All in all a extremely yummy tea! Cha qi imparts a complete relaxation. Very good! I rate a 99/100 only because it would be perfect if it had some earth and fermentation.

i have not had this tea for a while too and it is still awesome! i can safely say i prefer sheng puehr :D funny thing when i get the lodging home staff to try it one says “what? the stinky poo ehr?” another says “i don’t drink anything that sounds like its got poo in it” I’m like the Chinese word pu doesn’t mean poo it has nothing to do with poo
(PS: forgot to check the yes under recomended)

I know about the sheng ’Spicy" notes as well. I think the first one I got in the aroma was the “Wild Monk” from Mandala. like inhaling some spicy hot sauce in the aroma.
not really burn but the steam from the Gaiwan kind of put me back a step. Have you tried the wild monk yet?
Very interesting. This had some earthiness at the start, but I’m on steeps 4-5-6 and that’s gone. It’s has a smidge of sweetness on the finish, but just a touch. This one reminds me more of a coffee. It’s pretty bold. There are some other flavors that I can’t quite pick out, perhaps because I’m exhausted.
It’s good, fo sho!

I love these types of teas… I’d crave this when I crave something light. These fuzzy little sickles don’t have too much flavor but I love the flavor that is there. I’m not sure why I rinsed the leaves as there doesn’t seem to be many fuzzies in the mug I was sipping anyway. It’s very smooth! Sweet and light, hints of melon, cucumber, lemon, bit of creaminess. The flavor seems to morph with every sip. I wanted a second steep but I waited too long the next day/overnight… I wouldn’t be tasting the tea at its finest.
Steep #1 // 2 tsps // 35 min after boiling // rinse // 2 min
I’m leaving a note without a rating because I need to come back to this one.
It’s a lovely cake, loosely compressed. I measured out 5 grams, put it in my teapot and took a sniff. WHAT is that scent? Pause. Sniff. PICKLES!!!
But yeah, it smells like kosher dills. Before any of you smartasses suggest that I may be preggers, I assure you that I am not. :p
I brewed it up in spite of my nervousness, and the taste… also pickley. I admit to feeling a little run down, so it’s possible that I am getting sick and my sniffer may be off. I’m not congested this AM, but I feel like something is going on here. It’s a bit of a mystery.
If I try this again and get the same scents, I am going to send a few samples off to friends to see if it’s just me…
Preparation
I think you are not used to the taste of the chrysanthemum, its a different sort of earthy than puerh.
I have had snow chrysanthemum loose and on its own and I thought it had a bit of a pickle-y dill aroma and taste, but it was pretty tasty and had other complex notes. I do admit I am curious to try this cake :P
TTF – You’ll be getting some of this soon… don’t worry.
Allan – I would agree that I am not used to it, but pickles? LOL
Amanda – I am going to give it another chance for sure. It was just so unexpected and not what I was looking for in a morning tea! Maybe a snack tea would be better!!!
I had this tea too but in a slightly larger cake (100g). I know I didn’t like it that much either but can’t find my review on it.
I just lost the note for this one too. Sigh. This one is much different from the other 58 I had the other day. Much more complex but to be fair, I did use two teaspoons rather than one this time. The flavor is so deep like unsweetened chocolate, dry like a wine. Kind of like a dragon pearl. The color of the cup actually has the color of wine. The second steep has that oversteeped mulchy flavor.. which is funny as the shape of these leaves actually remind me of mulch/wood chips… they just have a black with hints of gold color. The first steep was delicious though. Probably my fault on the second steep.
Steep #1 // 2 tsps // few min after boiling // 3 min
Steep #2 // just boiled // 4+min
These dark and wiry leaves don’t seem very “light roast” to me, though the color of the mug is a light gold. Brewed it has a fragrance like a lapsang souchong. I don’t mind smokiness, but otherwise the flavor seems like sour plums. It’s funny this is a “purple” tea if it reminds me of plums. It reminds me of a tea I’ve tried before but I couldn’t say which one but otherwise doesn’t seem like black teas or pu-erh. Not terrible but there are other teas I’d be craving more!
steep #1 // 2 tsps. // 15 min after boiling // 3 min
i really like purple teas of Dehong. This one is no exception. the taste is complex. Its like mix of smoked meats, raw nuts, maybe floral, but on the background. in other words it tastes savory to me. Some spice makes it complete.

Lewis & Clark Traveling Teabox – Tea #11
A solid green tea with twisted wirey leaves. The flavor is a bit on the light side, but it has the creamed corn flavor I love. Maybe my palate hasn’t gotten around to figure out these flavors yet… they’re all “creamed corn” to me. Not much else for me to say, sadly, though this could be a dependable green to have in the cupboard.
Steep #1 // 30 min after boiling // 2-3 min
I thought I already had this tea but the package was sealed so it was a nice surprise. I brewed a couple of cups this morning and I seem to get a spicey edge from this one. There’s a bit of that apricot taste . Smooth, not bitter, a light sweetness. This seems to be a pretty good young sheng.
Flavors: Apricot, Smooth
