From 52teas

One of our regulars is always trying to combine different combinations of vanilla and mint. His most recent favorite is blending our vanilla bean cheesecake chai with the mintastic. So, this one is for Truong.

Here’s a caffeine-free African honeybush blended with white chocolate chips, organic vanilla beans and fresh cut spearmint. Enjoy!

Our Tea of the Week for the week of October 5th, 2010

Thanks to Batrachoid for this sample.

This is really good. It is similar to DAVIDsTEA mint chocolate rooibos. But, this one has white chocolate with a honeybush base. It is nice and smooth with sweet chocolate. The mint isn’t overpowering.

I think I might even like this one better than the DT version. The rooibos base gives it more of an earthy base, whereas the honeybush in this blend makes is sweeter and smoother.

This sounds so good.

Amanda

it does sound good :( they need to bring some flavors back for the newbie tea drinkers.

tigress_al

I noticed that they reblended a few recently, but Frank should continue on that trend!

What must my mailman think of me? For nearly 4 years, all he delivered was bills, a card or two, and the odd package or two once or twice a year. I had 4 packages in my box today. Had 2 yesterday. And the week before had a few more.

Thank you, Steepster Overlords, for supporting both tea companies and the USPS.

So, yes, my 52teas order arrived (among other things), and I had to have this tea first. Against my honeybush-inclinations, I decided to brew it for 5 minutes to start (normally I’d go 10). Also having it neat this first go around.

It’s minty, with an almond bark-like taste and even texture to it. The honeybush is there, of course, and provides a gentle sweetness. It tastes…just like a grasshopper. Smooth and delicious and NOM. I’ll definitely be trying it out at 10 minutes, just to see what happens.

I raise my teacup to you, Frank. You’ve done it again, and by everything good and wonderful in this world, please make this permanent.

Jaime, I just placed two orders with 52Teas and of course this was not one of them. I am so sad. You make this sound so yummy!

Jaime

It’s amazing, Rachel, it really is. I very well may get another pouch the next time I order, to be perfectly honest. I understand how you feel, though…I don’t have any of the Apple-Vanilla White Chai.

LiberTEAS

Rachel, I just got my order from 52Teas today, and I did order this one, so if you’d like, I will include a bit of it in with your box that I’m putting together for you!

RachanaC (Rachel)-iHeartTeas

OMG!!!! I am so HAPPY! Doing a happy dance. Don’t look at me, it’s embarrassing.

Jaime

There’s very few teas that I will hoard and protect in my cupboard. This one, the PBJ rooibos, and LiberTEAS’s Breakfast blend are ones that I’d fight someone for. I’d win, too, cause I can be a mean little Kentucky girl when I need to be! :-P

RachanaC (Rachel)-iHeartTeas

LOL, I know what you mean :-)

Cofftea

It’s a joke in my family that I’ll marry the UPS, USPS, or FedEx guy.

LiberTEAS

You know what the best part of this particular comment thread is? Jaime’s comment: “This one, the PBJ rooibos, and LiberTEAS’s Breakfast blend are ones that I’d fight someone for.”

Meghann M

Jaime, I’ve got some apple vanilla white chai set aside for you in the package I’m readying. Glad this tea is THAT good. I finally caved when Frank listed the reblends individually on Friday, can’t wait to try it!

Jaime

Meghann, you’re my hero! Doing an happy dance…yes, it’s embarrassing, but look all you want and laugh!!

LiberTEAS, it’s the truth. I love that stuff!

RachanaC (Rachel)-iHeartTeas

So much dancing going on. Frank has created a virtual blends dance party.

Well… I managed one sipdown tonight, at least! Although since I drank a whopping half cup of cold tea yesterday, I really needed to have made more progress than this today…

Anyways, this is a sample from momo that I found in my huge box from her last night, and decided to finish off!

