drank Vanilla Rose by DAVIDsTEA
59 tasting notes

I’ve been looking forward to this tea all week. I LOVED the idea of Vanilla Rose. Two of my favourite flavours.

So today as soon as I got off work, I sped over to DavidsTea to get this and Spa Day. There was samples on the counter so I was like SWEEET! Oh, how glad I am that I tried Vanilla Rose before buying.

The dry tea smelled good. The hot tea tasted and smelled like cinnamon. Loads of cinnamon. I tasted a faint note of rose, but it was ALL cinnamon. What a disappointment. I expected a light lovely floral with a creamy vanilla finish :(

drank Serenity Now by DAVIDsTEA

I picked up 25g of this on Sunday. I just had to. Every time I went on the Davids website, there it was taunting me…“Try me! Try me! I’ll be a great bedtime tea!”

I had originally intended on buying 50g, but the sales person warned me that she felt it was too flowery. But I had to try it any way.

That evening I anxiously brewed myself a cup. I always follow the instructions when it comes to tea, so I did 5 minutes at 96. I found the flavour less powerful than I had expected. Just a soft warm cozy tea. Strawberry stuck out the most, but I also tasted the lavender.

Last night I brewed a second cup, and then thanks to my crying baby, about half the cup was forgotten. Not to let a good thing go to waste, I downed the remainder cold this morning. JACKPOT! This is AWESOME cold.

I tried this yesterday. Davids had the dry spring teas in glasses on the shelf. This one smelled good, but mild. I assumed it was because it had been sitting out.

I had a cup to go. It was quite weak. It was a mild creamy strawberry. If I had made it myself I would have thought that I had messed up.

I brought it home and stuck in the fridge, and mixed in some sugar. It was OK

drank Melon Drop by DAVIDsTEA

I went into Davids today to see if I could score a free cup of tea from their Easter egg hunt. There was one stuck right on the sign at the front of store, which sort of bummed me out. I expected a challenge!

As soon as I was handed my tea I sniffed it. It was kind of weird smelling, but as it steeped it turned into a beautiful yummy candy scent.

Tasting….JUST like honey dew melon. I can’t wait to go back and grab a bag of this.

drank Yogi Berry by DAVIDsTEA

Resteeped according to DesireeAleece’s suggestion of a MUCH shorter steeping time. I was pleasantly surprised with a 1 minute steep. Tastes almost like candy. Much more berry this time, with just a hint of ginger. Yay!

I still wouldn’t recommend or repurchase, but at least I can drink it now.

drank Yogi Berry by DAVIDsTEA

I thought I was going to love this one. I imagined something really natural and zen tasting. Something that would help me be present and relax. Ok – maybe I had some high hopes.

In the tin it smelled like candy!

On my first sip, it was like what the hell is this? Ginger is definitely a major note. It reminds me of when I was really into juicing and I’d juice beets, following by large chunks of ginger to cover the horrible ‘dirt’ taste that beets have. Not a terribly pleasant taste.
After the ginger passes, I mildly taste strawberry. But not enough. My son was standing in front of me manging back a bowl of strawberries while I had this tea, so I grabbed a large piece and dropped it in. It upped the strawberry taste slightly.
I’ll also echo the other reviewers in saying it has a medicinal taste.

I’m determined that I can come up with a way to salvage this tea. Maybe ice it, and then float fruit in it. Maybe throw it in the blender with non-dairy milk and a handful of berries.

Flavors: Ginger, Medicinal, Strawberry

I find the best way to steep Yogi Berry is 45 seconds to a minute! Has more fruit flavours than ginger!

Thanks DesireeAleece! I just tried steeping for 1 minute and it’s WAY better! I still don’t think I’ll be running out to buy more, but at least it’s palatable now.

drank Toasted Walnut by DAVIDsTEA

I had been putting off trying this because I wasn’t big on Forever Nuts. BUT – I consider Toasted Walnut much better.

I found this one of the most complex tasting teas that I’ve ever had. As it was steeping I was struck by a sweet vanilla scent. It took me a second to realize it was my tea.

