I had already tried the Caramel matcha in the green tea base, and it’s definitely been my favorite so far of the desert teas. When a bunch of people ordered the black matcha base for Cookies and Cream, I was a bit jealous. So, when Caramel came back on sale I knew this was my perfect opportunity to try it in black matcha form. I decided to spring for the “There’s Matcha in there?” Flavor level because I had trouble tasting the Cheesecake flavor at the Robust level when I ordered it with the White. Plus, I wasn’t sure how strong the black would be.
I couldn’t find any official instructions on what temperature of water to use. For green matcha you use green tea temperature water, so I figured for black matcha (since it’s black tea) I would use sort of less than boiling water.
I didn’t sift the matcha this time around, and that may have been a bad idea. I noticed the black matcha made big clumps a lot more than the green or even the white did.
I prepared my usual whisk in a bowl method, and it was too bitter for me without anything added. So, I popped in a little milk and a packet of raw sugar to help bring out the flavor.
Well, it definitely tastes like caramel and black tea. I don’t know how I feel about this matcha. It’s not bad, it’s not great. There’s still a little bit of bitterness that comes through. I may have to give it a few more experiments before I make a final verdict, but for now I’m not overwhelmed, but it’s not unbearable either.
As always, you can get the matcha in green or black form here: http://www.redleaftea.com/matcha-tea/caramel-matcha.html
And now it’s time for yet another desert matcha. I’ve been craving a coffee-flavored matcha for a while, and luckily this Tiramisu went on sale, so I snatched it up. It’s been a while since I’ve had tiramisu, but I remember it was creamy, with coffee and chocolatey undertones.
I ordered the 30g, Starter (Basic Grade), Flavor: Robust. After trying all these robust flavors, I’m a little scared to scale back down to the lower flavoring levels. Maybe I might bite the bullet one day and do it.
I prepared this the traditional way using hot water and a whisk. When I took a sip of the matcha plain, it was of course too bitter and grassy for me, and I couldn’t really taste any tiramisu. I added some milk and it .. still seemed to just taste like regular matcha with water. I’m having a hard time picking up this flavor. Did I maybe add too much matcha?
Since my water bottle Boysenberry matcha experiment was such a success yesterday, I decided to repeat it and see if I could get the flavor better. I put some matcha in a water bottle, shook it up, and drank some. And still.. not really getting any flavor. Not like the Boysenberry the other day. I’m getting the matcha, but I was really hoping for coffee. Maybe this flavor is just too subtle?
It’s possible that I may be burned out on my desert matchas and they are all blending together. I think I was hoping for more coffee and chocolate notes, but I’m really just getting creaminess. I probably should just order a straight-up coffee flavored one the next time around if that’s what I want. Your experience may differ, though.
As a reminder, you can buy this matcha here: http://www.redleaftea.com/matcha-tea/tiramisu-matcha.html
Still debating if I want to order that pumpkin pie matcha that will inevitably be on sale this week. Decisions, decisions…
Thanks Azzrian for this sample! :D
So, I have no idea what on earth boysenberries are, but now I want some if they’re similar in taste to this matcha. This tastes great!
I’m drinking it straight right now, and I’m loving the juicy, fruity, berry flavours I’m getting out of this. I may try this as a latte at some point and see how it tastes, but I’m not in a latte mood for now. I imagine it’ll taste great, though! Probably like a berry smoothie or something of the sort.
Yum!
I ordered the Lavender Matcha with a delicate level of flavoring, and it’s just right. It has a very pleasing level of Lavender. It isn’t too strong, but I can still taste the lavender. It’s really quite lovely!
At first, when I opened the pouch, the lavender seemed really STRONG to me, so I worried that maybe it was going to be too strong. And it IS strong, even at the delicate level of flavoring. But … it isn’t too strong, at least not for me because I love lavender. If you’re on the fence about lavender, though, you might find this to be a bit too much for you. If you love lavender … I’d recommend starting with the delicate level… don’t go too strong with this because I think that if the lavender was even just a tad stronger here it would be a bit too much for me.
As it is, though, I’m loving it.
It is very calming from the lavender, and yet I feel the invigorating energy coming from the Matcha. The matcha takes on a different kind of flavor with the lavender: it tastes more like a fresh, new, spring grass … sweet spring grass rather than a “vegetative, buttery” taste. The lavender has a sharpness to it which is very refreshing to the palate.
