My partner wanted to help out and added water without the timer, so this steeped for…. who even knows, but at least 10 minutes. Still, it avoided the extreme bitterness I was afraid of after the steep. I am mostly getting almond and something floral, which I assume is the rose. This is probably my least favorite of the teas so far in the advent, but it’s not bad, and I don’t even know if that’s the tea’s fault!

BrutaliTeas Advent Calendar 2022 – Day 5

Enjoying this one more than I thought I would, given I’m not a fan of almond flavoring in tea.

But all of the flavors are more mellow than I expected. I can’t really tell it’s puerh, which is surprising. I get hints of fruitiness from the cranberry, but mostly I can taste buttery nuts and a bit of cream. There is some of that marzipan-y almond flavor too, but it melds in a bit with the cream, which I think makes it more palatable to me. The base though, seems much more astringent than their other black teas that I’ve tried so far. There’s a noticeable drying effect at the end of the sip, and a hint of bitterness too. Strange, I used the same steeping parameters…

Anyway, pleasantly surprised to enjoy this one! :)

Sipdown from last week!

I enjoyed this one, although the cranberry and cream flavouring means it has some overlap with Brutaliteas’ Crantera blend. The inclusion of pistachio, almond, and of pu-erh gives this an earthy and velvety-smooth quality that is a little extra! It also paired exceptionally well eggnog for an extra festive component (Yes, groceries here seem to push eggnog for Canadian Thanksgiving).

I’m a little sad I didn’t save this one for winter festivities.

I sort of get pistachio here, but it’s more fruity than nutty. Sweetened with milk, it’s pretty creamy and tasty. It almost gains a boba-type flavor as it sits. The flavors are dulled when I have this cold or hot. It definitely shines most at room temperature.

Day 5 of my advent calander, I enjoy this flavor every year. I don’t know why I don’t just purchase it. It tastes like a decadent sweet dessert that needs no sweetener or cream. I brewed my sample size into a six Oz cup which was perfect for this blend.

Adventaggedon Day 5: Tea 1/7

This pun is giving me life right now – it might be one of my favourite Brutalities names yet, truthfully. The tea tastes a lot more fruity than I had expected to – very distinct cranberry notes, leaning sweeter and not so much in the tart vain. I enjoy the taste, but if I’ve being honest I’m a bit let down by the fact there’s not more pistachio. Like, it’s nutty! There’s that sort of candied pistachio taste that I’ve experienced in Dammann Frere blends and I get the amaretto/marzipan style sweet almond too. I just wish it was more of a pure play on pistachio.

Still good, though!

I get that, I think their formula has changed since but I believe its meant to be more like the cherry almond pistachio icecream?

2021 Advent Calendar

I really enjoyed this one. I liked the flavor combination of almonds, pistachios, and cranberries. I don’t detect the rose petals at all, which is good as I don’t usually care for rose teas.

Adding cream and sugar makes this tea more Marzipan-like, bordering a little on macaroon. I’d note almonds, SUGA!, pistachio, and fruity hints from the cranberry. It’s something that would pair really well with cookies as a dessert tea. Still interesting and unique, but depends on cream and sugar to cut through bitterness and astringency. I like it and am happy I have some.

Advent Day 5

This is my first time trying this blend since the change. I used to absolutely love it (and scored it at a 100 for quite awhile). However, the updated blend isn’t nearly as good as the previous. I’m getting much less nutty, marzipan goodness and way more cranberry. The cranberry is fine, but I loved the balance of mellow rose and intense nuttiness. Such a shame that this blend was changed so much.

Did they mention why so many of the blends changed? I noticed that some that used to be sourced from Adagio are different now.

tea-sipper

oh no! I’m sorry they changed a favorite for you
