576 Tasting Notes
I am at home with no loose tea but dealing with health insurance questions so tea is a must! Found this one and decided to go for it. I’m letting it steep as long as possible, out of curiosity. I like strong, bold teas and want to see how chocolate-y this can get. I am triple-dog-daring it to be more chocolate than mint. :)
Preparation
I am totally biased but I love this blend! (In the words of London Tipton, “Yay me!”) I mixed one cup of licorice root with a generous cup of peppermint and the results are perfect. I love how licorice root leaves a sweet aftertaste in your mouth; combined with peppermint it’s awesome.
Another important note – steeping time isn’t important. I was called away from my blend for a few minutes leaving the bag alone and no worries, no bitter taste.
Next I’ll try this blend with spearmint too. :)
Thanks again to Frank for providing the licorice root. I will be back for more. :)
Preparation
May I be so bold as to ask for some of this? I’d love to taste the licorice (or liquorice for London) that’s almost up to 52 teas standards.
…Or is this fully up to standards and a hint at next week’s blend? XD
No, my blend is separate from Frank’s; I just asked him for the licorice to experiment with. I am now trying it with blood orange and spearmint…
I can definitely send you a sample. It’s very basic, though. It’s really good, but really simple.
Oh, and London Tipton is played by the talented Brenda Song on The Suite Life on Deck. Don’t judge me for watching Disney; my favorite movies are Sin City, Shoot Em Up, Reservoir Dogs and Goodfellas. :)
Ah, I wondered if perhaps you were chatting and he offered some the couldn’t use. Do you have any extra of your other blends? My curiousity is starting to overwhelm me.
And I’m as I’m a comic book artist, I really can’t judge. You’re not getting my Anpanman DVDs for all the tea in China ;)
This is my first mate. (I was a mate virgin!) Honestly, I’m not impressed. Mate is very fine in its loose form. I use tea filter bags over an infuser and I’m glad I do because using an infuser with mate would be a big ol’ mess.
On to the taste. Weird. (Wow, so descriptive.) Nutty, toasted. But smooth. A good basic tea base. It reminds me of something and I can’t put my finger on what, but the taste is very familiar. Hearty and woodsy. The aftertaste is nutty, almost like coffee. Maybe it reminds me of weak coffee? There is a sweet smell to it as well…weak but sweet coffee, that’s what I bid. Kind of like free coffee you get while waiting for a service: car repair, real estate, insurance.
I got this as a sample and I don’t think I’d buy it again. No offense, maybe it’s my mate ignorance, but I don’t drink tea just to drink tea. I enjoy the flavors, the aroma, the experience. This one just didn’t thrill me.
I’ve had bad mate luck lately too. I have one lemongrass green mate if you’d like to try some. SpecialTeas Green Mate Fiesta.
I didn’t do well with mate either. I like the mate flavor in Raspberry Riot Lemon Mate, but I think the flavor is more the Raspberry than anything else. I have some citrus mate and Mocha nut mate from adagio if you care to sample those. They were alright, but I could still the mate roasty flavor I didn’t like.
With this fixed version I am in love! I am on my second cup of it; surprisingly it can be resteeped, just once, but hey, that’s better than nothing. I love the subtle smoky aftertaste. The original version was still decent but this one is off the charts, said the creator, modestly. :)
I really enjoyed the simplicity of this tea – simply cinnamon and simply delicious! I usually add a packet or two of Splenda to my tea, but with this one is sweet on its own. It smells soft and buttery too, which is a nice touch.
This is a hearty breakfast tea too – perfect to get the day rolling. Hence the name cinnamon roll, eh? Please ignore my awful puns but do enjoy this wonderful tea!
I fixed this tea on Adagio by using just 10 percent of the smoky Lapsang Souchong and the remaining 90 percent split between vanilla oolong and cream black tea. I LOVE how this one turned out! It’s bold, strong, and in-your-face vanilla/cream with a smoky aftertaste, just like a toasted marshmallow.
The original blend was good, but I’m not a big fan of Lapsang Souchong apparently. A subtle smoky flavor – like a marshmallow fresh from the fire – works perfectly. YUM!
One thing – don’t drink before bed or you’ll be wired. :)