Very nice, I like this very much.
Ever since I’ve been ordering from Red Leaf, I feel like all my matcha purchases had been “desert type matchas”. So, when I saw that the Boysenberry matcha went on sale again (since I missed it the first time), I knew I had to grab it. I’m not sure if I’ve ever had boysenberry on its own, but I definitely know I’ve had it in yogurt form. There are several companies that make boysenberry yogurt, and it’s delicious.
I ordered the 30g of Boysenberry Matcha, Starter (Basic Grade), Flavor: Robust. I really really like berries, and thought about upping the flavor even more, but decided to keep it at robust for now and see how it goes.
For all my previous matchas, since they were desert matchas, I had been making them hot the traditional matcha way. Usually, after my first sip, it was a little too intense for me, so I added some milk to help bring out the flavor. But for boysenberry, hot and milk added just didn’t sound appealing to me, so I thought I would try something new. On the Red Leaf site, under all the matchas, they have a “steeping” tab that talks about how to prepare them. There’s the traditional way, and the “traditional with a chill”. I’ve always wanted to try this, but none of the matchas I ordered sounded appealing cold, so I was excited to finally try something new.
I took my water bottle and measured 1/4 teaspoon for matcha, per the instructions. I then filled my bottle with 16oz of water. You can also use a water bottle, but since I want to be environmentally friendly (and I like my filtered water), I decided to just use a regular bottle. I debated whether or not to sift the matcha, but decided I wouldn’t the first time around. I shook my bottle vigorously, and then sipped the results…
WOW!!! I was really impressed. With all the other matchas, I had a hard time tasting the flavor just straight, but here I can definitely taste both the matcha and the boysenberry. The matcha is not overpowering, but there are definitely berry undertones. I didn’t need to add any sweetener, although I bet if I did it would bring out the flavor even more.
I can’t believe how easy this is to make. It sure beats using a whisk (no pun intended) and making water on the kettle. Those are good too, but this is better. I’m thinking I need to order some more fruity matchas in the future, since I liked boysenberry so much. I’m not sure how this would taste hot, but it’s definitely delicious cold.
As a reminder, you can get the matcha here: https://www.redleaftea.com/matcha-tea/boysenberry-matcha.html
Just had this.
It was excellent.
I want to attribute my ability to correctly spell Tiramisu without having to use spell check to this matcha. Previously I always got it wrong even though it is one of my favorite desserts.
Thank you Red Leaf Tea.
The end.

Hi, my father-in-law likes baklava and I usually have to look up how it is spelled as well. I can see misspelling tiramisu; since I hear a’s or such in the pronunciation. I am drinking matcha today as well. I will add this one to my wish list for a try. Thank you!
Tiramisu Matcha
You can buy it here: http://www.redleaftea.com/matcha-tea/tiramisu-matcha.html
Very true to the taste of traditional tiramisu. You can even taste the chocolate dust powder on top of the tiramisu, along with the Vienna fingers and mascarpone! Very nice!
Many years ago, I had the BEST traditional tiramisu ever. I may never find another like it again in this lifetime. It was in a small Italian restaurant either in Kansas City, or Chicago, I so wish I could recall. The “story” was that it was once owned by the mob, and that the same family still owned it although they no longer ran the place, and supposedly were no longer mob related. lol Regardless, the food was amazing, it felt like being right there in Italy having a true Italian meal. The tiramisu, Oh my, so authentic! I have had many tiramisu since then always seeking for that elusive flavor I once had, but I have never found it. I would have to say that this matcha is a close one to that tiramisu, although I don’t get to bite into it, I can still taste the elements within it.
The liquor flavor, the chocolate power dusting on top, the Vienna Fingers, the mascarpone cheese, so delectable!
Granted I would still love to find a true tiramisu that tastes like the one I had long ago, but then I suppose I would have to travel not only to another state but also back into the deep dark recesses of my mind to remember where the heck that place was! That would be a long dark travel indeed! Hard to say if that place even still exists! Regardless here I can sit and sip on my tiramisu matcha and be quite happy! Its very good.
