so bad at all. I find that this is one of those teas that you drink to make you feel better inside and it would detoxify you!

I dunno what it is, but I like this tea. Not enough to buy a tin though.

I gave this tea a try today, and I have to say I’m not a fan. Judging from the reviews I might have got a bit too much licorice in my cup!

I don’t mind licorice, but it sticks to the back of my throat in a strange way… anyways!

This tea wasn’t as minty as I was hoping, given the name. I looove mint tea with cream and spice teas with cream, so I gave it a try since this has both! It worked out pretty well, but again, a bit too licorice-y for what I was expecting.

I probably won’t go out of my way to try this one again. I’ve been having some bad tea luck lately o_o hopefully my tealish order will remedy that ^^

Thanks Stephanie for this! Mint, check. Fennel, check. Cloves, check. Cardamom, check. Licorice, check. Ginger, check. Black pepper, check and check! Everything melds together so well. Guess I will have to replace my Moroccan Mint staple with this.

exactly what i need right now.
basically i’m having tea for lunch cuz i had a big breakfast and i’ll have a big dinner.
brought a handful of davids ‘24 days of tea’ with me to try.
my very last box from them arrived last night. now i have the winter tree teapot and bubble mugs, as well as two gongfu teapots and bubble mugs. i’m ready for a tea party! as soon as my communal house finishes renovating our kitchen i’m gonna put all my tea and accessories in the cupboards and take pictures.

Surprise! Delicious balance of mint and warming spices. Refreshing. Makes me break into a light sweat, which would be great on a hot day for cooling off. I got a sample amount in a recent order from DavidsTea, and I may add this to my next order. I’ve drunk mint and mint greens before, but the sharpness and, well, playfulness of this blend is fun. I can’t taste the fennel, which is good. Love the cardamom.

I didn’t care for this tea on the first few sips, but as it cooled it became more complex. I love anise and the combination of that, the mint and other spices make for an interesting tea. The tea has a little sweetness on it’s own that lingers in the back of my mouth. At one point I was getting an almost plastic like aftertaste, but that has passed. It is a different twist on mint tea, but I’m still unsure of exactly how I feel about it.

I got a sample size of this (about two cups), and I just tried it. I like it! It has a very interesting taste, but I adore mint. I don’t think i’d drink it every day though.
