6444 Tasting Notes
Having remembered to pick up milk today, the second bag of Vanilla Comoro was calling my name and asking to be made into a latte. Honestly, just a touch of milk and this becomes a whole different drink. The taste finally reflects its delicious vanilla frosting-esque smell. It is creamy and sweet and velvety smooth. AMAZING! Thank you Cavocorax! Alas, this cup means I have used up both bags, making this a sipdown and me sad to see it go.
Preparation
Today is cold, very cold. In the past, this would not be an issue but a side effect of losing 55 pounds is you tend to feel the cold weather just a little bit more. I tend to forget that so when I ventured out this afternoon with no gloves, no hat, and my fall coat I froze the whole way to the post office. That would have been fine if it had not been for that fact that when I gave them the parcel pick up card they told me they didn’t have my package and I would need to come back Monday. So back home I went, empty-handed and cold but excited to try the many teas I have received from many wonderful Steepsterites (Steepsters?).
Unfortunately, my tea tasting has not been fully successful, as you may have already read. Though some were great, others that I were so excited about turned out to be huge disappointments. So after the let down of Toasted Marshmallow and the horrid experience with Ice Cream Cake, I decided on this cold evening I would make myself comfort and turn to some favorites to make me happy.
So, while it snows outside, I have cozied up in bed, decked out in my Roots sweatpants and sweatshirt. Supernatural playing on my Netflix. Bag of baby carrots to snack on. And a timolino full of Sugar and Spice to sip.
This tea always hits the spot. I know many were not fans but to me this smells and taste just like a delicious spice cake. Just the right touch of cinnamon and cloves to compliment the sweetness of the apples and carrots. It never fails to be warming when the temperature outside may not be so kind. Definitely glad to have stocked up on this one.
Preparation
…I currently happen to be watching Season 8 of Supernatural on Netflix and eating baby carrots and mozza sticks. Odd.
hahaha I guess Baby Carrots are the snack of choice for Supernatural? Mozza Sticks sound amazing but I doubt they would be Jenny-approved (a prerequisite for my snacks since I started doing Jenny Craig in April). I am watching from Season 1 again because as much as I love the show in general, sometimes I miss the older episodes that were more focused on each episode and the hunt as opposed to the overarching theme of the season.
Cavocorax sent this my way and it is definitely a tasty treat to sip on while I procrastinate and watch Supernatural.
When I first took a sip, I recalled there was caramel and vanilla and was sorta confused as there was a different taste in there that was neither caramel or vanilla and it did not taste like tea. It was not a bad taste, just confusing. Then I looked at the ingredients and realized I was picking up some of the citrus from the bergamot. That is the flavor that I am finding most noticeable but it manages to stay away from Earl Grey territory (not that I mind Earl Grey) because it blends with the vanilla and caramel notes to have a different flavor profile. It is lemon-y, and vanilla-y sweet with a nice touch of caramel flavoring. I do wish there could be a bit more vanilla and caramel for a sweeter/less citrus-y tea but I suppose that could be corrected by anyone willing to add sweetener to their cup. All in all, a very delicious cup of tea :) Thanks again Cavocorax!
Preparation
I am actually fully caught up but I am a little in love with Dean so I like to rewatch older episodes. Usually I just record whatever episode they play on TV and watch that but I just realized they added the show to Netflix so now I might be marathoning the show from episode one. haha.
I started watching right after I moved to Saskatoon (about three months ago) and am on Season 8 now… About a third of the way through. My roommate got me really into it.
Eeekkk, Sorry to butt in, I saw Supernatural mentioned on the Explore feed and I just had to stop by and fangirl a moment.
I started watching SPN in season 7 and have recently (thanks to Netflix) starting watching it from the very beginning, currently in season 2.
I started watching last year around this time which was a pretty bad choice given I was nearing exams and when I like a show I tend to marathon it until I am fully caught up (which was 7 seasons to get through). I ended up taking about a month because I did need to make time for studying and exams and life. haha. I think that is part of the reason why I chose to watch Supernatural tonight and not start a completely new show like Doctor Who or Breaking Bad or another of the awesome series they have on Netflix now. At least this way it won’t be so hard to stop watching because I know all the episodes and what happens.
And don’t worry about butting in Hesper June. I definitely understand the urge to join conversations about Supernatural.
Another from Cavocorax and I am definitely glad I started with the Cookies and Cream because this was a bit of a let down. I had been thinking about it since I made my last cup of matcha – I figured since all the other flavors have been spot on, this would be a cup of creamy chocolate deliciousness.
Alas, I could not find any chocolate at all. This was a sweet and tasty matcha but I would never in a million years have guessed it was chocolate. I am still enjoying the cup but it was not what I was expecting. Thank you Cavocorax!
i only really like this one as an add in to other concoctions…otherwise there’s something about the taste i’m not fond of
I didn’t think it tasted bad, I just didn’t think it tasted like chocolate either which was quite the disappointment. In my mind I would be having a delicious hot chocolate-esque latte and instead I just got sweet matcha. Not bad, but also not what I was looking for – guess I should have just gone with Cocoa Canela.
