Somewhere along the line, my tastebuds have changed because I used to really dislike any tea with ginger in it and now I really enjoy it. Funny how that happens!
I’ve been nursing a cold since last Friday night and have burned through my remaining stash of Davids Organic Cold 911 so I desperately needed something that was going to help soothe my raw vocal chords (I’ve currently lost my voice) and this seems to be doing the trick.
A soothing, smooth ginger, tempered with just a faint hint of sweetness. Simple and comforting and all I really want right now. Thank heavens for small mercies!

A lighter flavor than the regular throat coat, this is great for those days when your throat is a little dry and have some nasal drip bothering you. Not as potent as the regular flavor, but it also tastes better.

drank some of this before bed last night. It is pretty bitter and herbal, but it is good for those days I just feel a little run down. Serves its purpose.

I love PNW peppermint but y’all probably know that by now. Because of the fresh blast of mint, I would have never guessed there to be green tea in this bag. The peppermint already has a thick sweetness but the green tea does this awesome texture thing that makes the tea almost buttery-chewy and satisfying. The menthol from the mint really cools me down — it comes out of my ears, chest and armpits after a short time and can linger for a couple hours.
Like a buttermint on steroids.

I have a soft spot for farmers :) As to this brand, a friend brought me a couple boxes of their straight-up peppermint and it is definitely strong and effective!
Thank you derk for those two tea bags. Nice addition to my collection!
However, in taste it is rather boring. There is nothing that says it is Darjeeling for me and the lemon taste is rather lemongrass.
Somehow too simple. I know I did steep only for 5 minutes while they suggest 10, but I didn’t wanted to have tannic and bitter cup.
Flavors: Lemongrass
Preparation
I sent this to you solely for collection purpose. Please don’t feel obligated to drink the other one!
The lemon and ginger here is soothing and easily drinkable. Don’t know about the medicinal benefits of the tea but I’d drink this if I had a cold. I do prefer gypsy cold care, but this is nice for a change of pace. And I always like tea with a message on the string :)
If I take the bag out at a respectable time, it has a light black tea taste like standard fare sinensis varietal with some lemony tang. If left in due to inattentiveness, it develops some earthiness and the lemongrass becomes a smothering top note. Not my cup. Only lemongrass done lightly passes the derk test. Going for a respectable steep time makes an inoffensive, if boring, cup.

#tiffanys2021sipdown Tea #192 overall / Tea #16 for May
Mon 5/10 - Traditional Medicinals Organic Turmeric 2 teabags hot & plain. This was 4 teabags that came in a Sipsby box at some point. I drank two of these as something comforting with the warmth of temperature, turmeric, and ginger. Got the job done although was tasting a little stale.

I got this as a freebie, probably at some tea festival or another. I did a count of my teas today and got 117, but I could be a bit off. Like, some of my Bird and Blend teas I have multiple bags of the same flavor. So I’m probably a little off. But anyway, I decided to start sipping down some of my samples.
This came as a single tea bag in a bag. I read the instructions and steeped it in boiling water, covered, for 15 minutes. The turmeric really stands out, and the ginger hides behind it somewhat faintly. I don’t know what meadowsweet tastes like, but I only pick out these two flavors. It’s mildly spicy, but not as spicy as some turmeric teas I’ve had.
Okay, I read about meadowsweet, and it has a minty flavor, and now I pick up a tiny minty note at the end of the sip. Interestingly, it contains aspirin and was the first source of it.
This is pretty good, could actually use more turmeric flavor.
Flavors: Ginger, Mint, Spices
Preparation
Not dranking for benefits, just dranking to drank. Brews pretty light in color with moderately strong taste. Nectary sweet body with a richer honey note that pops out. Drying but fresh and sweet and ultimately very pleasant. This reminds me so much of the sweet floral meadow note I get in some younger sheng pu’er.
Flavors: Dry Grass, Drying, Flowers, Honey, Nectar, Sweet
Not dranking to detox, just dranking to drank. Sometimes I crave nettle tea.
Tastes very much like nettle — nutritious-herbaceous-earthy. Hibiscus body and tang actually rounds out that taste nicely. A hint of berry. No licorice root. I think I like it.
Flavors: Berry, Earth, Herbaceous, Hibiscus, Tangy
When I see ginger listed as an ingredient, I usually expect it to be the overriding flavour. This is not the case here. I can taste ginger, barely, but for the most part this tastes like turmeric. That’s fine, as I like turmeric; however, it does make for a rather simple taste. Possibly this is intended to be consumed more for health benefits than for flavour, but since that’s not why I’m drinking it, I’d have preferred a slightly more balanced flavour profile.
As this is a spice-based tisane which creates a dark gold brew when steeped, it has some similarities to chai. However, it lacks the sweetness and complexity of chai. It’s not really sweet at all, in fact, so if you like your spicy teas sweet as well, some honey would probably do well here.
Flavors: Ginger, Spices

Derk generously sent me this tea a couple months ago. I like peppermint more than spearmint, but was happy to give this a try. I steeped one teabag in a 355 ml mug at 205F for 4, 6, 8, and around 30 minutes.
As expected, this tea smelled like spearmint gum. The first couple steeps had a crisp, sweet, slightly earthy spearmint taste. I let the teabag sit for almost a day before making my last two infusions, which were not as flavourful and seemed a bit grassy and stewed. I’m not sure if this was due to the long delay between steeps or the extended steep times. Regardless, this was a pleasant way to end the day, although peppermint is still my favourite.
Flavors: Earth, Grass, Spearmint, Sweet

I received a sample tea bag a long time ago and finally decided to try it. I am not breastfeeding and will not drink it again. I do not like coriander or fennel in my tea. They are both too strong in this one. I won’t even finished this mug, which may be a first time.
Flavors: Coriander, Fennel Seed

March 2022 → A tea with spinach/artichoke notes
I’ll admit, I wasn’t looking forward to this particular sipdown prompt. I like sugary sweet tea (not too terribly ashamed to admit it), so drinking a tea that tastes like vegetables doesn’t sound all that great to me. Even if they are vegetables I like to eat. I did a search through some Steepster notes and found one saying that this nettle infusion has a spinachy flavor, so I figured I’d try it and call it an allergy tea. I’m not having any allergy issues at the moment, but it’s spring now so it surely can’t hurt.
It’s really not so bad, though it is an unsettling shade of green. Like a seaweed green, both green and brown all at once. The flavor is sort of metallic alongside the veg. Isn’t nettle rich in iron? Could that be it? Not one I’d drink for fun but not as terrible as I was expecting either.
EDIT: Oops, forgot to list the prompt at the top!
Flavors: Metallic, Vegetal

I remember thinking this tasted like nutty hay when I tried it. I think I still have some in the back of my cupboard waiting for the needed ‘anti-inflammatory’ purpose.
Nettle is a very therapeutic and nourishing herb! I wasn’t explicitly aware of its medicinal qualities, but now that you two mention its anti-inflammatory nature, it makes sense that I crave it before menstruation. I think it smells like flake fish food, heh.
