So, I recently had the chance to go to my very first Sugar Shack with some coworkers! It was a really amazing experience, even if it was still snowy outside and the majority of the food served was very meat heavy (which is a no go for a Vegetarian). I got to see my first ever real life, in person maple teas – something that feels really sad given that I’ve lived in Canada my entire life. They just don’t grow out in Saskatchewan, though…

I also got to do the Maple Syrup ‘taffy’ poured over snow/rolled on a stick thing. Which I’ve know was a _"Canadian Thing" for years now – but which also just isn’t done out in Saskatchewan. Sort of a crossing off of things on my “Canadian Bucket List”, if you will.

I knew the tea options were going to be sad – but while we were eating I figured I’d order a tea anyway. They brought out a tea box with six different options, all this company that I’d actually not heard of before. Most were things like Orange Pekoe, Earl Grey, Peppermint – your usuals. This was the most unique/interesting which is why I chose it. The water provided to steep the tea was actually the worst part; it was so just barely above room temperature! Sad! So, it of course took forever to steep – but I guess when I did end up with a somewhat steeped cup it wasn’t bad. Like a sweet, syrupy strawberry and hibiscus mix.

Good experience – not good tea. I’ll take the trade off.

drank Peach & Passion Fruit by S Sens

Trust me when I say this is only for those who like all-fruit tisanes. While this has very pleasant fruit flavours (from the pieces of real fruit), there is also a strong tartness from rose hip, hibiscus, or citric acid (or all of the above, no ingredients are listed).

Don’t try this hot unless you like tart, fruity teas. It makes a decent iced tea, but I personally can’t take the sourness unless I counter it with sugar. It does brew a lovely pink colour though!

Edit: found the ingredients. Apparently it does indeed feature the sour combo: rosehips, hibiscus, and citric acid. This blend would be hugely improved by going a bit lighter on one or more of these ingredients. By having this amount, they ruined what could have been pleasantly tart.

Flavors: Apple, Citrus Fruits, Fruity, Hibiscus, Orange Blossom, Peach, Sour, Stewed Fruits, Tangy, Tart

Maybe it would be okay cold brewed?

When I do iced tea, I use cold water to brew it. It is definitely better cold brewed, or at least consumed cold.

drank Peach & Passion Fruit by S Sens

I have this thing for peach tea. It just hits the spot every time! This one in particular, is a blend of peach and passion fruit, so it adds a slight tangy-ness to the sweetness from the peach. There is a nice balance, and it kind of tastes like a Popsicle :P

Believe it or not, when it is steeped it’s pink! What a surprise, I thought it was going to be orange xD

drank Night of Dreams by S Sens

I stayed up 2 nights ago, attempting to study, and ended up going out for drinks. Stupid decision, stupid, stupid stupid. All day yesterday, my eyes couldn’t keep open, I had so much coffee that I was shaking. What I needed was a good night’s sleep to calm me down and rejuvenate me in the morning. I’ve been looking for Yogi tea, but haven’t found it here (in Montreal), and ended up drinking this “Night of Dreams”. It is so natural with such an earthy taste of dried flowers, peppermint and something citrus-y. I fell right asleep for 12 and a half hours, woke up feeling alive, and ready to go, without that whole “Ugh” morning-madness feeling.
I definitely recommend it. It totally reincarnated my bad sleeping habits, making each hour truly count.

Let the teabag steep, and keep it in there while you drink it. You taste more flavour!
