This tea just really didn’t do it for me — the flavors just weren’t as strong as I was expecting for something I expected to be like a chai. Perhaps I should have played around more with how I brewed it? Not awful, but a solid “meh” from me. From a Sipsby box.

This is the final sample I grabbed from the Traveling Tea Box before mailing it on to Michelle yesterday. It tastes kind of like the classic Bigelow Constant Comment tea, except with a white tea base instead of black. Orange and cinnamon are definitely the dominant flavors. There’s a bitter aftertaste that I can’t quite pin down, but which is significantly reducing my enjoyment. This one wasn’t a favorite, but overall I very much enjoyed my experience with this traveling tea box! Such a treat to get to try so many new-to-me teas and tea companies. I hope others enjoy the teas that I shared from some of my favorite companies!

What I smell: roasted chestnut, honey

What I taste: malt, cedarwood

Notes: A creamy, smooth, full-bodied black tea from the Kanchanjangha Tea Estate in Nepal. Lovely for a strong, soothing cup of tea in the morning. Found via Sips by subscription box.

Preparation
Boiling 5 min, 0 sec 2 tsp 10 OZ / 295 ML

Another tea that came in my SipsBy box last month. It was fine, but a bit unremarkable. I mainly got cinnamon, ginger, and coriander. Definitely no orange, cardamom, or clove.

This was a free sample that came with my last order from Nepal Tea.

The first thing I notice is the actual tea to lemongrass ratio. There is certainly a lot. I like the idea of lemongrass in chai, though. It smells heavenly, spiced, and clean. There is also a considerable amount of citrus peel and coriander seed. As it steeps, the aroma reminds me of the citronella candles my mom used to keep the mosquitoes away. I used to smell those all the time on the back porch as a kid. So sweet and fresh. This tea could serve as aromatherapy, I swear.

The flavor is so comforting. Lemony with that well-rounded spice I’ve come to love from Nepal Tea. The spice especially comes through on the exhale. While I think a lot of the ingredients are muted by the lemongrass and peel, I can still taste (and rather feel) ginger, too. This is a masterpiece of a chai, much like their Nepali Breakfast. I’m probably going to end up trying every tea this company makes.

Flavors: Cinnamon, Citrus, Citrus Fruits, Citrus Zest, Citrusy, Coriander Seed, Ginger, Lemon, Lemon Zest, Lemongrass

Preparation
205 °F / 96 °C 5 min, 0 sec 4 tsp 24 OZ / 709 ML

This sounds excellent. One of the reasons I like the Kusmi Detox (green one) is because of the Lemongrass in it… Definitely will try this one out in the future.

I highly recommend it!

nice! another sipdown from VariaTEA. I didn’t realise when i took this one out that it was a black tea + spices. A little surprising to see, but honestly, when this was brewed, i was a fan. There’s just the right balance in this one of cardamom and other spices to not feel like it’s overpowering the tea, but also bringing something a little different to the table. i think this one might be interesting as a latte as well.

I wish I weighed my teas more before I steep them. I felt that this cup was very good, but I don’t know how much tea I used.

200F, palmful, 2min, 12oz water.
plum, fruity, thick, floral, creamy, wood/roast-hint

I think this is the best I’ve had this tea.

Daily work tea for what will probably be a busy Monday. Mmm, this chai is just the right combination of spicy and comforting. I added a splash of 2%, as I had considered last time. It doesn’t change much, just adds a touch of richness.

I bought 2 pouches and we have already gotten through most of one. It’s become an instant household favorite.

Last night, I stuck half the pot in the fridge. Sipping it sweet and cold tonight, I decided I wasn’t going to let this one go by. I used my Sips By discount and bought 2 ounces. Looking forward to it!

EDIT: My husband ended up drinking most of it. He is addicted! Since I made this post, we have gone through almost 4 pouches.

This one is from Sips By. Three fourths of my box this month was spiced, and I am loving it.

This tea is super aromatic! Mmm. Clove, cinnamon, cardamom, and gingerbread notes. Each scoop seems to have as much spice as it does black tea. Smells like your traditional masala chai, and maybe a bit of vanilla.

The black pepper gives this such a nice kick. I love any kind of pepper in chai. It really boosts the ginger burn. Could have sworn I smelled lavender while this was steeping, but there isn’t any actually in it. I didn’t add milk, though I can imagine it would be delicious if I had. Still tasting vanilla even though it’s not listed in the ingredients. This is so well-rounded and leaves my mouth tingling. Definitely one of the best chais I’ve had in a long time.

“A blend of Orthodox, CTC teas and our special masala spice mix” – an interesting combination for sure.

Went to the SF tea festival and picked some of this up after sampling. The tea maker was there talking about how this tea is from his backyard. His backyard is a tea farm of many acres, so not the small yard I was first imagining when he was describing it. They say the company gives back to the community and workers, so that is nice to hear after reading about other tea plantations that treat their workers poorly.
The tea has a very light grassy taste. It isn’t a bright flavor, but is subtle and mellow. The tea has an almost sweet quality to is as well. My mouth is left slightly dry after the sip where the flavors linger briefly then fade. It’s a nice cup when I want something subtle.

Awesome to hear about companies like this that appreciate their workforce!

I bought the sampler pouch from them, and it has this one in it! I haven’t tried it yet, though.

Ethical and thoughtful companies are the best! Gives me a little hope that all is not lost.
I didn’t see a sampler pack! Nice!

The Kumari Gold Organic Black Tea is the exact type of tea that reviewers love to experience. Hours can easily be spent observing this tea. The appearance of the dry leaves, the beautiful color of the liquid, the aroma and taste, and the observation of the infused leaves, were all a pleasure to behold. The time and care put into creating this product can be seen at every stage of analysis. The sweet, fruity, and slightly floral aroma and taste of the tea is remarkable, and how it carries into the aftertaste is also noteworthy. This may be the most impressive tea I have had from this box of samples from Nepal Tea. This is a tea that I would proudly add to my personal collection.

I found this tea on Amazon as a gift set and decided to give it a try. The tea leaves are thin and silvery gray. The aroma of the dry leaf is kind of like buttered salted greens.
I used my aroma cup set for this tea. the aroma is light on this one but it still kind of has that buttered salt aroma from the dry leaf. The flavor is nice and light. I can definitely catch the seaweed/kelpiness. It still has a nice light butter tone to it that just rounds the cup up in the aftertaste.
Overall I really enjoyed this tea. Good find!
