Daydream believer
At our annual staff party last summer, we invented the best drink ever: iced green tea with mango-flavoured ice cubes. It was totally refreshing and subtly fruity, like drinking a cup of green tea while daydreaming about tropical fruit. Hence the name: The Daydreamer. We’ve recreated it for you here, with a sencha green tea lightly flavoured with mango, guava and mangousteen. Steep a cup and dream a little dream of tea. Limited edition.
Ingredients: Fair Trade Certified Sencha green tea, mango, safflower, marigold, natural and artificial mangousteen flavoring, artificial guava flavoring*.

I found this to be a lovely blend. The fruitiness of the mango and “grassy” flavour of the green tea mixed very nicely, creating a harmonious and delicious blend. The first resteep was quite nice as well. A second resteep (what I’m currently on) leaves the tea much more strong than the mango, though the latter is still present.
Oddly enough, I think that the mix between the green tea and the mango is what makes it so nice for me. Mango Madness tasted too much like pure mango, and made me want it to have the vibrancy of the fruit instead, which I doubt I’m ever going to find in a tea. However, the equally strong green tea flavour gave a nice counterbalance and reflexivity, making the mango flavour more of a sweet fruity addition rather than an overdemanding flavour.
Definitely something I’d like to have more of. And if it’s this good hot, I can only imagine what it would be like iced, the way it was originally meant to be served!
I got this as a sample in my last order from Davids Tea. I enjoy the fruity (mango) smell and I usually don’t like mangos…although I always try it again just to see…but it sure isn’t my fruit of choice…blegh. The tea though is nice.
The first steeping had alot of fruity flavor although I could tell at the end a bit of artificalness to it. The second steeping I could smell more of a grassiness to the tea and alot more of the mango flavor came out while the others were non existent. It was VERY astringent BUT that’s b/c I set it down here at work and had to go do other things so that’s pry why.This is not bad, as the sencha green tea really works with the mango, there’s a nice detailed flavor added to the fruit.
It is quite a dark tea, as mango is a dark fruit, and the sencha tea really solidifies that flavor.
It is quite surprising how closely this resembles Tim Horton’s peach passion drink, as that is one of very few drinks I enjoy at Tim Horton’s.
I guess this is a great drink for an early to mid Spring afternoon, I would imagine this would be better sweetened and iced.
I cold steeped this for over 24 hours. I don’t think I used enough leaf since it is very light. Right out of the fridge, it is a refreshing drink and a plus, it doesn’t need sweetener. I wouldn’t say it’s especially unique, but sometimes you need a departure from exciting teas for something simple and safe.
I’m honestly surprised to realize this doesn’t have any peach in it. It might be the mangosteen mixing with the green sencha, but this tastes to me like a fuzzy peach, skin and all. The fruit is sweet, but not cloying against the sencha. This flavor is closer to what I expected from other mango/green teas, so I’m pretty happy with it. It’s not a perfect tea, but it was good for these hot afternoons.
Like another tea-drinker mentioned, I seem to like this tea a lot more than the average Joe. Tastes a lot juicier than most teas, and I find it’s especially good on dreary weekend mornings when you really need that extra kick to get going. Like having your morning juice and your morning tea all in the same cup.
Someone else posted they would rather just have Mango Madness; I also have that tea, and to me the two don’t compare. I don’t know what it is about this one (maybe it’s the green versus white tea base?), but while I also really like Mango Madness the two are not interchangeable, nor could one be replaced by the other. I’d like both, please! :)
The dry leaves smell strongly of mango and a classic sencha smell.
The brew smells fairly weak, even after accidently over-steeping it for 30 seconds. The liquor is a nice yellow-ish green.
The taste of this tea is quite smooth and mild. The mango is very subtle, but it adds a very nice almost “creamy” smoothness to the brew. This would be a great tea on a nice warm spring day while sitting on the patio. I like this one! Not a favourite, but it is quite enjoyable.
This tea has a bright, lush scent to the dry leaves. Lots of mango detected. It makes me think of palm trees and white, sun-drenched beaches. So far so good, right?
Sipping a mug of this, I’m getting a lot of the green tea with notes of ripe mango popping through. Also, strangely, peach. Refreshing and light, for sure. But it’s starting to taste a little artificial. Meh….
Um, yeah… This unfortunately isn’t what I was anticipating. Sigh. Nice try, David’s Teas. If I want mango tea I’m sure there’s a better alternative to this, somewhere. Suggestions, anyone?
