As part of my mission to sip down my ancient samples, I thought I’d take advantage of what looks to be the last day of even remotely fall-like weather here for a while and try this one out. Despite its age, this is pretty pleasant—the apple is pretty faint (though that could be age-related), though, and spice-wise the cinnamon and cloves really dominate. The base is kind of eh, but you can’t really expect much more than that from US Twinings. I don’t think this is something I’ll purchase, though it has gotten me intrigued re: the possibility of a truly great apple cider chai.

I really like this flavor reminds me of fall and apple pie. Nice taste, I drink it in daytime.

This is the Canadian version which is made with Ceylon and Indian Teas. I bought this one at Walmart for $8 Canadian.

Looking at the dry leaf, you will notice that it looks like it has been all ground up. Hopefully, the lighter colour are tips and not twigs etc. A quick tip: if you roll the bowl of leaf around a bit, you can get an idea of how much dust there is in the tea. There is little aroma in the dry leaf. The brewed leaf has juat a little tea aroma.

The brewed cup is just as unexciting. I tested two David’s breakfast teas yesterday and this one and they were all like this.

My advice is to find a good quality Ceylon.

Strangely, I have a package of Twinings English Breakfast in Teabags that has been sitting around for two years and it is better than this as well. A nice clear reddish brew that I have drunk without milk and sugar. Note that the Brits get a different blend in their home country as well.

I decided to brew this morning as well in a more concentrated form, because I had watched Twinings brew it this way. I measured out a teaspoon (3 grams) and 200 mL of water for 3 minutes. The tea was more brisk this morning. There was almost a metallic taste on the tip of my tongue. My tongue now feels furry and a numb.

Picked this up on a whim at my local supermarket.

Had too much sushi and needed something soothing for the stomach. This did the trick just fine. Also running out of caffeine-free options so this is handy to have in my cupboard.

I’ve had better peppermint, but for $0.10/teabag I’m not complaining.

I’m new to teas, really. Just getting into it, and waiting for my loose leaf teas to come in, but while I was waiting I nabbed this from the local grocery store. I tend to go for a more robust, bitter tea, but this was rather pleasant. It was warming, the cinnamon was not too overpowering, and the orange was more of a smell than a taste. Definitely not bad for a cheap, easy tea.

drank Pure Green Tea by Twinings

This is pretty much a standard in Canada and Great Britain.

It’s a good cup of green tea . They also sell 200 bag boxes, which really makes it a value, if you can find them.

Each one is individually wrapped.

Twinnings probably has the best blenders in the world. They deal with so much tea.

It’s better than the Walmart Brand here, as well.

Next time I get another box, I will update this.

It’s kind of strange that there aren’t more reviews of this tea. It is everywhere in Canada, and Britain.

As long as I can remember Twinnings was a quality brand here. They were above the usual supermarket brands.

This English Breakfast is a nice dark colour. You can drink it with or without milk and it is fine. In other words the tea isn’t too heavy on tanin like cheaper brands.

All of the tea bags are individually wrapped. I have a box here that has been around for 2 years, and it still tastes good.

I totally agree with you. Twinings English Breakfast Tea is a solid, dependable, good quality tea. It is a permanent fixture in my tea pantry.

It WOULD be nice if it didn’t taste like orange paper.

So this is my first tea rating, and with only 15 years of experience on earth, my tea knowledge is not all that it could be. All in all, I quite enjoyed this. I brewed it for four minutes and let it get fairly dark. I then drank it and quite liked it. without any milk it is fairly strong but I don’t find the flavours overpowering.

drank The Earl Grey by Twinings

I tried the loose leaf version of Twinings’ Earl Grey, and I can assert it is perfect for a morning tea.
The bergamot is a little too subtle for my taste but the tea is very fragrant nonetheless.
The leafs are small and not very high quality, but for the price, I would recommend!

drank Lady Grey by Twinings

I came here to kick butt and review tea, and I AM ALL OUT OF BUTT TO KICK.
After a spectacularly productive morning of cat-sitting, dog-walking, and plant-watering, I was ready for a little bit of time with tea and a book.
Am I stereotypical and pretentious? Yes. Yes, I am.
This tea, Lady Grey, is the tea that first made me think “hey, this could be a thing I do. I could become a tea person.
Now that I’ve become a “tea person,” I return to the original.
I find this to be a bit astringent (bitter, mouth-drying) and over-flavored with bergamot and orange. I’ve discovered other things that I like more.
However, this is still a solid basic choice. I’d never turn it down. A part of me will always love it.

