36 Tasting Notes
Well I needed a little something warm and caffeine free since I’ve been drinking blacks all day. Its snowing outside and is perfect tea weather. Unfortunately I did not like this at all- not the smell nor the taste..way to sweet and just not right on my tongue I guess. I was surprised so I opened up my only other rooibos sample (thank God) and the result was…YUCK! This one was worse than the caramel! I guess this girl ain’t doing anymore of those rooibos teas!!! Oh well u can’t blame a girl for trying.
Preparation
Another high score for MTC! This is a very nice smooth black with some malty notes and a sort of oak like taste. It is very good, but yet another one I would only steep once.(I guess all my blacks have come to that)Definitely a competitor in my cupboard of new black teas! Yea!
Preparation
Yay! I haven’t tried that one yet. Glad you liked it! Do you think it’s stronger than english breakfast?
Well more astonishing things have happened but I dont know, this tea just made it to be my second but equal #1 favorite daily morning top blacks I’ve ever had!! Its sooooo delicious! The brew comes out darker and stronger looking than it is in taste. It has none of that bite or bitterness you sometimes find in blacks. It is a medium robust mouthful that goes down so sensually and smooth. There’s a definite sweetness and lingering fruit taste that stays with you til your next sip. This one’s gonna be a hard one to top for me even by my beloved golden spring that Ive been drinking and loving daily for over a year now! WOAH Nelly! I know!! Who the hell is Nelly anyway? I can’t find anything wrong with this tea aside from the fact that I don’t grow it in my backyard, but my dogs would probably pee on it so that would not be cool. What can I say but I AM IN LOVE!
Preparation
Hahaha, this was a question at bar trivia one night. If memory serves, Nellie was the name of someone’s horse on a TV show that’s older than I am [can’t remember which one]. Or maybe it was in a movie. Anyhow, the character would say “Whoa, Nellie!” and for whatever reason it was absorbed by the masses.
I think I’m definitely having a black tea fetish today! :) These pearls are not earth shattering at all but defintely earthy tasting. I can taste the cocoa notes for sure but the dirty earthiness flavors kind of overpowers it for me. Glad I only have a sample of this. Not a very high rating from me on this one. I knew I didnt have an affinity for BALLS!! ;) haha. My gf is happy about this.
Preparation
It’s interesting that you could taste “dirty earthiness”. I love this tea (as much as I could love any non chai black lol) and “dirty earthiness” would make me gag. How many balls and how much water did you use? I’ve only had this once… makes me want to revisit it.:)
HAAAAAAAAAA! That one deserves a zing! for sure. Welcome to our little clan of Black Dragon double entendre-ing.
Wow! This tea just hit the spot. Another new one from Metropolitan Tea Co. and I love it!!! Nooooo astringency or bitterness at all! So nice and smooth -this tea might just give my fave Golden Spring a run for its money!! One of the best black teas Ive ever had…I put milk and sugar in it and it did the rest on its own. Ohhh my new love. FAB!
Preparation
Very nice blend of black teas. This is my first time trying it and its a win! Next time I need to use a little more leaf so its a bit stronger but the taste is nice with a little sweetner and milk its gonna be another one of my morning wake me ups I have a feeling. Nice medium robustness and elegant in its own way too. Thanks AmyB! :)
Preparation
OMG! I did not expect to like this as much as I do! YUMMMMM! This is my first time with an herbal and man is this a winner!!! It smells so delicious and honey-like and really gives me a nice sense of calm. Great stress buster tea for sure! What can I say? I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE this tea!!
Preparation
My fiance loves the honey vanilla chamomile bags. I’m thinking of getting him some vanilla bean chamomile and Republic of Tea’s vanilla bean honey.
How good is herbal loose leaf like chamomile? It tastes pretty much a million times better than anything bagged. It almost has an apple-like taste.
Yeah, I may have gone a teeny weenie bit overboard about this tea cuz its the ONLY herbal I like, BUT I need to find some different ways to flavor it besides honey cuz I’m a little bored with that after having it every night for 2 weeks! And of course my gf talked me into buying the biggest amount they have at Adagio so I have a friggin shitload of this stuff in our cupboard now!!! YIKES!
WOW! Holy Cinnamon smell! This tea smells just like those red disc candies that I used to like. I got this as a sample thank God, cuz Im not too impressed with it. I mixed it with some of my Cream tea sample from Adagio as well to try and tone it down a bit. I topped it off with reddi whip cuz it just seemed appropriate on these flavor teas. Verdict is out whether I will have this again mixed with perhaps a few other flavors. Its not so much like the spice of cinnamon rather it has that candied flavor pretty well matched. It tastes a bit artificial to me but maybe all of my new lil samples of flavors will..I don’t know yet but I’m thinking so. Just glad theyre small samples!! Definitely would not order this tea again. :(
Preparation
Ah, yes. Samples have saved me from many a bad tea purchase. They are a wonderful, wonderful invention.
Mmmmmm…niiiiice. This tea is hitting the spot! Its very visually appealing when u first put it in cup- it is like lil friggin monkey claws! Too cute! The taste is very smooth, with a nice malty touch and a hint of chocolate notes for sure. Its very satisfying and filling while I snuggle here in my sweats on a cold day . Yes I did actually get to the gym earlier but that was hours ago and now I’m satisfying my craving for warmth. When I was working out I was trying to distract myself from the pain by thinking of the blueberry white tea I would have iced when we got home..well, that never happened and I’m now chilled enough that iced anything makes me shiver. I suppose I could turn the heat up but I kinda like the briskness in the house- keeps me going. That and keeps me wanting more and more tea and thats never a bad thing!!
Preparation
Currently watching the first snowflakes of the season come down and sipping on my fave fave fave black of all time with some milk and sugar— YUM!! I imbibe in this fabulous black tea every day at least twice..first thing in the morning and then a nice rev me up afternoon cup. Loooooooooooove it!!! Very content right now. :)
all of the flavored rooibos that I have tried have been gross. Do you like plain rooibos? I’d give it a try if you haven’t already. I’m a fan. I like plain rooibos with a little peppermint tossed in. Very refreshing. Rishi has the Peppermint Rooibos that rocks, but honestly you can buy plain rooibos and some plain peppermint, add them together and it’s exactly the same thing.
Yeah I have to agree with you, I’m not hot on rooibos teas either. Especially after the wonderful flavors of black tea.
I keep trying rooibos teas and keep being disappointed. I wish I could like them.
Rooibos teas are really hit and miss with me. I did find a good one I like at the Granville Island Tea Company in Vancouver. It was chocolate mint but it had tons of real cocao nibs and peppermint leaves mixed in the rooibos. You could tell that the peppermint was fresh too just from the smell.
Hrm. Rooibos and caramel aren’t two flavors that read to me as ones that would marry well together. Seems like it would come out as mealy tasting? Anyhow, tea disappointments make me sad, but if it weren’t for them the good stuff wouldn’t taste as good, right?
