Strawberry Rhubarb Parfait

I’m finishing off the last of my stash of this today, and although I like it I’m not sad to see it go. I can definitely taste the rhubarb in this, its nice and tart. I can also taste sweet strawberry and apple in this cup, it balances out the tartness of the rhubarb nicely. Tart with sweet undertones, and it tastes amazing iced. Although I do love this tea, I think I’ve had much too much of it lately. I won’t re-buy it again for a while.

Also, I can say that this was a sipdown since I finished off the last of my stash of this right?

My DAVIDsTEA order came in today, and I am so glad that I decided to give this a try! It’s just so delightfully sweet and creamy – both in aroma and flavor. My husband has been tearing through the ice cubes lately, so I had to try it hot instead of cold first, but I am making up a batch to put in the fridge with a “no touchie!” sign! ;)

This tea smells like yummy candy in the bag. I brewed it up and dunked a biscuit in it, waiting for it to cool a bit for drinking. If all I wanted was a good tea-soaked biscuit, this would be a top pick, but on it’s own it’s not so good. The yogurt chips are what really ruined it for me. The yogurt chips lent a sour cheese-cakeish flavor to the tea that I didn’t care for. I must admit that I do not like cheesecake or cheese-based frosting (like on red-velvet or carrot cake), so this tea might be just right for you cheesecake people out there (who also like Hibiscus :p )

I got this as a sample with an order. A bit disappointing to be honest. A nice dose of hibiscus which acts as the tartness from the rhubarb, but not much else. Wasn’t getting anything berry or crumbly. For me the tartness would have been perfectly balanced if I’d had a stronger strawberry taste, but it was about all I got, so it was too strong. Was a bit sad to not be able to taste anything crumble-like, given my increasing fandom for DT’s cake teas.

Not for me, but thats fine, I have many other options!

While steeping, this one smells like a mixture of strawberry rhubard pie and strawberry ice cream! I let it steep for 7 minutes.

Hot this tea is amazing! A little tart, but not in a bad way. I could really taste the rhubarb and the strawberries added just the right amount of sweetness. The yogurt makes it nice and creamy too.

Cold, this tea stands out even more. It was quite strong and tasted exactly like a fresh piece of pie:)

This one will definitely be a regular in my cupboard!

I finished the last of this off as a cold brew. It is more strawberry, and very creamy as a cold brew. I do not get any rhubarb at all. The only bad thing is I am getting a bit of hibiscus. I had an earlier mishap with hibiscus in a cold brew that required me to dump the whole pitcher. I am glad that I only cold brewed this one for about 4 hours.

Fruity, tart and lovely. Slightly creamy and delicious. Not one I grab for usually, but I did enjoy it tonight as an iced tea.

It smells like a delicious parfait although there isn’t a distinct creaminess to it (which makes me want to add a dash of cream). I steeped my tea for 6-7 minutes so that could be why the flavor is slightly bitter. Almost reminiscent of eating unripened strawberries. Since it already has a strawberry milkshake smell, I could see this being much better sweetened and over ice.

Day 7 of the 24 Days of Tea

I am behind on my tastings in my advent calendar. I worked on Saturday and didn’t have time to pay attention to this tea.

Well… yet another tea I see has high ratings.

At first sniff: They definitely nailed the strawberry. I am not sure I smell rhubarb but oh well. However, like with most DavidsTea blends, it smells a tad artificial. Like a strawberry candy, or those strawberry marshmellows I use to love as a kid. I get hints of the raisin that is in it and can smell apple as well. It smells good, but has me worried about the taste.

At first steep: I brewed the whole sample in a bit pot, prepping it for chilling. It brewed up a bright red pink, I attribute this to teas that have hibiscus in them. Hmmm…. yeahhhh (like Office Space).. how to describe this. What comes to mind is a watered down strawberry yogurt that is trying to be strawberry rhubarb, but because it has fake sweetener and no substance to it (ie, creaminess, fat etc) it really lets you down. Like those yogurt brands that try to make dessert flavoured yogurts and make my toe nails curl… I just yea… it’s tart from the hibiscus and it leaves me with that artificial after taste.

My fears were confirmed on this. I bet it will taste better chilled. I tried some hot on my first shot just to see. I really hope this is okay chilled, but we will have to see. Will re-review after this and potentially change the rating.

This was my take to work afternoon cup. I love how the tartness from the rhubarb and the creaminess from the strawberry balance each other out so nicely. The yogurt is such a nice finishing touch to round out the flavours. A great classic staple!