Since I’m currently stalking your reviews, please tell me that was a Dazed and Confused reference to open up a tea review…

Super Starling!

@mtchyg: You bet I did. I just ran a Google of the phrase, and the origin of it was apparently They Live. It’s been used in a variety of contexts, including the Duke Nukem movie. OH YES. THAT EXISTS. There’s also a beautiful scene in the IT Crowd where Moss (the geekiest character) is drinking milk at a bar and says it:

I was skeptical about this one—it’s not the flavor profile I usually go for, and I only threw a bag of it into my purchase at the Twinings shop last month to make it to the required minimum of 15 miscellaneous teabags. But I’m actually enjoying it quite a bit. It tastes quite strongly of lime, which is a bit off the beaten track in the herbal tea world. It’s pleasantly tart, but it doesn’t taste especially strongly of hibiscus. I can’t say I can really pick out the blood orange or pineapple, but it does taste pleasingly of tropical fruits in an abstract sense. I might pick up a box of this one sometime to mix up my usual berry-based lineup.

drank Jasmine Earl Grey by Twinings
95 tasting notes

It’s time for “impulse buys at Netcost” again! I was there to stock up on Ahmad’s Apple Refresh tea, since it’s so hard to find just plain apple-flavored teas lately and no other store around here has it, when I spotted this on the shelf. I figured hey, why not try it? If I like lavender Earl and rose Earl, another floral Earl can’t steer me wrong.

It doesn’t really smell or taste that different from Twinings’ regular Earl Grey. Maybe a little lighter due to the inclusion of the jasmine green. There’s a little bit of floral aftertaste to it, but maybe I’m just imagining things.

It’s a nice lighter alternative to their regular Earl. Just don’t go into it expecting much in the way of jasmine flavor.

This is a decent blend for what it is. The green base is pretty meh, but there’s a strong note of sweet, syrupy lychee to make up for it. It’s got nothing on the greats of the lychee world, like Butiki’s magnificent and much mourned Lychee Oolong. It’s not a particularly complex blend, or an outstanding one, and I don’t think it’ll be a restock. Still, not bad for less than £2 on special.

This one is nice and gingery, and while it’s more spice than fruit the rhubarb comes through decently. I could’ve done without the liquorice root, though—this is sweeter than any rhubarb tisane has a right to be, and I suspect I would’ve liked it better without this stealth addition. It’s not bad, and I won’t rule out restocking it given the price, but I think I prefer Teapigs’ take on this flavor combo.

I really like this tea overall. It’s a bit different from Earl Grey in that there is less bergamot flavour and more of a citrous-lemon flavour. This is for me a good thing as I find bergamot flavour in most Earl Grey teas a bit strong

Fiancee and I have affectionately nicknamed it the “Prodigal Son of the most noble House of Grey,” as its flavour lies somewhere in between Twinings’ Earl and Lady Grey blends. If the Earl and Lady had a smart, bright, witty son with a good head for business who can write poetry and ride horses, likes ships, and will soon be taking over the father’s company and refresh it with vigor and vibrancy while still keeping with tradition where it’s needed, that son is this tea. Robust but not overpowering, not as delicate as Lady.

Unfortunately I haven’t seen it available in the US where I’m at, but it’s my tea of choice when I’m up in Canada with my fiancee. A bit pricey, and each box only contains 15 bags(the nice pyramid type, though). Nevertheless a wonderful brew.
