From DAVIDsTEA

If you’ve never tried a prickly pear, you may not associate the desert with refreshment. But once you get a taste of this luscious little cactus fruit, you just might change your tune. Traditionally used for candies, jellies and aguafresca, prickly pear is naturally sweet and totally refreshing. And in this exotic, fruity blend with green tea, lemongrass and pineapple, it makes for a deliciously fresh taste of the desert.

Ingredients: Pineapple, rose hips, green tea, strawberry leaf, lemongrass, lily flower, natural and artificial pear and prickly pear flavoring.

Price per 50g: $7.50

Mmm! I enjoy this! I bought this as a cold to go cup a week or two ago (I am getting behind in my reviews, so this one will be quite short!). It was quite tasty, although the flavor was very mild. I enjoyed it though, it was very refreshing. I love the lemongrass!

I did not stock up on this tea, but I wish I would have while it was here. This was my favorite from this collection by far. I should have bought more of this, instead of buying some Sunny Citrus. Maybe my local store still has some kicking around. I’ll have to check!

Le sigh. I’m disappointed to learn that this is a limited time tea. I quite like it! I find it nice in the afternoon, refreshing, a little sweet, fruity, and tart, but still tasting like tea rather than the “why don’t I just drink watered-down fruit juice instead” feeling I get from some fruity herbals.

I’m not sure if this was an odd scoop of leaf, because this seemed different tonight. Much sweeter than usual with more of a pineapple kick. Strong strawberry notes as well with a heavy pear aftertaste. Still good, but this tea usually gives me a more acidic vibe than I was getting tonight.

Picked this up tonight – 4 for $10. A light green tea with citrus notes and a sweet after taste. I think this would make a great infusion for the warmer weather.

I cold-brewed this sample from Ros overnight to take to work today. I feel like I should have doubled up on the tea, or used the whole sample to cold brew, because this tea was a little light for my preferences. I did like that I could distinctly taste the prickly pear, as well as a strong addition of pineapple and the bright lemony zing of the lemongrass.

I don’t usually think upon cactus very fondly (too many memories of stepping on/sitting on/having to pull out of pet fur), but I have always been a big fan of it’s fruit. Whenever I would visit my family in New Mexico, they would always have prickly pear jam in their pantry, as well as sweet tamales with said jam and shredded coconut. It was a specialty of one of my great Aunts’. I found the fruit in a Latino grocery store once and tried it fresh, there was not too much flavor to it. But when sugar is added, it transforms into a watermelon-ish/pineapple-ish/fresh and tasty thing that I would eat on toast.

I am glad to have tried this tea, it has been in my wishlist for some time now :P I like this blend for purpose of cold brew, so maybe I need to add this tea to my rotations!

This sounds lovely, might have to go on the wishlist! :)

The fruity and refreshing aroma of this blend initially drew me in and the sales associate reminded me that they don’t have a whole lot left, and they won’t be getting more, so I snapped up enough to make a cold brew with so I can make my decision as to whether I want to get more.

The main notes I am picking up on are pineapple and strawberry. I’m not really getting the lemongrass. Just a smidgen, and then there’s this cool, crisp note in the background. Perhaps it’s the prickly pear flavouring. It reminds me of cucumber in a way.

It’s good but I’m not sure if it’s worth clamouring for more before it’s gone.

I have mixed feelings about this tea..

It is most definitely not a strong tea.. i kinda had to focus to taste the flavours.. I’m really sad i got 100g of it (impulse purchase, as i love prickly pear). Unfortunately, the tea does not taste like prickly pear to me at all.. the only flavor that comes through is pineapple and artificialness. Will be definitely not re-stocking this tea.. and probably giving some away!

Do you still have the tea? I’d love to trade or buy it from you!

I bought a small sample of this when I went in to grab some greens. I probably overleafed a bit because I had just finished a cup of under leafed, watery “movie night” so I thought I’d be on the safe side with the leaf. Sadly, I can’t finish the cup. Tastes like dishwater to me.

This came with the new Sunshine Collection, which was severely over hyped. It’s a pretty good tea both iced and hot, but overall it’s very very weak. I really want to say “brew it for longer” but I don’t think anyone’s about burned green tea.

Cold Brew!

Had this one strained and ready to go yesterday, but I’m just getting around to drinking it now. Dry, I thought this smelled surprisingly intrigueing; definitely got the prickly pear smell and a very candied pineapple flavour.

There is a lot of stuff going on with this blend; I definitely taste the prickly pear. I recognize the distinct taste from the Prickly Pear tisane from Tea Desire that I like so much. To me, it tastes somewhat like a melon/kiwi crossbreed. It’s much less sour/tart in this blend than in the Tea Desire blend. I can also taste pineapple, though it’s certainly not the star of this blend, and it tastes rather candied, and also a little dulled down. The lemongrass comes through as well, but it’s a pleasant addition to the flavourings in this blend. It adds just a little “zip”. There’s also a muted grassy tone from the green base; it works well with the jumble of fruit in the blend. And now that I’m thinking about it, the grassy/light vegetal tone in this actually reminds me a little bit of bamboo!

Finally, I’m tasting something… Red? I want to say it’s maybe strawberry or raspberry though I know there’s nothing related to raspberries in the blend, and the only strawberry related thing is strawberry leaves. I don’t know what strawberry leaves taste like; are they anywhere similar to the fruit? I’m going to Google it…

Just looked it up; apparently the leaves do taste relatively like the fruit! So, I’m not crazy for thinking I’m tasting strawberry.

Overall I think this is nice – nicer than I expected anyway. But it’s not amazing, and the aspects of it that I enjoy are ones I can experience in some of the other blends I stock anyway. It’ll be interesting to try it hot; I have a feeling the profile of the tea is going to change quite a bit.
