761 Tasting Notes
Balcklog/sipdown…I had this a few days ago, thanks to Cavocorax and I do seem to remember liking it. It was light, but has some sweet notes to it, but I’m afraid I don’t remember exactly. I only had enough for one serving, and I made two steeps of this for work.
Like I said, it was pleasant and tasty enough, but I can’t recall specifics about the taste.
Decided to pop by the mall on the way to downtown after work, to kill some time before a show. I knew I wanted some caffeine to get me through the show later, but I knew I wanted tea instead of coffee. I was just gonna go to Starbucks or Timmies, but remembered the Teavana in the mall. So I opted to go there instead, and this is the drink I chose. I’ve had it before, so I played it safe. I had this only with sweetener, no milk this time, and it was fine. Mostly chocolate and coconut notes. Not a terribly strong brew, but it was fine.
As in the past, it’s pretty tasty, and one of the few teas from them I like. But I don’t know if I’d ever buy a tin of this or not. Might have a few more to go cups of this before deciding, as it is tasty, but I generally dislike going there.
Not drinking this because I really want it, but more from a 1) it’s caffeine free, and 2) it seems I may be getting sick again, and the ingredients in here, are quasi-medicinal.
It isn’t a terrible taste, so it is tolerable. But yeah, I’m drinking this for what it is, even if it isn’t really a favourite.
I dunno guys….I really want to love this one, but it came out weak. I don’t know if it is a brewing issue or whether the milk I added affected it. It’s far from horrible, but nowhere as rich as I had expected.
I don’t remember my exact steeping, but I think it was about 2 tsp (to fill 2 travel mugs) and probably about 3 minutes each steep. As per usual, I split the first steep between the two mugs and did the same with the second steep. I do it like this to reduce having one mug of weaker tea.
I’ll try it again, soon, but without the milk, perhaps.
Many thanks to Cavocorax for sharing some of this with me. One hopes that I’ll get a better steep next time.
Preparation
Exploring more of my teas from Cavocorax tonight, and this one, being caffeine free, won. I’ve seen a lot of reviews on it, so it piqued my curiosity. I used 2 heaping tsp to 10 oz or so of water, and let it steep at least 5 minutes, but it was likely longer…I just didn’t time it. I think I could probably go for a longer steep next time, though this was tasty, if not a little bit weak. I did add a small amount of sugar and some dark chocolate milk…I think the milk made me only taste the milk, and not the tea, but I’m not sure. Will try with regular milk at a later time.
I’m not sure how to rate this one yet…I like it, but I’m not sure I love it, yet I love the aspect of something chocolatey and caffeine free (or at least low caffeine for later in the evening. I really am trying to stick to my reduced caffeine, and trying to keep the caffeine to the morning and mid-afternoon hours only.
So I think I’ll leave the rating off for now, moreso because I need to think more about it, and maybe have more of this and try tweaking it some first.
Flavors: Chocolate
Preparation
Ummmm, yum? This is some seriously tasty tea, and everything I expected it to be, really. I’m just sad that I only have one more serving left, though hoping for a resteep with tonight’s brew.
Warm and toasty from the genmai cha, but also warm from the caramel as well. Almost like burnt sugar. This is probably my favourite genmai cha ever!
Would I recommend this to a friend? Heck YES!
A super big thanks to Cavocorax for sending a few teaspoons my way.
Flavors: Caramel
Preparation
Yes, I was craving it so much after seeing so many of my friends taste it. It is sooo yummy! Everything is in perfect balance. I’m toying with blending some of my caramel houjicha and genmai houjicha together for a toasted caramel treat.
That could be quite tasty. I will have to keep an eye on your tasting notes to see how that turns out.
Bird Pick Tea & Herb Caramel Houjicha – interesting. I am so glad they don’t ship to Canada… lots of interesting stuff on that site. No temptation when you can’t order. Interesting though.
Yes, it’s the Bird Pick Tea and Herb Caramel Houjicha. I got it in bags last year, but loose this year. I like it, though it takes time to adjust to the houjicha since it has such a distinct flavour profile. I have enough that I can send some via trade, but I’ve got a few other packages I need to get out first.
Had this as a tea latte, while at a Bird Pick shop yesterday. They made it with sweetened condensed milk, which was pretty good, but maybe a little much. I think I would try it with standard milk new time….though next time ended up being tonight, and I have a bare fridge post-vacation.
Nice to know I can drink this one without sugar, though I do think it would benefit from a teensy bit. I did have maple syrup on my waffles tonight, so I’m sticking with my unsweetened mug for now though.
Still roasty and lightly sweet as remembered, though a little strange tasting at first. I got about $5 worth, which isn’t a huge amount, but sufficient number of servings, considering this is a lightweight tea. It cost half as much as the bags I got last year, and i have more servings, getting it loose.
I’m gonna try cold steeping in the summer, I think, and maybe use the sweetened condensed milk again. I’ve got enough to experiment. I may even mix in some green rooibos…
The thing I like most about this tea is that it is low in caffeine, but has body, and works well hot (as well as sweetened and with milk). This means that I am fine at the thought of having this in the morning, in an attempt to take control on the caffeine level, even if it still feels like more of a n afternoon or evening tea.
Sipdown…I almost saved this last bit for a cold brew, over the summer, but I opted to sipdown tonight instead.
It’s pretty tasty. That nice peachy apricot doesn’t seem too artificial, and the base is not too smoky or astringent either, so it is quite a pleasant steep. If I do get more of this, I am quite keen still, to see how it is cold steeped.
Flavors: Apricot, Peach
Preparation
Sipdown once again…in continuing the comfort teas…had the rest of this tonight after seeing Fjellrev drink this. It’s one of my favourite teas, and was actually my first tea from DAVIDs. It’s back on my shopping list/wish list til I drink more tea down, but I will get more eventually. It’s just something I need fairly regularly. It’s just one of those teas I love but don’t always drink because I get distracted by shiny new samples and things.
But anyways…see ya around Movie Night…til we meet again.