My matcha was composed as the following:
Size : Small
Matcha Quality: Starter (Basic Grade)
Flavor: Robust
Storage : Add Small Metal Tin Container (Holds up to 45g)
As always I highly suggest you get the tin – its a screw on lid that keeps your matcha fresh and dry and helps you keep from spilling it by trying to scoop it out of the bag.

This tea was gifted to me by my daughter. She was unsure if I would even drink a “green” drink. She left this with me with the instructions of how to mix with hot water and top off with milk. I felt assured that I could manage these directions. My first attempt at whipping up this matcha left me wondering, “What part of her instructions did I forget?” The taste was not as creamy as I remembered. As I was finishing off the last of my cup, I remembered that I had failed to add the half packet of raw sugar. Ah, the missing ingredient needed to really bring out the full raspberry freshness. I shared my mishap with her and she could not believe that I had actually drunk it without any sweetener added! I have pondered over her comment many times since that day. I drank it, I liked it. The quality of the matchas from Red Leaf Teas is top notch. This Raspberry Truffle matcha reminds me of a summer day picking ripe berries from the vine. Read more about this matcha here: http://www.redleaftea.com/matcha-tea/raspberry-truffle-matcha.html
The chocolate and matcha provide a rich backdrop to the ripe raspberries. I have been drinking tea for four years now. My tea drinking routine has greatly changed since I discovered Red Leaf Tea matchas. I went from drinking primarily black Ceylon teas to an almost exclusive daily matcha habit. Thank you Red Leaf Teas for opening the matcha door!
The third installment of my MATCHA MADNESS DAY!!! Jasmine was next in line from my order of five different kinds. This matcha smells like a nice light matcha. I really love jasmine so I had hoped that the scent would come thru, but it did not. For those that are not into a strong floral jasmine flavor, this is the jasmine matcha for you!
My first impression of this matcha was, “Where is the jasmine?” I opened up the pouch, preparing it for the tin that will keep it fresh. The small size fits perfect in the tin with a little wiggle room…enough to be able to get the measuring spoon in. I was unable to detect a “flavor” in this matcha. That of course does NOT mean it will taste bad, just not what I expected.
I always make sure to warm up my bowl and chasen under a bit under water, sitting in the bowl. My matcha does not cool down as fast when warming the bowl. All items ready…bowl, chasen, matcha, water and my sifter! I’m becoming a matcha pro now. No need to go looking for my tools, they were all handy. This matcha brings me to a place where I imagine sitting with friends passing around a matcha bowl contemplating our day. I would love to share this outdoors on a warm spring or summer day. Today is 60 degrees so I have to use my imagination.
First I mixed 2 oz of water with 1 perfect teaspoon of matcha. Once that was properly mixed I added a teeny bit of sugar and 6 oz of water. Last time I had a total of 7 oz and the matcha was bitter. After going back to my 8 oz I tried the matcha and still felt that it was a touch bitter. I added 2 more oz of water and a bit more sugar. I know it’s psychological, but I feel healthier drinking this matcha! It’s just so light and fresh and reminds me of a health food drink.
The smell of this matcha once mixed with water takes stayed the same, light and vegetal. This matcha is not available in flavor levels. If it had been, I would have order robust for sure. I am now curious how the Pure Jasmine Matcha compares to this one. I was torn between them when placing my order. The quality of the actual matcha is very good.
I’m not sure if this matcha will make my keep cupboard. Red Leaf Tea has so many flavor offerings that I think I’ll try those before going back to this matcha which doesn’t seem far off my normal matcha. My plan for the rest of Jasmine is to mix it to my health food drink which is a vanilla base. I ordered the large size so I will save a bit for next spring when I can enjoy it outside.
Here is how I ordered my Jasmine Matcha from Red Leaf Tea:
Size: Large
Quality: Believe it was Starter grade – you do not choose and option here
Flavor: You do not choose an option here
Storage: Air tight refill flat pouch – would definitely recommend purchasing a tin for your matcha to keep it fresh. I did not order one this time since I already had a tin.

Another addition to my MATCHA MADNESS DAY!!! Pina Colada is next in line from my order of five different kinds. This matcha smells like Hawaii in tea form! I’ve only been there once and have missed it ever since. I’m sitting here in 60 degree weather drinking matcha that will take me to a warmer place.
