126 Tasting Notes
Had this this morning while the kids were getting ready for school. Jasmine green tea is always calming and soothing for me. Good way to start a Monday morning. As always, yum. This one lasted through three steepings! And I always love watching the pearls unfurling. Super light color, always sweet, and a heavenly aroma.
The outside of the box smells like chocolate, when you open it, it smells like walking into a cigar shop, a tad sweet.
The taste is clean, no bitterness. Smells of toffee, chocolate, and that cigar shop smell. Just lovely. And it’s dark, but caffeine free. The taste changes, you can get a coffee-ish taste, then a sweet taste hits your tongue, and you get the chocolate and toffee. And you can still taste the mate, it mixes well with the other flavors.
Okay I went on a tea shopping binge at Cost Plus World Market (one of my fave stores) and picked this up, along with 4 others! I haven’t been to Cost Plus in months, they have really expanded their tea collection, they even have loose leaf in foil bags! There are a few others I had my eye on, but my arms were full, I’ll have to pick them up next time.
Anyway, now that I drink this tea, I remember from long ago, I think this was the very first green tea I had, because I remember the powder floating out of the tin when I opened it. It reminds me of why I fell in love with green tea! The grassy taste, the beautiful green color, semi-opaque, it even frothed when I wisked it some! The taste is so clean and creamy at the same time, it is a very nice cup to sip! Not true matcha, because it has some green tea leaves also, but not a bad substitute and it’s bagged, so it’s portable. I can totally see me having this after lunch at work to get me through the rest of the day.
Matcha in a bag really bothers me personally lol:) If I want to decant my tea, but still want something matcha-ish I’ll stick w/ mecha. Mine is loose, but you could totally put it in a filter.
I knew it would bother you! :-) But the Japanese market was closed today until Wednesday, and I was out of green tea, and I was just so so happy to find something. I think, at least for me, it’s good that it’s bagged, because I am clumsy and I tend to make a mess with powder anything-matcha, hot chocolate, sugar, all of it. But I tell ya, the matcha really makes a big appearance here in this cup.
Yeah, I’ve found making matcha when you’re sick isn’t easy, one sneeze and it’s gone lol. Better to have someone make it for you then or go this way:) Just out of curiosity, what’s the weight of one of those bags?
Looks like potpourri in the canister. Orange peel bits, flowers, bits of I don’t know what. Makes a beautiful red liquor. Smells like sour cherry. All I taste is hibiscus, and a little orange. I don’t even taste any tea, but I know it’s in there, I saw the leaves. I love hibiscus, but if I wanted hibiscus tea, I would drink Passion tea from Tazo. Maybe if I relabel the canister and come back to it later, I can trick myself thinking it’s hibiscus and enjoy it.
I was waiting to try this one from the Christmas sampler pack. Sounded good, but no. It smells and tastes like I mixed my black tea with flat Sprite. The aroma is nice, reminds me of pie :-), but the taste is almost non-existent.
This makes me sad- Key lime makes me think of my grandma so I was hoping this’d be good. But then again if it’s too strong it’d be like hot lime juice and that’d burn my throat.
Your poor throat! I was disappointed by this too, I love lime. If it helps any, now I have this limey aftertaste in my throat, not as fun as it sounds.
I just wonder if I’m missing something with this tea…. Well, I still have a few bags left, so we’ll see how it goes.
Also, weigh your bag. It may be insanely light. I’ve had bags ~1.4g when I like my cuppa 2.25g/6oz water. I never thought about that til someone actually did it and stated the weight in their tasting note.
No problem:) Bagged teas are convenient, but even if the tea is very good quality (some aren’t), I still prefer to steep loose or at least fill my own bags because then leaf amount is another parameter I can control.
I’ve been wanting to fill my own bags, and finally there was someone at the coffee shop that told me where they get their bags from so I can order, but then she sold me a tea ball! So I’m going to try that out and see how the mess is. But that tea sampler I got for Christmas was too good a deal to pass up, 12 different flavors, 8 bags each, all for $10. I figure there are some I won’t like and it’s not a complete waste.
What? No way! I’ve never seen big sampler packs at Adagio for that price? No wait, the tea sampler pack was $10, American. :-) I thought it was a decent price since I went to the website and they were selling it for $15 there.
Oops, my mistake $3 even not $3.75. Although I wouldn’t suggest making that your entire order- paying more for shipping than your order wouldn’t make sense lol.:)
Again oops, I meant they sell fillable bags for 100/$3, not sampler packs. Although a lot of their individual sample tins are $2.
I did see that, my birthday is coming up and I think I am going to make it a tea birthday! Gifts from Adagio, Lupicia, Teavana (because it’s local) and Zen Tara!
Earl Grey in green tea? Never had it before, I was intrigued!
Chinese green tea, very strong bergamot. I love the scent, and the taste is very zingy-citrus, something gingery, and a hint of floral. Earl Grey is one of my favorites, but I usually have it black. Loving this Earl Grey Green combo because I feel I can taste the bergamot for itself, the green tea doesn’t overpower. It’s more like bergamot with tea, not tea with bergamot.
This one is yum!
This one caught my eye yesterday as I was ordering my other tea at the coffee shop, so I got it today.
Black, sweet, a little grassy tasting, a little chocolatey tasting (dark chocolate, not milk). I want to try it next time with sugar. Smells very earthy, if that makes sense.
Not bad, it didn’t really stand out to me. But I’m willing to try it again.
Loose leaf tea to go from the local coffee house. Yum! Deceiving looks with its beautiful golden brown color, pleasant mild aroma. Then the taste hits you; strong, but not too bitter. I tasted a hint of caramel in it, and it finished nicely, with very little aftertaste. I didn’t try it with any sweetener, I needed bold this morning.
Second flavor my son and I wanted to try out of the sampler pack. This one had a strong blueberry scent, he could smell it when I brought it into the room! And the taste is light, not too sweet, but sweet enough. The aftertaste was interesting, very strong blueberry finish, like I ate a blueberry. I think this one is a keeper, and we’re going to try it cold as well.
