Tea of the Week for January 22, 2024!

I don’t currently have a Strawberry tea in my collection & I wanted one! That was my inspiration behind this tea. I wanted a Strawberry tea! It could be that I’m eager for strawberry season. Don’t get me wrong, I love winter! I love cooler weather. But I also love strawberries.

Or – perhaps the reason I found myself wanting a strawberry tea so badly is because I also crafted my very first rhubarb tea this month & these two flavors are often combined – as in Strawberry Rhubarb pie.

No matter the reason, this Strawberry Whip Green Tea is a delight to sip! Crafted using the same recipe for the Pineapple Whip tea (as I’m writing this, we still have some of this tea available here) I took our sweet, buttery Chinese Sencha & blended it with lots of strawberries & some vanilla bean.

It’s creamy & sweet with plenty of luscious strawberry flavor. It’s also organic, vegan, gluten-free, allergen-friendly & all natural!

organic ingredients: green tea, strawberries, vanilla bean & natural flavors

to brew: shake the pouch gently before measuring. Use 3g of tea to 12oz of very hot water (175°F), allow to steep for 2 minutes. Strain & allow to cool for at least 5 minutes before you start sipping!

serving suggestion: I like this one served hot, but it really shines as a chilled tea (try cold-brewing it!) As I’m sitting here, sipping on my taste test sample, it’s hot & it is LOVELY! It doesn’t need any sweetener at all, but I have also tried it with a little bit of sugar (this brought out some of the vanilla notes a bit more). My second sampling I tested with a drizzle of honey & OMG! It’s so good!

I’m a fan of 52teas making more whip teas! The pineapple one was amazing, and this one is delicious too! The balance between light, fresh strawberry flavor and creamy marshmallowy flavor is perfect. I think steeping shorter than 3 minutes is best to eliminate any bitterness. The last cup of it was particularly pillowy, though it does need some sugar to bring out that flavor.

Cold Brew!

I think this is such a fun tea concept and the dry leaf both smells great and looks stunning with the high contrast red berries against the green tea leaf. Brewed up it’s fairly green tea forward, but really smooth in a way that didn’t bother me nearly as much as most green teas do. The strawberry comes through very clearly and has a fresh, bright tartness to it – not too tart, though. The finish is mostly where I noticed that cream note, but it was a little milder than expected. The whole thing has this nostalgic kind of undertone to it like it’s referencing a Campino/Cream Saver but in a much more natural way.