My first impression of this matcha was heaven! I opened up the pouch, preparing it for the tin that will keep in the yummy goodness. The small size fits perfect in the tin with a little wiggle room…enough to be able to get the measuring spoon in. I could not wait to dig in to this matcha. If I had a piece of pineapple in the fridge I would have paired this matcha with it. I think that next time I will try preparing this iced and be sure to have some pineapple on hand!
I always make sure to warm up my bowl and chasen under a bit under water, sitting in the bowl. My matcha does not cool down as fast when warming the bowl. All items ready…bowl, chasen, matcha, water and my sifter! I didn’t forget it this time. I think I might need to get a matcha preparation bag so that all my tools are handy. I tend to get excited and forget a key item.
First I mixed 2 oz of water with 1 perfect teaspoon of matcha. Once that was properly mixed I added a teeny bit of sugar and 5 oz of water. I added a bit less water this time as I wanted the matcha to be thicker.
The smell of this matcha once mixed with water takes on different notes…almost a chemical smell. I did get notes of coconut and a touch of pineapple but it’s almost a fake smell now like an airfreshener. I’m surprised that the smell would change from the powdered form to when water was added. I purchased robust as I love intense flavor, maybe I went too strong on this one. The quality of the actual matcha is very good, I think it’s the flavoring that is throwing it off. I just ordered the starter/basic grade.
I’m just so sad that this flavor will not make my keep cupboard. My plan for the rest of Pina Colada is to mix it first as a latte, then try it over ice. I might try cold brewing it in the fridge, but I’m not sure you can do that with matcha. If all else fails, I will add it to my health food drink which is a vanilla base. I’m hoping that maybe it’ll be perfect one of these ways so I can add it to the keep cupboard!
Here is how I ordered my Pina Colada Matcha from Red Leaf Tea:
Size: Small
Quality: Starter (Basic Grade)
Flavor: Robust
Storage: Air tight refill flat pouch – would definitely recommend purchasing a tin for your matcha to keep it fresh. I did not order one this time since I already had a tin.

Preparation
Welcome to my MATCHA MADNESS DAY!!! I’m starting with Cotton Candy first, from my order of five different kinds. To say I’m excited is an understatement! I loved Cotton Candy as a kid and still at the age of thirty-seven will buy cotton candy when I see it. My hubby humors my childlike excitement.
My first encounter with this matcha was heaven! I opened up the pouch, preparing it for the tin that will keep in the yummy goodness. The small size fits perfect in the tin with a little wiggle room…enough to be able to get the measuring spoon in.
I unpacked my matcha bowl that I specifically as for at Christmas time so that I could properly prepare matcha. Then came the chasen from its tight plastic case. Since this was its first use I warmed it up a bit under water, sitting in the bowl. I think part of what I love about matcha is the preparation that feels very ceremonial. All items ready…bowl, chasen, matcha and water!
First I mixed 2 oz of water with 1 perfect teaspoon of matcha. Of course in my preparation I was so excited and almost forgot to sift it first..disaster avoided! Once that was properly mixed I added a teeny bit of sugar (this is cotton candy of course) and 6 oz of water. After I properly exhausted any strength from my whipping right hand I was ready.
The smell of this matcha is not as strong once mixed with water. I did purchase robust as I love intense flavor and didn’t want to mess around with trying delicate first and working my way up. I had to stop myself from order all of them – “There’s Matcha in there?!” level. The taste is there though! The quality of this matcha is very tasty and I just ordered the starter/basic grade. It doesn’t taste too vegetal or clash with the sweetness off the cotton candy. I think next time I will add jus t a bit more sugar as I didn’t want to go overboard the first time and not really get the original taste of the matcha.
My plan for the rest of Cotton Candy is to mix it first as a latte. Then, try adding to my health food drink which is a vanilla base. So I’ll be back to let you know how that works out!
Here is how I ordered my Cotton Candy Matcha from Red Leaf Tea:
Size: Small
Quality: Starter (Basic Grade)
Flavor: Robust
Storage: Air tight refill flat pouch – would definitely recommend purchasing a tin for your matcha to keep it fresh. I did not order one this time since I already had a tin.

Preparation
OH my! This is yummy!
