From DAVIDsTEA

There’s a reason we love citrus so much – it’s bright, zesty and never fails to make us smile. And this refreshing, citrus-packed blend is no exception. With tart hibiscus, pretty flower petals, a hint of orange and cute flower-shaped sprinkles, it’s a delicious way to make your day shine with sweetness. Best of all, it steeps a beautiful vibrant crimson – like a little sunset right in your cup. You know what they say… red tea at night, sipper’s delight.

Ingredients: Apple, hibiscus, sprinkles (sugar, rice flour, peanut oil, potato starch, artificial flavouring, beetroot juice, riboflavin), currants, blackberry leaves, rosehip shells, orange peel, sunflower petals, safflower petals, mallow flower petals, natural flavouring

Price per 50g: $7.98

My first taste was not impressive, but it grew on me. I thought it was Magic Dragon, at first, a tea I have enormous quantities at home and that I’m not surprised by anymore. But then I started eating my pepperoni pizza and the vanilla taste in the tea (iced) dominated!! Which is actually awesome! So, majorly I taste vanilla, and a sort of bitter citrus taste. Yumm!

I picked up enough of this for a sample size at the local store. Probably about 30g.

I really liked the smell of this tea. It was quite fruity but it also smelled comforting (I don’t really know how to put this into scent form! haha). The first time I had it, it was enjoyable! very light and fruity. However, the second time I had it, it got really bitter really quick, and was not enjoyable. So I’m kind of confused about this tea. It was not bad, it just wasn’t great… maybe I left the teabag in too long.

I also tried freezing this tea into popsicle form! It turned out really well, but again they tasted a bit too bitter for my liking. Perhaps I just didn’t put enough care into my steeping processes.

I won’t be buying this again, but I would drink it again if somebody could make it for me. It was not my favorite, but I have had worse.

I picked up 10g of this today to see if there was any reason I needed it in addition to all of the Pink Flamingo I already have. Begrudgingly, yes. Yes I do. Sunny Citrus is like Pink Flamingo’s sultry bombshell of a cousin. It’s got all the same wonderful tart, sour citrus I love, with the added richness of vanilla to make it a little more complex and thick-tasting. As an added bonus, the aroma of the vanilla wafts about the cup, making the air around it smell divine!

I still think Pink Flamingo has my heart in this category, with a bit brighter and more sour flavour, but I do believe I should have both, because, as it is said, too much of a good thing is wonderful.

I gave this a long, cold steep overnight just to see what would happen. I was concerned that the hibiscus was going to become overpowering, but the flavours remained pleasantly balanced! In fact, the hibiscus remained pretty subtle and it was actually the vanilla notes that began to dominate. I don’t usually have iced teas that are heavy on vanilla, but this is a pleasant change.

I awarded this tea a rating of 50 – because I don’t yet know if I like it or not. I don’t generally like teas with hibiscus as a main ingredient. The smell of the tea is very lemony and has a hint of vanilla. I find the smell to be appealing, but a hint of something pungent exists and turns me off.

The tea is light and the lemon flavour is very present. I also taste something floral. I think I might enjoy this tea served iced rather than hot.

It reminds me of Neo Citran and I think that’s what turns me off.

Thanks so much to Vari Tea for sending a sample of this. Unfortunately as much as I’m learning to embrace fruit teas, this one is not for me.

VariaTEA

I’m sorry you weren’t a fan. I was trying to figure out what to send samples of but you didn’t have any likes/dislikes on your profile so I sent what I had available.

Debi

Oh please don’t worry about it! I loved the smell of it, but the flavour just didn’t turn out to be what I like.

VariaTEA

I find that a lot with fruit teas. Usually cold brewing works best but the smell is always off from the taste

Sipdown, and now in the 50s! Now I have yet another DAVIDsTEA tin empty. Those buy two get one free promotions really bulked up the amount of tins in my cupboard.

Would I get more if it were to return? I’m not sure. You have to watch with the ratios because it can get very syrupy and sour if you add too much leaf.

Tomorrow is my first day of work. Have to be up at 4:45am. A huge switch for this night owl. Not sure how I’m going to be managing this schedule. It’s also so weird not to be in an academic environment anymore. It’s all I know!

Good luck tomorrow!

I absolutely ADORE this tea. It is so good both iced and hot, although i prefer it iced. So rich and citrusy.. kinda tastes like pink flamingo but richer. Yummmm

Lisa Elizabeth

When I smelled this one in store, it smelled like an orange creamsicle! It’s definitely my favourite tea from the sunshine collection. Unfortunately, my mom decided to finish it off so I need to restock ASAP before it’s discontinued.

Danny

Lisaaaaaa i love marina and the diamonds omg it makes me so happy that she is your profile pic lol

Lisa Elizabeth

Ah!!! That’s amazing. I don’t think I’d qualify as a superfan but I am dedicated to the Marina love. Her songs are beautiful and so insightful. I’m absolutely loving FROOT so far. And there’s new FROOT out. I got to listen to that. <3

I picked up this tea when I was at DT in Moncton as we do not have one in Fredericton (which I hope changes soon). I finally got a chance to try it out this morning and it reminds me a lot of pink flamingo but with a hint of vanilla. I don’t see vanilla on the ingredient list so maybe its one of the flowers that gives in a vanilla-like finish. I quite like it, especially on a morning where is it -35 with the wind chill.

I’m drinking the end of my batch of iced tea. I really want to brew up another pitcher but I don’t want to use it all up before it’s (fingers crossed) restocked next year. Although I think I might add a touch of splenda or stevia to counteract the tartness.

Yesterday, I binge-watched Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt and loved the heck out of it. I highly recommend it. Today I have free tickets to the Toronto Roller Derby bout, but I’m feeling pretty crappy so I might stay home and read instead.

Sadlt Davids seems to rarely restock limited edition teas. I’ve been pining for one of my discontinued favourites to come back for a a while now. But if you want to grab more while it’s available, they have their tins of it 40% off right now http://www.davidstea.com/sunny-citrus-skinny-tin?&TF=27F5948F6518&DEID=

Fjellrev

Hopefully they’ll roll out bigger discounted batches on their web specials page soon too? It’s always worth keeping an eye on that.

Lisa Elizabeth

I bought 120 g on Wednesday, so I’m good for now. I’ve been keeping an eye on their loose leaf web specials but it’s been the same teas for weeks now!