This is another tea I picked up from a stash sale and I am really not impressed. The smell of the dry leaf had me worried because it almost smelled like white cheddar popcorn powder – a very tasty flavor on salty snacks but definitely not something you would want in a tea. Steeped, the cheese flavor was gone but there was a stale waffle sort of scent. So right of the bat I was worried but since DAVIDs teas don’t always taste the way they smell I thought I would try it anyways.
Taste wise this also tastes stale. And just not good. This got dumped down the drain fast. And then I promptly had to drink half a bottle of water just to get the taste out of my mouth. Perhaps this was a bad batch but if this is what their tea was meant to taste like I am definitely glad I listened to my mom and bought the 100 g of chocolate cake instead when I had the opportunity to buy this. What little I have left is going into the swap box because I don’t want any of this ever again. Glad I tried it though, otherwise I would have always wondered if I made the right choice when I decided to forgo purchasing this before it was no longer available.
Preparation
While looking through the box Cavocorax sent me, I zeroed in on the matchas and tried to decide which of the 5 flavors would make a good latte. Problem was they all sounded good but I managed to narrow my choices to Cookies & Cream or Belgium Chocolate. Obviously, I ended up going with Cookies & Cream and it was the right choice.
Dry, this smells just like an oreo cookie. Steeped you can smell a little bit of the matcha but flavor wise it was all oreo cookie. It was actually so good plain that I debated about even putting the milk in. It tasted fudgey like the cookie part but the texture was creamy like the center. However, I could not resist trying this with milk and that ended up making it that much better. Plain this leans toward just the cookie part of an oreo with a hint of the center cream but with milk it tastes just like a liquefied oreo and it is amazing! There is even a bit of matcha at the end of the sip that helps round out this cup. Very, very delicious indeed! Thanks Cavocorax!!
I bought some of this from Janelle and though I am glad I got to try it, I am quite disappointed in the taste. It smelled deliciously cinnamon-y but the taste was closer to a sweet and not-so-great chai. I am definitely not getting any marshmallow despite seeing so many in the blend. I think I will finish what I have but I don’t think I will be missing it when it is gone. Thank you Janelle for sending this my way.
Preparation
This came to me from Cavocorax and I am really glad it did. I had been reading so many positive things about it lately that I am super happy she sent me some to try. This tea smelled fruity and delicious. Luckily, that translates into the tea. Often times I find that teas with berries tend to be a bit sour/tart but this tea manages to taste like berries while still remaining sweet. I can also see where the idea of sponge cake comes from as there is a nice cake-yness to this tea. Though I am not completely blown away by this tea, I do think it is a very nice cup and am happy I have more of this tea to enjoy in the future. Thank you Cavocorax!
ETA: Resteeped this loses a fair bit of its flavor. It still has a subtle berry taste but it is falling a bit flat. I will finish the cup but I think these leaves are done.
Preparation
This is the last of the four different flavored matchas that Sil sent me to try. I have put off tasting it until I got milk because I thought a vanilla matcha latte sounded amazing. Thank god I waited. Made in just water, I really only tasted the matcha despite the amazing vanilla scent. Luckily with a bit of milk, the vanilla flavor was able to shine through making for a deliciously smooth and silky vanilla matcha latte. Yum! Thank you Sil!
Thank you Cavocorax for the sample of this tea. I am a fan of Mulberry Magic and so many people say that the two are very similar but Mulberry Magic is better so I never even thought about trying this one. I am very glad you sent me some though because I definitely would have been missing out if I never had a sip. This is definitely similar to Mulberry Magic except it is a bit sweeter (not super sweet like many have led me to believe it would be) and deliciously creamy. On top of all that yumminess, this tea actually tastes like pistachios which is always a nice reminder of my grandparents who used to feed me pistachios when I was younger.
The only downside to this tea is it was so good that it is already gone (Sipdown!) and since it is not a part of the permanent collection there is no more Pistachio Cream for me. Well Cavocorax, I don’t know if I should thank you for sending me the sample of this delectable tea or be mad at you for getting me hooked on something I can’t have. Luckily I still have Mulberry Magic to (sorta) fill the Pistachio Cream void my collection now has. Thank you Cavocorax for introducing me to such a delicious tea.
Preparation
I preferred Mulberry Magic because I like the Mulberry more than the Pistachio, but if you want more Pistachio, keep in mind Butiki’s Pistachio Ice Cream.
From her website: [It} has an Organic Mao Jian base with generous amounts of roasted pistachios and a dash of lotus stamens. The sweet roasted pistachio flavor is immediately noticed followed by prominent notes of heavy cream. Light notes of vanilla can also be distinguished. Add some sugar to turn this smooth full-bodied tea into a dessert treat that resembles pistachio ice cream.
You mentioned this tea again recently and it reminded me – have you seen this: http://www.davidstea.com/pistachio-cream-250g?&TF=27F5948F6518&DEID=
Of course, for that much you better love it!
OMG CAVO I LOVE YOU!!! But now I am torn because I just bought 200 g and do I really need that much more!?!? Something to ponder… Thank you so much!!
It probably won’t sell out that quickly – some of those blends have been there for months. :) But just keep an eye on the web specials page as they add/remove teas without warning.
I’m glad you liked it after all.
too bad I only realized that once it was gone
I’ve found this at Chapters a few times now, thanks to (I think?) OMGsrsly’s suggestion. I actually debated buying it just remembering your first review of it, and grabbed a book instead. ;)