I’m not sure if I got a big white chocolate chip the last time I had this, but I certainly did this time! The result is an extra-creamy cup, I think. Not that I really remember what this tasted like 7 months ago, to be honest. Either way, this is tolerably minty and creamy, on the nice honeybush base that I so enjoy (compared to rooibos). I’m getting a bit of a tang of some sort (is this supposed to be a cheesecake blend?) that makes this more than simply mint + creaminess, and makes the cup a bit more interesting.

Overall, this is pretty tasty. I imagine a re-blend of it would sell quickly, haha.

ETA: As with most of Frank’s HB blends, this one has one good re-steep :)

Just received this in the mail this afternoon. I have to admit that this was one that I wasn’t sure if I’d order or not. I mean, it sounded good, but, I wasn’t sure if it was necessarily one that I just had to try.

I am glad that I finally decided to order it because it’s outstanding!

I will have to write more later because this is too good right now for wordage.

But… I will take another moment to add this: Frank… you have a WAY with honeybush.

I’m sorry, that was very, very bad. I just couldn’t resist.

TeaEqualsBliss

LOL @ Frank! I sooooo want to try this!!!!

amandajo

Oh I agree with that last statement! Anything that I see honeybush by him I know I am going to wind up buying! Just too good!

Kristen

All these reviews are making me so glad I ordered and now I absolutely can NOT wait to get my order!!! :) I saw Amandajo’s post earlier and now this one!!!

Meghann M

Glad to read that this is so amazing. Agree with everyone that Frank has a way with honeybush!

I want to thank everyone for their kind words and wishes for my friend that was diagnosed yesterday with a tumour on her pineal gland. It takes me back to two years ago when my husband was battling with testicular cancer and 2/3 years before that it was my mother with Ovarian cancer. It still surprises me how many people develop cancer in their lifetime and it starts to ring in my head the fact that 1 in 3 people will have it.

Enough mortality…lets have some tea and try to forget the problems we all have. I got my husband to pick a sample from my large sampler bag and he pulled out this White Chocolate Grasshopper. I can see the spearmint leaves finely chopped and mixed in with the rooibos and also a few large pieces of white chocolate drops. YUMMY!!! It has a sweet creamy vanilla scent with a touch of mint.

Once steeped the tea is red in colour with a sweet vanilla and refreshing spearmint aroma. It is light, fresh and sweet in taste with creamy and sweet tones. The mint is not as strong as the vanilla and the roobios is nicely dressed up which loses the sweet thickness I usually associate with it. The white chocolate is very subtle but there is something cocoa and earthy there . Smooth, creamy, refreshing, sweet and a very pleasant drink. Spearmint is my favourite mint :)

Drinking this before dinner (which is leek and mushroom pasta bake in cheese sauce with a green broad bean salad – everything made from scratch). Mint settles my stomach before a rich meal and this was the perfect pick.

:/ I’m so sorry to hear that there’s been such a high incidence of cancer in your life. Knock on wood, that’s one thing I’ve thus far avoided, although dementia is what runs in my family, and in some ways, I think cancer may be kinder (not to diminish your/their suffering, mind you, because I haven’t been in that situation yet). I hope things work out…. (I may have missed other relevant tasting notes, if so, my apologies.)

SUPER DUPER THANKS TO AMANDA FOR THIS ONE!!!!
It’s been on my wish list for like a year and a half!!!

It does smell like an adult beverage and after a while it smells like a Grasshopper – The mint is subtle with the creamy and the white chocolate contributes to that. It leaves a lovely refreshing aftertaste.

More more I drink this – I fairly sure I could drink this everyday! YUM!

Oh. My. Frogs. No. Grasshoppers. Great green gorgeous grasshoppers with minty orchids of Madagascan mirth. I think I just drank the secret of happiness.

This tea is perfect from start to finish. The dry leaf radiates the aroma of spearmint and what I’m guessing is honeybush underneath the fruity, complex vanilla bean, even through a plastic bag and sealed envelope. And-is that Tahitian vanilla?! A deep and awkwardly enthusiastic hug of thanks to Meghann M for swapping this with me.

