652 tasting notes

If today was a Butiki afternoon, then tonight was a Davidstea evening.
I should have reversed that order, because now the day is ending on a sour note, literally. That tea note will be the next one I write.

After supper I made a mug of this. Not sure what gave me the urge, but I had this moment of realization like “OMG, you might not like those anymore, you should try them again to see” (I’d been thinking about all my old dessert tea faves, this, banana dream pie, pineapple upside down cake, etc).

So I made this.

And……no. Just no.
Not for me, not anymore.

Once upon a time I’d rated it in the 80’s, I could not believe such a magical dessert tea existed.

Tonight though, so sweet. Sooooo chemical. Oily surface residue. Overpowering smell.
I couldn’t finish the cup. I’m so over these ridiculously sweetened tea concoctions.

It had a bit of a cream cheese note in there, otherwise just…fake sugar.

To the swap pile!
I’m so happy that I decided to never drink this one again.
Rating is being lowered according to my tastes now.

Wowsers. Butiki’s ruined you for DAVIDs! Hahaha.

Butiki and Mariage Freres and Persimmon Tree and Kusmi and Verdant and and and…….

Sigh

$$$$$$ is all I see now, haha

ohfancythat

Stupid internet, giving me access to all these delicious teas I’d never even heard of before

Heh. I’m less of a fan now of DAVIDs as I used to be. Having said that, pricey tea does not always equate to good tea (meaning: tea that I enjoy and/or like). There are only a few DAVIDs that I’ll keep in stock now, but really? I’ll try almost anything now, and I’m finding that even more fun than just sticking with the “high end” brand names, that for a while I too only drank.

ohfancythat

Oh I am banking on pricy tea not necessarily being equated with “good tea”

I just know that as I figure out what I love now, stocking it in my cupboard is not going to be pretty on my wallet!

I’m really hoping most of those loves will be reasonably priced rather than at MF levels, haha

Hello!

I love tea. I love my mini-me daughter, my husband, my dog Wally, Netflix, shopping, and tea. Some other stuff too, but these are the most important!

Some favourites -

My new favourite tea company is A Quarter to Tea. I love the flavouring used and how it doesn’t seem fake, and the combinations are so delicious. Right up my alley.

My favourite teas are black, I love Laoshan Black and Taiwanese Wild Mountain Black tea from TTC. Also many of Teavivre’s black teas.

Butiki teas RIP, I loved how the flavours were subtle and not fake tasting and didn’t overwhelm the tea base. Trust that I am dramatically mourning the loss of this company!

Teavivre, Whispering Pines and Mariage Freres are some more tea companies I appreciate. Along with Davidstea as it was the ‘gateway drug’ to my tea addiction. Though I’m mostly over it now, I’ve definitely moved on from the artificially flavoured teas and am trying more quality straight teas!

My ultimate goal is to try as many French teas as possible – and to finally find a source in Canada for Mariage Freres so I can buy Wedding Imperial, and Black Orchid for sure.

I would like to try any Taiwanese Assams that exist in the world!

Also continuously on the hunt for Fauchon – La Naissance. If anyone has some of this I would pay for it!!! It’s my number one all time favourite tea.

When I rate, it goes like this:

85 -100 = WIN! awesome, I love this and keep it on hand
70 – 85 = pretty darn good but I don’t NEED to own it
55 – 70 = not necessarily terrible but not a tea for me!
30 – 55 = missed the mark as far as I am concerned. Wouldn’t drink it willingly.
0 – 30 = I likely won’t rate this low very often, so if you see it, consider the tea a great big FAIL and probably disgusting.
