Black Cherry Berry

I took today off – I turned the world off and spent the day with the cat, the TV, and a book. No computer, no phone, no world. Sometimes I just need to be…..
I have been drinking tea today, and I’m about to log them all, but they aren’t going to be real tasting notes. It’s my day off – I just want to log that I drank the, and if I liked the. Please excuse what is about to follow.

This one I actually drank a couple of nights ago and didn’t log.
I love all things cherry, and this is no exception. Decent cherry tea, not too fake, a bit of weird at the end, but I thought that might be from the paper in the tea bag. I would drink this again.

There was a box of this on clearance at Target, so instead of buying what I actually needed, I bought it. I steeped two bags in a glass of water for about 2 hours, and I’ve got a pretty potent little drink.

This is the first time though I’ve ever been able to actually taste paper from the sachets in a tea. Thankfully the cherry flavor is pretty strong and covers it rather quickly. It’s definitely a lot like koolaid, but hey, there’s nothing wrong with a natural, not filled with cups of sugar koolaid now is there?

The cherry isn’t medicinal, though it’s a bit tart, which I think we can easily blame on the first ingredient, hibiscus.

Not bad, but definitely something I’ll only be drinking iced like this.

A yummy lazy leave the bag in the cup tisane! Taken with a little honey. I am finding the black cherry to be the predominant flavor. It’s really flavorful, and I enjoyed it so much that I boiled some more water for a resteep of the bag. It’s milder, but still quite enjoyable!

I was a little suspicious since the hibiscus was the first on the ingredient list, but lazy and in a hurry (are those terms contradictory?) so I just dumped the bag in the cup and stuck it in the work microwave.

Nice surprise. No tartness! Just good and fruity. Kudos to CS for a fruit tea that doesn’t break you out in a sour sweat.

My second one. It’s tart. But it still has a nice flavor. It reminds me of hot koolaid.

True story — I’ve gotten most of the people who work at my branch hooked on teas. Or rather, re-interested in them. Today a coworker brought in some tea that her hubby had bought for her for us to try. It was CT’s Black Cherry and when I sniffed it smelled exactly like those sore throat/cough teas I drink when I’m under the weather. It smelled comforting and familiar, and when I tasted it, I loved the tartness and the berry added as well. And no medicinal aftertaste, hahaha!

Me, yesterday to the girls on the member services side: “First I got you all hooked on Doctor Who, now I’m getting you all hooked on tea. Basically, I’m turning you British.”

Well, this is the first time I have drank this tea knowing what it is going in. I tried my best to keep an open mind, but I still don’t like it. It has that Kool-Aid flavour that I find typical of Celestial Seasonings’ berry teas, and it might just be my least favourite of the sample pack. So far my only success with CS is in the True Blueberry, and I think i like the Peach one. Only one bag left of this, and I won’t miss it.

If I think long enough and know that it’s supposed to be black cherry, I can taste it, but it’s hidden under the Kool-Aid. I also think it’s only because I know that black cherry is theoretically the flavour.

… How has this not been in my cupboard? I’ve had it for ages.

Anyway, I brewed this the other day, even though it’s so stupidly hot outside (and in my apartment too, with temps getting as high as 84 degrees, according to my atomic clock). Still can’t have caffeine, but this worked very nicely with my biscuit at breakfast. :) I can definitely taste the black cherry as well as the other vaguely fruity notes of “berry.” There’s almost a metallic quality to the aftertaste, which may be the hibiscus and rosehips. Anyway, not bad, if you don’t mind hibiscus (though I’ve noticed a lot of people on here do mind it).

While still quite hot, I still get a bit of the cherry, a sweet-tart flavour. As it cools, I thought that perhaps it would get a bit more depth, but… despite being able to taste more, it’s still very much pure cherry, which is interesting with the amount of different ingredients in here.
So, this tea is pretty much what it says on the label. Not bad!