I was amazed at how fragrant it is. From the moment I opened the pouch, I could smell the aroma of the Matcha, it literally filled the kitchen. My mouth began to water. I love hazelnuts – I live in the Pacific Northwest, after all! – but I’ll be honest, I didn’t expect to love this as much as I do. I figured I’d like it, but, this is really exceeding any expectations I may have had. Blowing them away with how delicious it is.
I ordered the starter Matcha with the distinctive level of flavoring which is my go-to specs on most Matcha. And it works very well for my personal tastes … however, I will say that usually I find that the distinctive level usually delivers a well-balanced Matcha that tastes pretty equally of Matcha and flavor … but here, the Hazelnut does win out over the Matcha.
That does not mean that the matcha is not tasted … it definitely is there, but the hazelnut does outshine the flavor of the matcha a bit, so if you want a more balanced bowl of Matcha, with this particular flavor I might recommend to try the delicate level of flavoring.
As it is though, I am very happy with the distinctive flavoring. This is deliciously hazelnut, with tasty notes of sweet, vegetative Matcha … and they meld together very nicely.
Very yummy … I’m wondering how it might taste with a pinch of salt, so this is hopefully something I’ll remember the next time I whisk up a bowl of this Matcha!
Wow, that sounds amazing! And I bet it would be awesome to mix with the Carmel Matcha I ordered! Note to self….
Thanks for mentioning about how balanced or not the different flavors there are between distinctive and delicate. would the type of matcha (white, black, etc.) effect the flavoring?
Just made a hot latte out of this. Gosh its so good! I think I like this better hot. The sweetness really comes out more I find when its hot.
So Red Leaf Tea posted that they were coming out with a whole bunch of new flavors. So everyone got to vote for which new matcha flavor would be first to come out and go on sale. The winner was Cookies and Cream. So when I saw this i was so excited and just had to pick some up to try for myself. How can anyone say no to cookies and cream. So this is the second matcha ive ever tried.
Now a little information before i review this. About 2 years ago I found out that I have a gluten allergie, so I cant eat cookies at all. So when I saw this flavor, I knew I needed it. I miss cookies so much! And gluten free cookies dont even begin to compare to regular cookies. I love when I see things like this, cause I can feel like I’m cheating on the no gluten diet and not get sick :)
So what I ordered was… Size: Small (30 grams), Quality: Basic Grade, Flavor: Delicate. This is where you can get it http://www.redleaftea.com/matcha-tea/cookies-and-cream-matcha.html . So this time I thoguht I’d try it as a iced latte first ( thanks to Azzrian for giving me her recipe, I tweeked it about but mostly its her recipe). So what I did was took 1 tsp of my cookies and cream matcha and put it through my sifter. Added 2 oz of hot water and started whisking away until its all was blended. Added ice to my glass, then mixed about half a cup of milk into my bowl with the matcha. After everything was mixed together I poured it into my glass with the ice. Mixed once more a viola! Iced Cookies and Cream latte. Its tastes as great as it sounds. I found it a little bit bitter so I added half a packet of splenda to see if that would help and yum! Yup defitly not as bitter now. I wouldnt say it taste exactly like cookies , but hey cookies dont have matcha in it, so for a matcha flavor definitly a great flavor! Its got a nice sweet creamy flavor. I find with this one I dont taste the matcha as strongly as I do in the caramel matcha, but im not complaining at all both are amazingly delicious. But I think I prefer this one over the caramel one.
For all you gluten allergie or sensitivite people, this didnt make me sick at all. On the ingredients list it just says cookies and cream flavor, so I wasnt to sure if any of the ingredients would have gluten in it. But so far so good.
Nice review, Cedes! I’m waiting for my first flavored Matcha, Caramel, to come. It’s a real walk on the wild side for me (I’ve only ever had Matcha plain, which I love), but I’m looking forward to the adventure. Re: the gluten free topic, I’ve found a few really fun paleo/gluten free sites, one of them being www.againstallgrain.com I can’t really much sweet stuff either, but I have made a few of her recipes (the meringues…ahhhh…& a few muffins…& her bread is interesting & doesn’t have a bunch of crap in it like most gluten free breads).
