From DAVIDsTEA

Bad colds require great interventions. Take this tea, for example. It’s a deliciously soothing mix of peppermint, juniper berries and orange peel. Pretty great, right? If that’s not extreme enough for you, you could try eating raw garlic, or gargling salt water, or inhaling lots of steam. Yeah…we didn’t think so. Probably better just to stick to the tea. With its soothing citrus and mint aroma we can’t guarantee miracle results, but at least we can guarantee it tastes great. (MK Kosher)

Ingredients: Organic: peppermint, juniper berries, orange peel. With natural eucalyptus and orange oil.

I’m still drowsy from meds but here goes:

For the past week I’ve been drinking cup after cup of this because of a stubborn developing cold that is taking forever to get worse. It seems like my immune system is fighting a good fight (darn you sudden cold Vancouver weather!) and I’m at that stage where it feels like I’m beginning to get really sick or I’ve just gotten better from being sick. UGH! I’m not a mint tea fan and this is the only tea I actually enjoy and want more of that has peppermint/mint.
….uhm and..
Yay for cold 911! You will be my go to when I’m sick.

This is step three of my cold regiment. After toughing it out with the immune boosters that were my first two cups, I sigh with relief and sit back with a cup of something that makes me feel better. I like this tisane.

The appearance of the dry leaves is fresh and inviting. The green looks healthy and the brown is a complimenting contrast. There are scattered pieces of dried orange peel that reminds me of tiny croutons, and the juniper berries are whole. They’re firm looking and round, like tiny little bullets that will kick this cold where it’s needed. The scent is refreshing. The peppermint and eucalyptus are just what I need right now, but what’s nice is the scent of orange. It’s surprisingly noticeable in a very pleasant way. I should sprinkle some of this on my pillow.

When first steeped, the eucalyptus is the dominant and most welcome aroma. There are other scents, but they’re not discernible at this point. It’s a little bit woody and musty, but nothing I can point out. After a minute, the peppermint starts to take over where the eucalyptus left off. Though, the welcoming effect of eucalyptus is still lingering. Near the end of the steep, there’s a slight hint of the orange oil, but not the peels.

The liquor is not much to look at. It’s a subtle bronze with amber highlights and an earthy green that floats atop it. That first sip is a sip of relief though. The woodsy notes are underplayed by the eucalyptus that offers the comfort I’m seeking. The dominant flavour is peppermint, followed by the sharper eucalyptus and a hint of orange. There is a subtle tartness that I’m guessing is from the juniper berries, but it is overshadowed by the smooth peppermint. I’m also not really sure what a juniper berry tastes like. Either way, it’s soothing going down. My scratchy throat and sinuses are relieved and I feel a little better even though I know the moment is fleeting.

This is a tisane I am thankful for. It’s made my day a little more tolerable and my alertness is coming back. It’s a great feeling.

I bought this two weeks ago when I was at the DAVIDsTEA on Bleecker St in NYC (woo! Vacation!). I bought it because I was starting to feel a tickle in my throat and I’m glad I did because a few days later it turned into a full blown cold. I drank only this for about a week straight and it was lifesaving. It was the only thing my stomach could handle (and it was a shame since I had also picked up about five other teas while I was there and barely had a chance to try them) and the eucalyptus was refreshing since well, I was barely able to breathe through my nose, yet alone smell anything. I also liked that it was so strong that I only had to steep it for a short time and got multiple steeps. This tea is definitely going to be a staple since I plan to keep it around for those times I’m feeling under the weather.

Picked this up today because I’ve been fighting a nasty cough that just keeps getting worst. My sinuses aren’t plugged, so I definitely picked up the scent of juniper when I opened the bag along with peppermint and eucalyptus…absolutely no orange. The citrus and mint came through when I brewed…quite honestly I probably wouldn’t drink this outside of being sick but it is making my throat feel better and is helping clear my sinuses from the minor congestion they are experiencing so yay.

Kind of smells like a tree in my books…atleast that was my first thought when I opened the bag…its a nice smell though

The last time I tried this tea, I wasn’t sick, I made too much of it, and I ended up drinking some of it cold. It made me nausious. This time, I actually am ill, and I drank it hot. It was great; it made my throat and head feel so much better.

I don’t really know how to describe the taste of this one- mint for sure and then something almost pine-y. I did quite enjoy it though! It definitely soothed my sore throat but I am still sick so I can’t give it that good of a score…

I must be the only person on here who drinks it while not sick. And I gotta say I am really enjoying it. It is very minty up to a point where I can feel freshness in my throat long after the sip, it smells herbalicious and I am feeling a little sleepy though I had 3 cups of tieguanin before that. Perfect tea for worknights when I can’t afford to drink caffeinated teas after work since I have to go to bed earlier. It tastes medicinal but I appreciate it, gives me a feeling that it’s not just a bunch of hay, but herbs that are actually good for me. Whether that’s actually true is a different story altogether but power of mind is an important thing!

Cold 911 has been my best friend for the past few days. An unexpected mini-cold hit me at the worst time possible and I needed instant relief. The smell of the tea is incredible and strong with mint and eucalyptus – instantly clears your sinuses even if just for a brief moment. I really let it steep for over the recommended time thinking that it couldn’t get too strong and I needed all of the help I could get. The taste is really nice. It was much more mild in the medicinal quality and just nice and sweet minty with a nice touch of orange at the end.

This tea definitely helped me feel more comfortable while I was sick and my cold is mostly gone now. For fun, I also tried mixing it half half with the Immunizer for an extra healing kick and it tasted really nice!

I was most definitely not expecting to have to break this out of the caffeine free sampler pack so soon! In fact, my throat started to hurt nearly immediately after I left DAVIDs. Not sure whether this is seasonal allergies or an actual cold, but either way, it was enough for me to try this first.

Cold 911 smells like a minty medicinal tea. Steeped it is a surprisingly citrusy tea. I can’t decide if it is an orange peel tea with a mint echinacea or if it’s the other way around. Still, I love citrus, so tasting some orange in here was a nice surprise. I drank it without honey, but I imagine the addition would be great too.

Not bad at all!

This tea does exactly what it is supposed to do. Open up the nasal passages and help a person breath. I also will recommend the David’s Tea Cold Survival Kit. It is eveything you need to beat a cold or at least feel cozy while suffering. Each tea packet in the kit explains what it dowes and what it is for. I even buy refills to keep my kit well stocked. The perfect Go-to-Box of wellness teas for sickies!
