71 Tasting Notes
Had this one again this morning, and I’m lowering the rating a bit. It seems I was a bit overzealous in my first review. Or maybe I had just been deprived a good breakfast tea for so long I forgot what they were supposed to taste like. In any case, in between my first cup and this one, I had New Zealand Breakfast, and this one doesn’t even compare. It is a malty, full-feeling black tea blend, but it’s just not on the same standard at the NZ Breakfast. It’s nice, though. So I won’t lower it too much.
Backlog: I had this tea a couple of nights ago after a particularly stressful afternoon. The smell dry is LOVELY! Steeped, there’s a bit of funky smell, but upon tasting, it is not evident in the brew. Very nice! The mellow menthol is just right, and it blends wonderfully with the other flavors. It isn’t my favorite tea, but it is pretty good.
Preparation
I finally got some more of this in a round robin, and a dear friend is sending me some loose leaf of this as well! Yay! Even though I oversteeped and accidentally added too much milk, it’s still delicious! Super smooth, malty, and some bright sweetness- love!
Preparation
I don’t think it is. I’m getting mine from a friend who has a sister in NZ, I believe, and from a round robin in a knitting group on Ravelry. When the round robin went around the first time, I took a couple of the bags of this, as it sounded yummy and unusual. When it came around the second time, with MORE NZ tea added, I snagged a couple more and sent out a message to the group, begging the owner of the NZ tea to ‘hook me up’ with her source. lol
If sources still aren’t plentiful in a couple months, I’d be happy to help out. Apologies that I can’t stick my hand up immediately :(
First sip- YUM! I added a tiny bit of sugar and a dab of milk, as I do with all my bold breakfast teas. I’m getting a nice malty, smooth, and full mouthfeel. lots of body, and a bright note. This is instantly one of my favorites for a breakfast tea. There’s no bitterness, and no real astringency, so it’s an all around good cuppa.
Preparation
I’m getting sick, and so this tea comes out in my search for something, anything, to help with my throat! I remember exactly why I love this tea when I open the packet, and I can barely wait as I’m putting on the kettle and then subsequently waiting for the steep. I got a little sidetracked after putting it in to steep though, and left it probably 10 minutes or so. Even with such a long steep, it’s wonderful! The strong citrus smell is almost exactly what you taste when you sip it. And all that vitamin C will surely help with fighting off whatever this is I’ve got. Also, the Chado website suggests that it will help with depression and chronic headaches. I’m hoping it will get me out this funk I’m in, regardless.
Preparation
Dry, this smells like Spiced Apple Rings, which I LOVE. Once it’s brewing, it smells like sweet hot apple cider. But once I tasted it, it tasted like neither. In fact, it didn’t really taste like anything. Very weak. I added a bit of sugar and that brought out the flavors a bit. I needed the chamomile for a cold I’m developing, and thought this would be a good tea for that. It’s ok once you add sweetener to it. Maybe I added too much water to the steep?
Preparation
This one is a nice under the weather tea, as others have mentioned. I feel a cold coming on, the throat scratchiness and all, so this was definitely a good choice. Not the ‘lemon zinger’ I was expecting, though, which is a PLUS. I like lemon teas, and this one is a great choice. Very bright, with a delicate, light taste, with just a hint of good tartness. Love the pinkish color too.
Preparation
Being a pretty diehard fan of anything chai, I was disappointed by this offering. I found it to be weak, and the spiciness that I love so much was not all that prevalent in this one. I normally like Bigelow pretty well, though, so I’m not too put off. Maybe next time I’ll try a longer steep or less water. We’ll see!
Preparation
So this is really yummy! I’m never disappointed by Twinings. They totally hold up to my expectations, which are pretty high in some cases. This tea is like marzipan in a cup! It’s very chai-y, and you can really taste the almond in this one. It’s really nice. Not too spicy, just enough. And the almond is naturally sweet, too. It’s really good! I can’t believe I’m the first to review it, actually!