I broke out my Scottish thistle china cup for this one. This grasshopper should feel right at home.
Habit is hard to break, so I steeped three sencha style infusions of four, four, and three ounces water for 8, 10, and fifteen minutes with a scant teaspoon of homemade Indonesian vanilla sugar in each and one chocolate covered cacao nib due to the small number of chips.

It didn’t need the sugar. It didn’t need ANYTHING.
Although the two kinds of vanilla (I’m assuming it’s Tahitian) could be part of why it came out so complex floral, fruity, and satisfying, like watching grasshoppers and spearmint bubblegum ice cream after a weekend of yard work. Or in this case, a warm, sweet cup of tea after hauling the garbage down the snow packed drive way, knowing it came from a new friend. Thanks again, by the way.

I have never spent so long smelling the bottom of my teacup in my life. I don’t know what I’m going to do when my small mint tin of this vanishes. Ooh and it’s tea time again. Where’s that strainer? I think it might still have a whiff left around it…

So… you liked it then? =)

Batrachoid

It is. Oh Buddha IT IS. I never thought my first 100 would go to a non-matcha but here it is! To a rooibos relative! The world makes no sense and I love it!

Batrachoid

@52teas: XD Yeah, just a smidge.

Southern Boy Teas

I’ve been thinking lately of pruning down some of our MySweetHoneybush blends. Maybe I should add this one when I remove a couple of others…

Batrachoid

Please do. I know people prbably request every blend you make to be reblended/ made permenant but this one is really a winner. I would order every month. Seriously.

Tea #4 from Traveling Tea Box C

So. The last time I tried drinking a tea named after a liquored drink, I was sorely disappointed in that it tasted nothing like an Appletini. So here I am with something named after a Grasshopper, which is another tasty drink that a swap of would be awesome, because cross-my-heart I’m not an alcoholic.

I brewed up a cup of this for Fiance and I (Because he asked! My tea clutches are sinking in.) and found that this tea nails a grasshopper surprisingly well. It’s more complex for sure (and obviously not quite the same), but the concept translated really well.

The honeybush (which I just learned I like so much more than rooibos) has a slightly spicy bite, and overall almost almond-y flavor and ends sweet, which ties in well with the creamy sweetness of the chocolate and vanilla smoothness. The mint is bright, but not overwhelming.

I could totally see this making an excellent latte. Or undoing the lack of alcohol by making it a latte with some Godiva White Chocolate Liqueur. That would probably be amazing.

There’s probably enough in the bag yet for 2-3 cups (that I may or may not share with Fiance) so I’m yoinking this out of the box. :)

First, Thank you LiberTEAS for sending me some of this tea and with that said… DANG!!! This is some good stuff. I am so happy I ordered it anyway. I have ordered from Frank 3 times this month and the month isn’t even over yet. I told my husband I have another man in my life and before I could even finish my sentence he said…“Tell Frank I said Hi” we then both cracked up. Nevertheless, this delivers what it promises. I taste the white chocolate, vanilla, and spearmint very well and the flavors dance happily together. The honeybush adds to the flavor profile without taking over which I appreciate the most. Another winner from Frank, way to go!

Um Rachel, not to make your wallet (or hubby lol) feel bad… but it’s only half over… me thinks you (and I and us all) are in trouble.

RachanaC (Rachel)-iHeartTeas

Tell me about it. :-)

Jaime

Cofftea, I’ve been thinking that myself!

Had to let my wife read this one. She got a chuckle out of it too. Said she understands, she loves my tea too.

Ohhh it’s been so long since I’ve had this, and it made it even more enjoyable. Though now I’m sad I’ve not got too much of it left! I’ve found that steeping this until the chocolate chip(s) melt makes it so creamy. I thought it might get too minty from doing that, but it’s perfect.

I want this tea forever!