Oh congrats on coming on the matcha train. You will be hooked! The caramel was the first I tried as well and now I need all of them. I will need to try some of these recipes, thanks so much! I find it hard to find good gluten free food that doesn’t taste like dust or have no taste at all.
Cedes, do you like snickerdoodles? I got these gluten-free snickerdoodles, once, that were fantastic. As a result, I think would feel comfortable trying other products from the same company. It’s been a while since I had them, but I think it was this one: http://www.enjoylifefoods.com/soft-baked-cookies/snickerdoodle/
Brandy Matcha
http://www.redleaftea.com/matcha-tea/brandy-matcha.html
Okay so for those of you hesitating thinking this is going to taste too much like something a staunch old man sitting in a ritzy Victorian library would drink, its not. Its also not like the stuff the teens would swill behind the bleachers in high school during winter football games. Wait, maybe that was just at my school. Anyway this stuff is GOOOOOD!
Will Work For Tea said in their review it reminded them of Juicy Fruit gum and they totally hit the nail on the head with that assessment! Had this not been named “Brandy” I would have thought it was a fruit blend – not a punch like Hawaiian Punch, not even a tropical mixture, but just a really yummy sweet fruit blend of some kind. I really wish I could pick out specific fruit flavor elements to relate to you but I can’t. Fruit Medley is all I can think of but there is a whipped cream like aspect to it, something that really makes you feel like you bit into some ripe juicy fruit (no pun intended) and it really does taste like that gum! This is one your kids would LOVE! Seriously if you want to get your kids or anyone in the family into matcha I would suggest this or the butterscotch matcha! Just make a latte with some milk, and some vanilla or sweet cream non dairy creamer! Add ice, stir LOVE!
Now as for the Brandy aspect here. Its really not all that present to me. Yes I do get a SLIGHT and I mean SLIGHT alcohol effect – sort of a little twang or ting, but not really so much warming as brandy is known for.
When I was younger, in my teens, I rode both western and equestrian, and trained horses. That was another life time ago. We would always have some brandy on us to keep warm in the winter wether out on the ranch repairing fences or preparing for a fox hunt (we did not really hunt the foxes I would have no part in that so don’t worry) it was more of a Mock Hunt. LOL This matcha does bring back some fond memories of that but its not the same, and I doubt that you really could get the same result from anything but brandy itself but for all intents and purposes this is a very good flavor, a really nice experience, and one I will absolutely be ordering again! I know I say that about a lot of the matcha I have tried, and I have tried a lot of them but this along with about 5 others are THE matcha I can’t be without! The “alcohol” effect is just enough for those who have had brandy to recognize but not so much that those who do not like brandy, have never had it, or should not have it, won’t even notice. Its like being able to recognize any flavor, you kind of have to have experienced it before to know what it is. Without knowing what it is all you will notice is this AMAZING fruit festival in your mouth!
My matcha was composed of the following:
Size : Small
Matcha Quality: Starter (Basic Grade)
Flavor: Robust
Storage : Add Small Metal Tin Container (Holds up to 45g)

“Its like being able to recognize any flavor, you kind of have to have experienced it before to know what it is.”
Well said!!
When I was 6 I had problems with restlessness & insomnia at night, & was prone to slipping out of the house while everyone was asleep & walking to the playground in my PJs. My Mom started giving me a warm cup of milk with a little brandy in it, which she called a Hot Toddy. It definitely helped, although later in my life Brandy became my alcohol of choice. I haven’t had a drink in 29 years (and for good reason), but I haven’t always loved the taste of Brandy!
disclaimer: I do NOT recommend giving children alcohol to get them to sleep,or for any other reason, especially if there is a long, long history of alcoholism in their family!
OH yes I have heard of the Hot Toddy :)
29 years is a long time! Good on you ! The stuff is poison anyway really.
People were not educated back then – but the disclaimer is a good one!
