58 Tasting Notes
Treated myself to a pot of this since it’s the weekend and mid-way through realized Biden won the presidency! A bunch of people in my apartment complex started screaming in celebration off their balconies. I didn’t join in, but it made me happy to see and hear so many people feel the same way. :)
It’s been a while since I’ve had this tea, and I love my cheaper replacement, but this is just so good. Nothing compares! Jasmine scent is so strong and light at the same time, and the tea is perfectly smooth.
I actually got more good news – my girlfriend will be in the same neighborhood as yellow mountain tea house (where this tea is from) today while she’s out with her sister. And, she said she’ll pick me up some tea if I send her my order! The question now becomes: do I spent too much money on tea? Or, do I spend waaay too much money on tea? :)
Flavors: Jasmine, Tea
Preparation
Having a FANTASTIC friday thanks to Georgia, Pennsylvania, Arizon & Nevada (so far). I left this tea over-steeping for at least 10 minutes and it’s not even bitter – I don’t know what kind of witchcraft this is, but I’m here for it!
Preparation
YAY Pennsylvania this morning! Rah-rah-rah! (shakes pom-pom)
I haven’t tried this tea, but it’s a blend of Chinese black teas, where bitterness isn’t usually an issue. One of the reasons they’re some of my favorite teas! :)
I can believe this morning was very nice to you all! I was nervously watching it during afternoon here and seeing two flips was so good!
This is my new go-to morning tea. It gets really bitter if I oversteep it, but the jasmine smell is always perfect. I just realized that Steepster seems to allow some text formatting, so I’m going to use this post to test it out.
So far, I know putting an asterisk before and after a word makes it bold
Update: not sure of what allowed text formatting there is besides bold and italics aside from hack-y html injections that messed stuff up!
Flavors: Jasmine, Tea
Preparation
There’s a page here: http://steepster.com/discuss/1894-how-to-use-text-formatting-symbols-formatting-can-be-fun — but I’m not sure how updated it is. :)
I haven’t gotten those to work, but it’s interesting that they used to! I bet steepster changed how it’s formatted
That’s weird! I’ve been using the italics and bold without any issues. How bizarre! But I’ll have to look into the ones you have here too. :)
As far as the html stuff, that’s not really “allowing text formatting” as much as not protecting against html injection, and seems like more of a security misstep.
Yes lol agreed, couldn’t figure out the allowed text formatting beyond italics and bold so moved on to more visually satisfying methods
I’ve been wanting to try Genmai-cha. This is a box I got at the Korean grocery store, H-mart. “Genmai-cha Green Tea with Roasted Rice”. I was actually a little nervous after smelling the bag. The roasted rice is not a joke! I wasn’t sure how i’d like it in tea, but I’d say it’s pleasant overall. I expected more vegetal green tea flavor though. All I really notice is the roasted rice smell and taste – which is nice, just not as complex as i was expecting. Will definitely drink it again and see how i like it. Not bad for what was probably around $3 for a box of tea bags.
Flavors: Toasted Rice
Preparation
Nice – very minty, doesn’t completely overpower the green tea. I’m a fan of mint in general and the flavor on this one seems different and better than others I’ve tried somehow. That’s all I’ll say for now, cause I’ve been writing about tea enough this morning!
Flavors: Mint, Tea
Preparation
A sample sachet of this came with my last order from H&S. I’ve never tried and kind of sencha before. I was taken aback by how vegetal this one smelled! It reminds me of creamed corn – a little scary to be honest. And, this green tea actually came out green rather than yellow.. I’m in uncharted territory! Reviewing this is tricky because i’m too busy being suprised at how different it is to really pay attention to how it tastes or how much I like it. It’s crazy bitter, though. Very sharp.
Update – nope, I hate it. Hahaha. I respect how different it is but I have to be honest with what my taste buds are actually telling me. After the Chinese flower, this one is killing me with the bitterness and strong sweet-vegetable smell. I love that it does have flavor, but I’ll pass on this one for now.
Flavors: Bitter, Vegetal
Preparation
Vegetal is definitely the word for Japanese green teas. Next time (if there is one) I would use a lower temperature and shorter time. It looks like Harney & Sons recommends 160° for this one.
I grabbed a tagalong tin of this from Harney & Sons when I bought the Queen Catherine. Trying to branch out from Jasmine green teas to see if I like any other flavored green teas. The sachets are beautiful – hot pink and blue petals with orange skin pieces and green tea. Smells very bright. After brewing, the color was a slightly cloudy light yellow. In the tea itself, I smell mostly citrus, especially lemon. It isn’t bitter at all (I almost wish it was a little) and tastes more fruity & bright than anything else to me. Might be brewing it too weak, but not my favorite! Will of course give it another shot later especially since it’s so pretty.
Flavors: Lemon, Orange
Preparation
Wow.. I am confused by this tea, haha. It doesn’t seem bitter.. at all? But it still tastes like black tea..? This is good – glad I bought it after Martin’s glowing review. This is one I can definitely see adding to my morning routine. I made it a little too weak, I think, so just rating it 80 now, but will come back to this tea later. I can see this becoming a new favorite!
Flavors: Honey, Smooth
Preparation
Picked this up on a trip to the Korean grocery store. I spent way too much money (on mostly random snacks and desserts, but I have no regrets!) I got a cute little tea pot and tea cup set too. Anyway!
This tea has the perfect jasmine aroma. The green tea is fine, a lot more bitter than the pearls I’ve had but good nonetheless! Goes very nicely with the smell of the jasmine. I’m happy to have found a cheaper jasmine tea I can have on a daily basis! :D
Flavors: Bitter, Jasmine, Tea
Preparation
This is one of my favorite black teas from a sampler my girlfriend got me for my anniversary. After steeping for 3 minutes, it’s like an orange tourmaline in color. Very pretty. Not what I would think of for my usual black teas, though. I like this one a lot because it’s not really bitter at all, just a little astringent. The flavor reminds me of honey (without all the sweetness) but that might just be an association! I’m not sure what makes an orange pekoe different from any other black tea, but I’m a fan of this one regardless!
Oh, and Happy Halloween! :D
Flavors: Astringent, Honey, Tea
There is never “too much tea” nor in spending! Haha!
“Too much money” is always relative when it comes to tea. :)
