A sipdown! (M: 3 Y: 90)

Another tea from Courtney and I feel sad finishing this tea. As she wrote, it seems to be perfect for morning, breakfast tea. I would even say it’s a bit woody and malty… and if my understanding of Danish is correct, it says (in description), it is from Uva region… so no surprise I like it that much; considering Uva by Basilur… which I like for similar qualities. Maybe this is a bit higher quality… and loose leaf as the other one I tried just bagged.

Very good tea. Now I need to check out Uva region black teas.

This tea is from Courtney as well as others I am drinking recently; and next session will be a bit weaker… and a sipdown. Thank you!

After two two-hour drives is this man tired. The interview went well and I was calm and replied well to the questions… however it seems it isn’t what I have been expecting.

This tea is a great wake-me-up-tea; strong, robust and brisk. In the first session I had I got no smoke; however during today session, I got that as well.

Maybe if I got this in better quality or paying more attention; I would find more detailed descriptors. Not sure about the price tag, but it seems like a good daily drinker to me.

A sipdown! (M: 4 Y: 81)
This is a pretty decent and “classic” Earl Grey. A bold black tea base, with strong, but not overpowering citrusy notes; but I didn’t noticed any smoke. Maybe as I am not so sensitive, I just drank strong tea :)

Now, let’s focus on other teas from Courtney! Thank you for a Danish tea experience(s).

I get hints of smoke here and I’m not sure why. The same has happened with the Earl Grey Blue Lady (but not Earl Blue, Decaf Earl Grey, or Copenhagen Grey).

Sadly the rooibos is too medicinal here. The raspberry is there, and delightfully fresh, but that intense rooibos flavour ruins it. Remarkably, it’s exactly the same hot and cold brewed.

I really liked this when I first tried it, but now the berries were coming across in a much ‘chalkier’ way. A true shame as it was very juicy and true to flavour berry in CPH soft water.

drank Grøn Ananas by Tante-T

The dry leaf smells like the best juicy pineapple at the height of summer. The pineapple comes through super clearly in the tea, albeit somewhat less juicy than the scent. This tea is really great and I wouldn’t hesitate to pick up another package when we’re in CPH again.

2023 sipdown no. 103

This tea is quite lovely and I’ve now made it through the entire 100g I picked up in CPH. I find myself reaching for this one as an easy choice when I don’t have the time/energy to focus on much. I’m not sure I’ve ever really found the pineapple here per se, but the walnut and hazelnut come through clearly. There is a lovely creaminess as well, along with a sweetness that isn’t cloying — whether from the pineapple or the ‘sugared’ hazelnuts, I’m not quite sure. Regardless, a lovely cuppa overall.

I’ve been enjoying this one for breakfast/first cup of the day as the weather cools. It’s crisp, clean, and a great ‘breakfast’ type tea.

drank Coconut Cream by Tante-T

I’ve been drinking this one at a rapid pace and have nearly polished off the 100g. It’s only in retrospect (and after leaving Copenhagen) I realised I should have picked up another 100g.

This tea is exactly what it says it is. Fresh, delightful, creamy coconut and a smooth unassuming black tea base. It’s really comforting and I actually enjoy the coconut without any other tropical flavours.

Personal news: I have received my grades and passed my thesis! I officially have my MSc!

I don’t know why this is smoky and there’s not really a reason for it to be, yet it is. Tried steeping at 200°F at both 3 and 4 minutes with the same result.

drank Copenhagen Grey by Tante-T

Enjoying Copenhagen Grey in Copenhagen!

This tea is delightful (also in part due to the amazing water here — all tea just tastes better). There is a massive hit of citrus in this one, a very clean bergamot citrus. Yet, this tea is somehow also very creamy, without using vanilla. And the creaminess with the intense citrus is quite a work of art.

I adore this company and they don’t ship to Canada — I’ll have to stock up when we make it back to CPH ❤.

This is a strong Earl Grey with a very crisp, ‘clean’ taste. There are hints of astringency that never fully materialise. This one does best just under boiling and with a short steep or it can become astringent. It’s also best drunk when it’s cooled just enough to be drinkable. Really, really enjoy this one and can’t wait to pick up more!

drank Inka Chokolade by Tante-T

Courtney very kindly shared some of this tea with me, and I’ve been waiting to try it till the time felt right. Now it’s a Friday morning, I have the day off, and I’ve retreated back to my bed with some homemade muffins and some schoolwork. Enter this tea!

(As a side note, I was actually a little hesitant after smelling the dry leaf, because something about it was a smidge off-putting. I think it’s the barley malt.)

…well, I was so caught up in my reading that I oversteeped my tea by about 10 minutes. I was kicking myself for not doing this sample justice until I tasted it. Because… it still tastes delicious. That odd scent note I caught in the dry leaf is not present in the taste. It’s rich and deep and chocolatey, almost unctuous, but in a good way. I’m definitely tasting the ginger and black pepper, probably more than I would have with a normal-length steep, but they add a pleasant spiciness to the dark chocolate flavor. The base is remarkably muted for such a long steep.

I won’t rate this one yet because I didn’t do it justice and I still have at least one more serving’s worth of leaf. I’ll be savoring that cup and paying better attention!

Flavors: Black Pepper, Dark Chocolate, Ginger

Courtney

I’m so happy it turned out, even with the long steep! :)

The Tante T web shop describes this as “liquid dark chocolate” and I have to agree. It is truly like drinking dark chocolate, it even has a depth of flavour that most chocolate teas don’t — reminiscent of a dark hot chocolate (I assume this is from the addition of barley). The ginger, cardamom, and black pepper fall more to the background here, but add a complexity of flavour and hints of spiciness that work really well.

Tante really does fruit green teas amazingly well. This one has to be my least favourite of the ones I picked up, but it’s still delightful. The pomegranate is at the forefront with the complementary green tea background as a very calming aspect. I don’t know that I’d re-purchase, but a tasty cup nonetheless.

drank Orange by Tante-T

One day until thesis submission and 8 days until we leave for vacation!

I decided to cold brew this tea before just composting it altogether due to a smoky essence when brewed hot. I am so happy I tried the cold brew! The scent dry is juicy, like fresh orange juice and the cold brewed really captures that, with an added sweetness one would get in fresh-squeezed orange juice. It’s almost like it has sugar — but it’s only chunks of orange peel. I’ll be happily enjoy the remainder of this cold brewed!

drank Orange by Tante-T

These teas from Tante T are amazing. The dry leaf here smells strongly like a freshly peeled orange, I’m sure thanks to the orange pieces mixed into the leaf. It smells like it was blended this afternoon (though I picked it up a couple weeks ago).

The black tea is a nice base with no astringency. The orange is at the forefront, but isn’t cloying or overpowering. It’s a lovely tea overall.

drank Grøn Mango by Tante-T

The dry leaf smells intensely of a perfectly ripe, fresh mango. The green base here is lovely and unassuming, with a subtle hint of grassiness. The mango flavour is great with the base and comes across very true to mango. The taste not as intense as the scent from the dry leaf, but delightful nonetheless.