Upon first taste, I thought vanilla. Second sip, hmm…a bit nutty, a bit toasty, some coconut. Third sip, back to vanilla. I felt like my taste buds kept jumping every time I took a sip. It was cool.

I’d describe this tea as very comforting and smooth. The type of tea you want to have when you’ve been outside all day in the cold.

Although it is a good tea, I don’t see myself making it part of my permanent collection since it’s not OMFG-AMAZING-CRAVING-IT good.

drank Scarlet Jasmine by Teavana

I don’t usually buy from Teavana, but I was suckered by a $10 off coupon. This tea was sitting at the front of the store as a sampler, and I enjoyed it. Though, I am bothered by the fact that Teavana sweetens their sample teas. For health, I try to limit how often I put sugar in my tea, so I want to taste JUST the tea.

Right now I’m drinking a 5th steep of this tea. The original was a pretty pinkish red. It was sweet, a bit fruity and a fair bite of jasmine. Five steeps later, Jasmine is the dominant flavour with a slight hint of berry at the end.

Oh, also note that Teavana recommends using 2-3 teaspoons of this tea PER CUP. All I can think about is that this tea is going to last me 2-3 times LESS than any other teas in my cupboard.

Rant moment: It bothered me how pushy the sales person was. She must have told me like 3 times about their horrible “promotion” of buy a butt load of tea and get one CUP to-go free. It was something like you had to buy 100g of teas of 3 teas. I remember doing the math in my head and figuring you’d have to spend at $60-$80 to get your free $4 cup of tea… Seriously??

Anyway, in conclusion I like this tea. But I’m not a big fan of Teavana, so once it’s gone I probably won’t restock. (Unless they have some kind of crazy blow out sale)

Flavors: Berry, Jasmine

Let’s start with the fact I L-O-V-E Earl Grey. I love Earl Grey tea, cookies, donuts, cupcakes…actually I even own an Earl Grey perfume.

My first experience with a ‘cream’ Earl was at a mom to mom sale where there was a Steeped Tea sales rep sampling Earl Grey de la Creme. I was astonished with how dreamy it was. At the time was note a tea connoisseur by any means. But I’ve always remember this experience.

This past Christmas I acquired Cream of Earl Grey from DavidsTea. It’s really nice, but I think Steeped’s was better. I’m always surprised by the licorice notes in this tea, which I dont really associate with Earl Grey. I had some friends over yesterday and one was really surprised at the flavour of this tea. She said it was definitely a different twist on the Earl, but good. (Emphasis on the word good, rather than amazing or great)

This is, hands down, my most prized tea. I picked it up years ago when visiting Ste Anne’s Spa and gave it as a gift to my mom. She apparently didn’t fully appreciate it and it sat in her cupboard since. So, I brought it home.

Despite sitting in a cupboard since 2011…it tastes AMAZING. Such a beautiful strong cinnamon flavour. It’s great black, or if you add a bit of sweetener it’s like cinnamon heart candies. I love that I can distinctly taste both the cinnamon and the ceylon tea.

I’ve been able to resteep this tea over 5 times, and every time I still get a wonderful brew. The only reason I end up tossing the leaves is because I want to change flavours otherwise I’m sure it could keep going strong.

Not sure when the next time is that I’ll be at the Spa since I now have a two year old, and it’s 2.5 hours away…but I think I’ll be placing an order in June as a birthday gift to myself ;)

Tea literally gets me through the day. I start with something caffeinated in the morning, then usually a re-steep or less caffeinated tea mid morning and work my way to a herbal by night.

Green tea and oolong are top in my books. I recently discovered that I LOVE genmaicha – but I get why it’s not for everyone. My favourite flavours right now are lime, lavender and mint. I tend to dislike teas that have raisins or hibiscus, and I’m not fond of weak fruit infusions.

A lot of my teas come from Davidstea. I also have some Teavana and Tealish. When I can, I try to pick up unique teas. My most prized tea is a tea from Ste Anne’s Spa in Grafton, Ont called Cinnamon Glow.
