From DAVIDsTEA

This might just be the most decadently creamy fruit infusion we’ve ever tasted. Seriously. It’s almost crazy how much it tastes like a warm and comforting apple pudding. Our caffeine-free blend combines sweet apples, golden raisins and a rich and creamy hint of vanilla. Go ahead, indulge. With this in your cupboard, who needs dessert?

Ingredients (Original): Apples, golden raisins, coriander, chamomile, natural and artificial vanilla flavouring

Ingredients (10th Anniversary Update): Apples, golden raisins, coriander, calendula petals, natural and artificial vanilla flavouring. (May contain coconut)

This is the ultimate comfort tea for me as it reminds me so much of my childhood. When I was a girl (about a hundred years ago) at primary school, we used to be served bowls of fruit or vanilla cake with hot custard for lunchtime pudding and it was by far my favourite time of day. This tea tastes almost exactly like the “cake ‘n’ custard” of my school days and I can’t get enough of it!

I find I need to double the amount of dry tea that the package instructions recommend (otherwise it can taste a bit watery, not matter how long you steep it for,) and that a tiny drizzle of honey is just enough to really amplify the sweet flavours in the tea. As a bonus, it really makes the kitchen smell amazing when it’s brewing. Tip: Use the finest mesh infuser you have for this one – it’s bitty.

I was worried about this tea at first as I don’t normally like fruit teas. Got it in the winter collection set. This tea smells absolutely delicious in the bag, sweet and creamy and fresh. First taste was not bad, light and creamy, not the least bit sour (was worried about that), but not very sweet either. This tea tastes even better and creamier with just a touch of sweetener. So far I like it!

I loved this when it first came out and ordered a lot of lattes made with it. Maybe that’s what ruined it for me when fixed as a regular tea. When I made a cup at home, I noticed a peculiar mineral taste that made it less palatable. I assumed this was due to the fact that I don’t filter my water, or hadn’t descaled my kettle in awhile, so I didn’t think too much of it. But then, the next cup that I had prepared at DT also conveyed this same strange note. My tastebuds sometimes perceive chamomile as tasting a bit “dusty”, so that might be why. Perhaps when brewed up strong enough for a tea latte, the fruit flavours and vanilla dominate the chamomile. In any case, I enjoyed it for the season, but I won’t be terribly sad when it disappears from the shelves.

Reyna

I agree with you on the mineral taste and would believe the chamomile is to blame. I just brewed a cup myself (about 96C, used one David’s Perfect spoonful) and found the same thing actually.

Adding milk and raw sugar does improve it, however, it kind of sucks that there’s only one way to enjoy this tea.

Apple and vanilla flavors predominate. This tea is sweet, yet subtle in both smell and taste. It’s smooth and creamy for an herbal, and it accomplishes this without oiliness. So, it actually does remind me of custard. The chamomile blends well with the apple and raisin flavors, and at the end of each sip is a lingering tartness. Would have liked to taste more coriander. It’s a gentle-tasting tea, but it’s a little too artificial-tasting for me to add it to my cupboard. I ordered this as part of the “Winter Collection” packaging. It was nice while it lasted.

Thick creamy mouthfeel- one of the best I’ve experienced with an herbal. The chamomile flavour is clearly present but blends well with the other flavours. The aroma is quite creamy and sweet which does seem to translate to the flavour. I did have to use a quite strong cocentration of dry leaf to achieve this flavour profile, however

Day 20 of the advent calendar. The flavour of this tea reminds me of Forever Nuts. Not exactly the same but definitely close. I like Forever Nuts a little better as it tastes less artificial than Apple Custard does. I still like this one. For me, it’s apple and creamy vanilla all wrapped up in sweetness. I don’t get the coriander and I don’t get the chamomile which is fine by me. Not a fan of chamomile anyhow. I don’t feel like I need to keep stocked up on this one when I already have plenty of Forever Nuts. Still, it goes down easy and makes a pleasant enough drinking experience.

This tea was a delightful surprise. I wasn’t quite sure what to expect, especially with chamomile in the ingredients list, but it was extremely pleasant. It smells quite nice, and does very much taste like sweet custard. Its not very apple-y, but with the present flavors, thats a benefit. I love this one!

I had a small sample of this in store today. I guess camomile isn’t the best thing for pregnant women so I probably shouldn’t have had it, but it wasn’t much so I’m not too concerned.
Also, I got a tin of this for my mom-in-law for Christmas on the weekend and she texted me while we were driving home and said she loved it, so I was excited to try it.

It is amazing. It is a sweet apple tea. Don’t really know where to start to describe it, but honestly it was amazing. I recommend it fully.

gmathis

Sounds delicious. Chamomile and apple are made for each other.

Kittenna

I’m no doctor, but I feel like a bit of something is unlikely to have much effect. Regular consumption would be bad, though. My pregnant friend has a sample of mine to try once baby arrives (8 more days for her!)

Yeah I figure a little won’t be too bad.

Creamy custard! I was a bit surprised as I wasn’t expecting that. Honestly I thought it would be too strong with the chamomile. Truly wish it was thicker and to actually be custard. Though honestly I’m not tasting the apples like I was hoping.
