From DAVIDsTEA

Just dessert

What’s not to love about a red velvet cake? It’s chocolaty, it’s rich, and it’s bright red. We’re the first to admit it’s a pretty flashy dessert. If other cakes are birds of a feather, the red velvet is the peacock – which is exactly why we love it so much. And this sweet, lightly creamy black tea blend perfectly captures our favourite dessert. With semi-sweet and white chocolate chips, beetroot powder and little red sprinkles, it’s rich, delicious and a whole lot of fun.

Ingredients: Black tea, semi-sweet chocolate bits, white chocolate bits, beetroot powder, sprinkles, natural and artificial flavouring*.

Allergens: Soy and dairy

YUM***YUM***
I was very surprised that a black tea could taste so good when blended! Davids definitely has the in on which black tea to use for their concoctions. I prepared as directed with 208 degree water and for 4 minutes. It was perfectly sweet and didn’t need any editing. Would probably be great as a latte too! Fortunately I have enough to try that next time.
Will for sure be ordering more of this wonderful dessert tea!

A temptation that I just couldn’t resist in Harvest Tin form. It has a wonderful aroma and does remind the senses well of the actual cake. In both dry form and when it is brewed. Much like the other cake teas did for their match all the way up to the cute sprinkles. The flavor is very rich and mellow with just the right notes of sweetness. Just like a hot chocolate with lots of whipped cream only a little more milder. Between this and Chocolate cake I’d probably say that this one is a bit more creamier than the other with its more complex nuances. I will definitely be drinking more of this one or stock up if its a limited edition.

Had this tea for my birthday on the 10th and it was a perfect fit for the evening.Very maple-like in its syrupy sweetness and just what I needed. Especially for the first of the late night management seminar classes. Thank you DAVIDs for providing a treat like this tea for all those special moments.

My first cuppa after a long hot summer, this was perfect. Rich and chocolately without being chalky or powdery. Yummmmm. Only note: needs a longer steep time.

This tea tastes like chocolate cake batter with sprinkles. Very happy with it. I still have about 1-2 cups worth left, so I will have to see which additions will meld well with this. Thanks jeweledthumb for this.

I’m feeling rather odd about this one. It tastes good. It’s sweet, it’s black tea. It’s very sweet in what I’m coming to view as a generic sort of way. I actually don’t taste chocolate at all! It tastes like caramel to me. And, while you can’t fault a tea for tasting like caramel, that wasn’t why I bought this. My gentleman friend got one to go from the store, with milk, and when I had a sip and told him it didn’t taste like chocolate he didn’t know what I was talking about; not knowing what red velvet cake is and the tea tasting like caramel had him confused. Anyway. I’ve since had it at home a couple times and while I won’t be upset to use it up it is another that I’m not going to feel compelled to re-buy.

I got the caramel notes too. It was a nice flavour but I didn’t get a chocolate. Glad I’m not the only one!

If today was a Butiki afternoon, then tonight was a Davidstea evening.
I should have reversed that order, because now the day is ending on a sour note, literally. That tea note will be the next one I write.

After supper I made a mug of this. Not sure what gave me the urge, but I had this moment of realization like “OMG, you might not like those anymore, you should try them again to see” (I’d been thinking about all my old dessert tea faves, this, banana dream pie, pineapple upside down cake, etc).

So I made this.

And……no. Just no.
Not for me, not anymore.

Once upon a time I’d rated it in the 80’s, I could not believe such a magical dessert tea existed.

Tonight though, so sweet. Sooooo chemical. Oily surface residue. Overpowering smell.
I couldn’t finish the cup. I’m so over these ridiculously sweetened tea concoctions.

It had a bit of a cream cheese note in there, otherwise just…fake sugar.

To the swap pile!
I’m so happy that I decided to never drink this one again.
Rating is being lowered according to my tastes now.

Wowsers. Butiki’s ruined you for DAVIDs! Hahaha.

ohfancythat

Butiki and Mariage Freres and Persimmon Tree and Kusmi and Verdant and and and…….

Sigh

$$$$$$ is all I see now, haha

ohfancythat

Stupid internet, giving me access to all these delicious teas I’d never even heard of before

MissB

Heh. I’m less of a fan now of DAVIDs as I used to be. Having said that, pricey tea does not always equate to good tea (meaning: tea that I enjoy and/or like). There are only a few DAVIDs that I’ll keep in stock now, but really? I’ll try almost anything now, and I’m finding that even more fun than just sticking with the “high end” brand names, that for a while I too only drank.

ohfancythat

Oh I am banking on pricy tea not necessarily being equated with “good tea”

I just know that as I figure out what I love now, stocking it in my cupboard is not going to be pretty on my wallet!

I’m really hoping most of those loves will be reasonably priced rather than at MF levels, haha

this one smells amaaazing!
a bit of a red stain on my white cup from the sprinkles, but i don’t mind.
it does taste rich and cakey, with that white chocolate kiss coming through!
definitely a dark chocolate lingering. i’ll have to try this baby as a latte.
i’ll grab some more if i happen to be near a davids, but i won’t be ordering a ton online.

I received this in a “Mystery Swap” from Allie. Thank you! I received about 30 samples in the span of 2 weeks so I am struggling to get all of them tasted. This one I have been sipping on at work but the tasting note has been neglected.

So by the name of this tea I wasn’t sure what it would taste like. Red Velvet to me is a mellow chocolate cake. This tea was very light colored when steeped it smells of roasted sugar. The smell is pretty much like it tastes. It is a roasted sugary caramely taste. Light and sweet. Not at all what I was originally thinking it would taste like , but still a really good dessert tea. I should try this with a hint of sugar after dinner sometime. Thank you for sharing this one with me Allie. I am glad I got to try this one.

Had a cup of this at the Bleecker St store in NYC. Added agave but this tea didn’t really need it. A very delicious and full tasting blend and you can definitely taste the cake and icing. I already have too many dessert teas but I may eventually add this to my collection.

So excited to try this tea today! It came in the mail yesterday as I was leaving for work…. :( But, today is a new day and time to try some new tea!!!

First off, even with a cold this tea smells good. Reminds me of cake! And as odd as this may sound…the tea itself seems a lot more moist than traditional black tea. Everything about this tea reminds me of a red velvet cake.

As the I poured the hot water over my cake tea there was a thin layer of foam, which made the tea look more like a coffee beverage. The smell of the tea was not masked by the water either. As I poured the water, the scent actually grew stronger. I haven’t even tasted the tea yet (as it cools), and I’m already loving it.

Finally the taste test! I always put a little honey in my tea (usually a tsp, but lately been weening myself off with half a tsp.), but I make sure to always try my tea before I add my honey. This tea really had that cake taste to it, but I’m still going to add honey to see if it will bring the flavor out a little more. I have noticed with DT honey is almost always needed to make their tea taste like it sounds.

So here goes….honey it, tea cup in hand…..tastes good! I would beware though, too much honey could ruin this tea. I put 1/2 tsp. of honey in and I can almost taste the honey over the tea itself. I think if I would have put an entire tsp. in it probably would have tasted like honey tea rather than a red velvet cake tea.

Overall, this is a pretty good tea. I purchased 100g of this tea, and I’m sure once valentines day passes this tea will be discontinued until next season. While this tea is good, I’m sure if I run out I will be find going without this tea until it comes back next valentines day.
