Sipdown! It was meant to be.
This tea was absolutely delicious. I had this HUGE tin, and I had swapped away some samples. But other than that, I had it ALL TO MYSELF! This was such a treat drinking this every morning. This is bittersweet, and I will miss you so much Caramel! I must move on as there are other teas waiting for me to try!
Sipdown! I made this iced last week, and that was probably the biggest mistake EVER! I had left a bag of citrus mate steeping in cool water for a few hours and saw that the liquid was getting a honey brown color so I removed it. I let it cool in the fridge overnight. The next morning I tried it and it was EXTREMELY bitter. Like medicinal bitter. Like I crushed up ibuprofen and drank it. UGH!
SO, today I had just a tiny bit left of leaf so I tried it hot. I steeped it for 45 seconds. Ahh… much better. It has the citrus scent to it; though I have had this tea for years! This thing is OLD. It isn’t as flavorful as it once was, but I am not a huge mate fan to begin with. I had only enjoyed Guayaki’s yerba mates in the past (and as a side note, I am not even sure if I would like it as much today as I did then).
Funny how tastes change through time right?
Breakfast is getting so much easier now that my 13 month old daughter has been adamant about feeding herself messily with a spoon! I can enjoy a cup of tea every morning while she eats her yogurt.
I had opened this up last night and enjoyed it so much that I had it again this morning. I made this with just milk! I heated the milk and added 1.5 heaping teaspoons of caramel matcha and 1 teaspoon of sugar. MmmMmmMmmmmm! The light green frothy brew was delicious. The caramel and orange come through in a gentle manner. The creaminess and sweetness add to this delicious breakfast. Again… dessert for breakfast? I can’t argue with that! I love this tea. I have to make this matcha with just plain hot water next time. I am sure it tastes equally good!
Flavors: Caramel, Creamy, Orange
I was sifting through my sample basket and found this one! I used it up today. This is very different from the puerh that I had reviewed the day before. This one is deeper and more complex. This one was not very loose so I had to rinse it out a little. The dry leaf smells very earthy and dark, which is interesting and good to me! The first steep was a light-medium brown, and the taste was very light and slightly earthy and mulchy and mushroom-like (I could not have thought of this until I read toadman’s review, which is spot on!). I love how it became darker, thicker, and deeper in flavor and texture as I moved along with the steeps. I steeped this only 3 times, so I cannot say how it is after that. The flavor is bolder and earthy and almost like iron. There is only a slight astringency and small amount of bite after each sip, which is surprising for a tea this thick and strong! Delicious tea!
