2023 An Ode to Tea – K
Age has blanded this terribly. Shame. Not a sipdown yet, even considering not even steeping this one again and just throwing it away (gasp). Even sadder that I gave this a rating of 96!
From my gifted box set. I needed a mint tea yesterday for a headache. So I thought I’d try a new mint tea! It seems there is plenty of mint with this green tea, proportion wise. And it does what it says in the name. It’s green tea. It’s mint. It’s fine! It tastes a little bit catnip-like though, which is odd if this is a fresher mint than all those ancient mint teas I’m usually drinking.
Steep #1 // 30 minutes after boiling // 1 minute steep
Steep #2 // 30 minutes after boiling // 3 min
I took a break yesterday from the alphabet challenge to try two teas new to me. Again, I always wanted to try T2’s breakfast teas so I’m very grateful for MiepSteep sending a couple over to try! This one gets quite the high steepster rating! Honestly, I might like the NY breakfast better. This one seems to be plain vanilla and the vanilla seems a little artificial to me. But it at least isn’t a faint tasting vanilla. The black tea is fine. Nothing special. But then the second steep is fairly faint flavored. I might be an outlier here, but I think the NY Breakfast has more nuance. I love vanilla flavored things, but I think I’m learning that I’m picky about vanilla.
Steep #1 // 20 minutes after boiling // 1 minute steep
Steep #2 // just boiled // 3 min
2023 An Ode to Tea – H
The letter ‘H’ is another where I have nothing close to a sipdown, so here is one I haven’t written a note for, from Meowster. Thank you! After the first steep, the little slice of cake Meowster parceled out is hardly unraveled. But that means the flavor is hardly overdone yet, which is a problem I have with raw puerh. But it’s also difficult to tell what those flavors ARE. It’s raw puerh with no negative characteristics. And also never acquires that overdone flavor. Good enough!
Steep #1 // 40 minutes after boiling // 45 second steep
Steep #2 // 35 minutes after boiling // 45 second steep
Steep #3 // 30 min after boiling // 1 minute steep
2023 An Ode to Tea – G
Finishing one pouch of this classic. I feel like golden teas must be overleafed the older they get. So I just dumped the remainder of these leaves in the infuser. I forgot they are so unique looking! Delicious, but again, I have noticed that golden teas lose a massive amount of flavor when they age.

Ashmanra’s sipdown challenge – March 2023 Tea #1 – March 2 – International Irish Whiskey Day
In thinking of boozy teas, I thought of two: this one and O’connor’s Cream. So I went with this one for the day! I already miss Angry Tea Room. Not sure how close this is to alcohol, but it’s a unique blend I liked so much that I bought a full pouch of. Reading the description again, it says it was named after Sue who liked bourbon? But also made gingersnap cookies? If anything, this is a good chocolate tea imo.
2023 An Ode to Tea – F
I didn’t feel like finishing any of my ‘F’ teas so here is one I never wrote a note for. From JakeB a long long time ago. Thank you! This poor neglected green! The leaves look so high quality and gorgeous! They couldn’t be longer! The color is very light green in spots, almost white. The scent of the dry leaf is like a candy strawberry. The flavor is great— creamed corn. The second steep is also delicious. I bet it was amazing when it was fresh. I’m still enjoying it now anyway.
Steep #1 // 2 teaspoons for a full mug // 31 minutes after boiling // 1 minute steep
Steep #2 // 28 minutes after boiling // 2-3 min
I love the detail on this review. *lighthearted sarcasm :)
Yes, I’m aware… normally wouldn’t post such a useless tasting note, but it’s a sipdown and also part of the alphabet challenge. :D
