Sipdown (117)!

Tasting note time! I haven’t posted anything here on Steepster in a little while because I just finished a six day streak at work, and I haven’t had any energy (or time, really) to write anything before or after work. Today’s my day off though so lets see what I can write today!

This sample comes from MissB – I saw the coconut shreds in it and automatically assumed it’d make a nice cold brew, so that’s how I prepared my sample. After it was strained this smelled distinctly chocolatey and nutty; no actual coconut notes which is what made me go for a cold brew in the first place.

The taste is reminiscent of DAVIDsTEA’s Choconut Oolong to me – they both share a very similar sweet chocolate flavour with a syrupy sweetness at the end of the sip. In the latter’s case it was caused by licorice root – for this one, while it does remind me a little of licorice root, it’s more so because of the marzipan. And that’s another key difference; Choconut was hazelnut while this is much more distinctly almond. It’s supposed to have pistachio too – but I’m not getting any of those notes.

And, I actually didn’t taste the coconut at all throughout…

It’s good; but I just put Choconut Oolong to rest after finishing off like 200g of it so I think I’m trying this one a little too soon – all I can think of as I sip on it is Choconut Oolong and I made myself so sick of that one just because of the sheer volume of it that I went through.

Sipdown (132)!

Queued Tasting Note.

Thank you MissB for the sample! I did a blind tasting with this one, and based on the obviously minty smell I decided to cold brew it because iced/cold brewed mint teas are so refreshing! And really just perfect for the nice Spring weather we’ve been having.

The green base used in this is pretty mild, and really takes backseat to the added flavourings. I thought that maybe it was a little bit nutty in addition to the vegetal taste, but mostly just like a regular green. Visually, I’m guessing it’s Gunpowder? It looks pretty similar to most gunpowder teas I’ve ever seen. I’m seeing now that, in the reviews, you guys think it might be a greener oolong? I definitely didn’t think it tasted like oolong…

This has some solid, kind of “mid range” spearmint notes to it. I say mid range because they were strong but not enough so to cover up the base entirely or mask the other flavourings. Mint can be unwieldy if it’s disproportionate and this one didn’t reach that level for me. This had a very weird finish for me; and it’s pretty much only in the finish that I tasted the weird flavour notes.

They were definitely quite peppery; like cracked black peppers and I also tasted some subtler gingery notes as well as maybe fennel? Something a little bit sweeter, anyway. Honestly my first thought was that this sample had been contaminated by something else it was being stored with because I was pretty sure this was just meant to be a high quality Moroccan Mint blend – but I couldn’t really recall having anything Chai-like where I was keeping it, so I didn’t know what was the ’cause of the weird flavour notes. I was actually kind of shocked when I finally looked up the tea/read the description because I was so sure this was just meant to be Moroccan Mint. Turns out I was very dead on with calling this one peppery.

As for the bergamot, though, I just don’t see it! Or, taste it I should say. Nothing about this gave me any indicator of citrus – and bergamot is usually such a distinct flavour, too.

Overall, this one wasn’t bad – but it sure as hell was weird! I’m going to conclude, now having read the description, by slightly altering my initial ‘closing thoughts’: It’s basically an unconventional/non-traditional take on Moroccan Mint. Worth a try; not worth stocking up on.

Sipdown (151)!

Happy St. Patty’s Day! I realize it’s over for most of you now, but technically I’ve still got about a half hour left until midnight…

Thank you MissB! It’s finally nice enough here that I was able to ditch the crappy, leaky glass tumbler I use for hot teas on the way to work and switch to my large, beautiful plastic one that holds my daily 25 oz. cold brew, and then some! Spring is really here!

So; I did this one “blind” – by which I mean I just didn’t look it up at all when making/drinking it. So, these are my completely ‘unbiased’ thoughts about the blend.