Drinking this while I work. I’m drinking it straight because I’m at school and don’t have all the fun stuff like milk or marshmallows… (sob) on the plus side it tastes great and I got a message from C.R. to try the new Netflix for Tea site and put in my sample order there. So I’ll have lots of fun trying new stuff :D
Preparation
that’s what someone else compared it to. It’s just an easy site to navigate and add things to your sample Que. Really most tea sites are easy to navigate though :D
Netflix for tea?? Whaaaaaat?! That got me really excited until I realized that it’s pretty much like any other monthly tea subscription. *Sigh
The “Netflix for tea” is Makers Tea, if you sign up you get to make a queue of free samples and they send you 3 samples at a time, it’s not really a tea of the month thing – just free stuff! lol
Okay this is my first review of the awesome cheesecake matcha. So first things first you can buy it at http://www.redleaftea.com/matcha-tea/cheesecake-matcha.html
and I highly recommend that you do. So now for the actual review. I tried this the modern way of putting a teaspoon in a cup adding hot water and then using my black & decker mechanical frother to get it all nice and foamy. At first sip it didn’t taste that well when it was hot but once it cooled down a little it was great! I don’t eat much cheesecake because it is soo hard for people to get it right but Red Leaf Tea really knows what they’re doing. It is evident in the smell of the matcha powder (which will torture you as you wait for the water to boil) I next tried this tea with milk. I put hot water to about half a cup frothed it and then added milk and frothed it again. It was even better! I did not think it was possible. I also wish to note that the buying was simple and yes they do ship to Canada (YAAAAY).
I got the starter grade Matcha with robust flavouring and only the small 32grams (which I now deeply regret and plan to order more the moment I have more cash!) I also purchased the tin as the bags are not resealable and the tins take up a lot less room than other teas I’ve bought. I bought 3 Matchas from Red Leaf Tea and they all easily fit in my mailbox, it takes awhile for an order to come to Canada but this is true of all U.S.P.S. shipped things so don’t worry it will come! Free shipping comes if you order over $75 (super easy to get that amount so you’ll almost always have free shipping) Honestly I may be new to tea and Matcha specifically but I know what I like and this I absolutely love.
Preparation
I like it better with milk but if I have to I can drink it straight :D you made me sooo jealous with your smoothies but now I can make my own (insert evil grin here)
I’m embarrassed to admit that I’ve only ever made matcha lattes. I’m not particularly interested in drinking it straight :D
OK… so I hadn’t planned on reviewing a new Matcha today, but times they are a changin’ … so I decided to get busy and review at least one Matcha today.
Mmm! I really wasn’t too sure about this Matcha. I’m not a big cookies n cream person. I LOVE oreo cookies, but I don’t so much like them ground up in vanilla ice cream or processed into white chocolate candy bars. I’d rather eat the ice cream and oreos separately. But, because this was a new flavor, and because it was on sale, I thought, I’ll try it. It might be good.
And it is. Sweet and yummy… it’s a bit like dunking oreo cookies in a bowl of Matcha, except that I’m drinking the cookie. I love that I can taste the “cookie” – not just chocolate, but I can taste the bake-y, cake-y cookie … all that’s missing is the crunch of the oreo.
YUM! Even if you missed out on the sale for this one, you should still try it – it’s totally worth it!
Try the candy corn Oreos yet? Tasty, but they don’t hold a candle to the birthday cake (buttercream) ones that were around this summer.
I haven’t tried the candy corn Oreos. I tried the rainbow sherbet ones… not the birthday cake ones. The rainbow sherbet were unbelievably good… After I opened the package and tried a couple, I hid the rest so that nobody else in the household would get their paws on it! LOL
Um, we actually already finished our pack of Candy Corn Oreos, though I thought they tasted like bakery birthday cupcakes. And we are almost through the orange seasonal Oreos. The seasonals seem to have a tiny bit more filling, or it is a little sweeter. We have to mail special Oreos to N. Ireland when they come out because apparently they have only one kind and that is Doible Stuff, and daughter’s boyfriend and his brother in law are MAD for Oreos.
Finally tried matcha shaken up in a water bottle. It’s so delicious! Really refreshing, not at all bitter, with a good hit of both green tea and boysenberry flavour. I’m almost getting a cotton candy vibe from it prepared like this. This is so candy-like in flavour, but really fruity and natural too. Yum!
I really love matcha like this. I wasn’t sure if I would, but its fantastic. It’s strange, I like my iced teas straight and unsweetened, but I can never resist a bit of milk and sugar in my hot tea. I don’t think I’d like this sweetened. I love that matcha can act as a replacement for those little crystal light thingers. Much healthier and tastier. I never drink enough water, but I can see myself drinking more if it has TEA in it :D