Dry, I thought that the leaf was very grassy with obvious peach notes as well as melon – most likely honeydew? I very much anticipated there to be peach in this; I know enough French to know “Peche” is peach – however, I don’t know what “Mignon” is supposed to be. Were I to guess, though, I’d say probably melon just based on the smell. It doesn’t seem like too much of a stretch.

Obviously I cold brewed this one since I’ve already pointed out that I drank it in my cold brew tumbler. It got a whopping 16 hour steep though, because I forgot I was steeping it. First thing I noticed was the green base, which was really strong. Strong in a good way though; it tasted the way freshly mowed grass smells and kind of like chlorophyll? It also has a very, very fresh ‘dewy’ melon taste. At first I was thinking honeydew, but the more I drank the more it tasted like cantaloupe to me. Having now checked out the ingredients I see that it is, in fact, cantaloupe.

Where’s the peach though? I definitely pick up on it in the smell, but I can barely taste it. I also noticed some really, really light floral notes and a third fruit flavour but it’s blending in too closely with the melon for me to identify it. I’ve seen the ingredients list now though; and I’m pretty confidant was I was tasting was strawberry.

This was delicious! I love the way the flavours came together, and it was one of the fruitiest greens I’ve ever had – with interesting and unusual fruit flavours, as well. I don’t know if I’ve seen cantaloupe done by a company other than Butiki.

Today’s word of the day was forlorn, meaning: “1. feeling sad and lonely especially because of being left alone; 2. hopeless”.

MissB

Mignon can mean a few things depending on context. Cute, or soft in this case. I found it got really grassy really fast when I steeped it too long as well, yet really lovely nonetheless. Glad you enjoyed it!

Pulled this one of the box Sil sent to me – I think this might have originated from MissB

I didn’t look up what this was “suppose” to be, and I’m now really confused. Without looking I was thinking chocolate, coconut, and something fruity – raspberry. That’s what I was getting. Marzipan, macaroon, pistachio? Hmmmmm ok if you say so..
Whatever it is, I’ve had a few cups of this tonight and was really happy with it. Reminds me a little of H&S Soho but definitely has that scented European thing going on. Thanks so much guys for sharing this – have enjoyed my evening with it.

Sil

Yup it’s a missB tea. I think this one confused me too…though at this point the only way to be sure is checking my notes hahaha

MissB

Yep, it’s a super confusing yet really tasty tea. Definitely came from me! Glad you enjoyed it.

Kittenna

“Scented European thing” Yes, I totally know what you mean. I like it.

Good mix of coconut and chocolate flavouring. Nice nuttiness notes. Black tea base is smooth with a savoury sweetness and just a hint of a bitter note. This would be a great tea to pair with afternoon tea sandwiches and treats!

Thanks to Miss B for sharing with me!

I’m with MissB on this one…looks like an oolong. I figured today was the day to try this one since i’ve had all sorts of things i wouldn’t normally drink today. This one is a green/mint/blergamot blend….

brewed, this is much more mint than anything…but you can tell the blergfactor is there. mostly though…not something i would drink again. I appreciate the share though MissB!! it’s a lot of fun getting to try these teas out.

OMGsrsly

Do not want. (Mint and bergamot? What?!)

Sil

i’ll try most things…. hahaha but SB might like it

OMGsrsly

Yeah, I’m not into trying that one.

Roswell Strange

What a weird flavour combo…

Crowkettle

Green, minty-citrus perfume? Interesting..

OMGsrsly

SB and CrowKettle might like it, apparently… :D

I ’ve tested so much milky oolong that I can not count them. I was looking for these milky notes so often described…
With this one I find what I want !

The taste is so good: buttery notes (maybe like a taste of vanilla too ) . It ’ s a sweet tea.

I’m always suprised when I drink it. A real smooth …………….

had a cup of this in an effort to get working on drinking up the fancy french teas that are less to my liking, that i largely picked up to share with others here who like things other than black teas haha. This is still a delicious cup of peach green tea – different from your usual “tim horton’s peach flavoured drink tea” :)

MissB

I’m so glad you liked this one. I remember it being too finicky for my ability to steep while on the road.

this might be the only peach tea that have tolerance for these days. I used to adore each teas and then got sick of that particular taste. This tea, however, has a different “peach” about it. it’s more like real peach when it’s been baked. or something. it’s not that “peach drink” flavour you used to? still can? get at tim horton’s lol

Terri HarpLady

Did you know they opened a Tim Horton’s less than a mile from my house? Of course, there probably isn’t anything on their menu that I could eat.
On a side note, they are opening an IKEA nearby on Sept 30th. THAT should be fun!

Sil

ew stay away from tim horton’s gross

Terri HarpLady

LOL, you needn’t worry. I’ll never set foot in the place, too many allergens, plus it’s a chain…

YUM! bumping the rating up a little since this is from the stash i picked up while in paris and is JUST the thing i want in summer – fresh, fruity and sweet. This is a great blend of canteloupe and peach…with the peach being more in the background, which is perfect for me these days as i’m “off” peach. I need to try cold brewing this next to see how that turns out as i’ve love for this to be a good cold brew tea for the summer.

this is is another from missb Again, not typically a fan of green teas but this is a lovely cantelope and peach sort of tea. It reminds me a little of stacy’s canteloupe and crea tea but it’s different. A tasty cup for mid morning…

Still loving this one from MissB Of the te o dor teas i’ve had this one is up there on my list…though not as high as the du loup. I really need to get more of that to make sure it’s still all that lol what a sad day if my taste buds had changed so much that i didn’t love it as much as when i first had it. heh

noms. I pulled this one out to have again from the MissB stash. I love how deep and puerh like this is, with the flavours being much more in the background but still present and tasty.

this was my morning tea since i needed a bit of a PUNCH. I did no rinse or anything like that and this morning it was a dark brew with just the right level of cinnamon running through it. slightly sweet but not cloyingly slow and the puerh still came through. Resteeping it now that i’m home and this is a still a great dark brew but now i’m getting a little more vanilla cookie like taste coming through along with the cinnamon.

Cavo – this is the one you need to remind me IN FUTURE to set aside for you to try :)

Also…thank you missB for accommodating my wish list and finding this one for me!

TeaLady441

I will try. I will add it to my wishlist! :D

Another tea from MissB and while it’s a nice tea with a great base, I’m just not feeling the macaroon/chocolate/coconut flavour going on today. I wouldn’t ever turn down a cup of this, but it doesn’t get me going like some of the other teodor teas :) Love the share though, since this likely would have been one i’d have tried to get! Thanks missb!

… lemon meringue?! What? (Thank you, Dinosara! :) )

This smells nutty. With caramel and vanilla. (This was made in a well-cleaned strainer!)

Lemon meringue?!?! I guess there’s a hint of lemony custard at the end of a good sniff. But. IDK.

Oh poop. I’ve totally oversteeped it. SO bitter, wow. I can taste the lemon, though! It’s a bit pithy. More like candied lemon peel rather than straight up lemon curd. This is really interesting. I’ll have to steep again to see if I can pull flavour without so much bitter.

I’d probably do 2 minutes at 195F if I had more dry leaf. Or 3 minutes at 185F.

Based on it not working at my “usual” parameters, I’d have to say that I probably wouldn’t get more, but it’s really really neat.

(3 tsp (I spilled a bunch on the counter, boo.) in 16 oz. More leaf than usual, but why not.)

Preparation
195 °F / 90 °C 3 min, 0 sec 3 tsp 16 OZ / 473 ML
Plunkybug

Still…lemon meringue is intriguing.

CHAroma

Oooh, going on the wishlist!

OMGsrsly

It was really neat, but I wasn’t expecting the tea to be so picky… or I’d have done 2 way smaller cups. Oh well. I’d try it again!
