Let me begin by saying that I’ve read all the reviews for this matcha, and although it sounds delicious, I never thought Bavarian Cream would be a flavour I crave. I love donuts with fillings, don’t get me wrong, but they aren’t something I jones for in the middle of the night. (I haven’t been pregnant yet, so that could change! Haha). I guess what I’m trying to say is – I already have the Cheesecake Matcha, how amazing could Bavarian Cream be?
The answer? Extremely amazing. Absolutely amazing. Exclaim it to the heavens! I got the delicate flavouring as usual (http://www.redleaftea.com/matcha-tea/bavarian-cream-matcha.html).
There’s something about this flavour that took me by surprise and wooed me. The smell is sweet and creamy, no mistaking it for “vanilla” or something generic, it’s quite a specific scent. The aroma is true to the taste, hallelujah! There’s almost a “thickness” to it, and certainly a richness, that is reminiscent of its namesake. Creamy creamy creamy! The smell and taste of biting into that perfect area of donut where all the cream is. I personally like to save that part for the last, if I’m lucky. ;)
Thankfully with this matcha, I get the best part all to myself!
My personal favourite way to enjoy this matcha is as a hot latte with a pinch of sugar, to make the flavour pop and enhance the cream (if it can get any creamier – my goodness!). That said, I also shook it up in a water bottle and took it to work as an iced tea and again it really surprised me! No sugar added + true Bavarian Cream flavour = a happy Ash-Lee servicing customers with a buzz! Thanks Red Leaf Tea!
mmm!
I really didn’t think I would fall in love with this flavour, but I’m drinking it out of my water bottle as an iced tea at work today and it’s creamy and delish! Really does taste like the inside of a donut!
haha I am lovin’ it.
LUSH Hiring Party #2 happens tonight in a few hours. Wish me luck as I have no tattoos OR a crazy hair colour! So I will need everyone else to be just as plain so I can get the job pls. haha
My Red Leaf Tea order came in the mail yesterday! I did a happy dance through the hallways back to my apartment (and got a few strange looks on the way). First order of business : try my matcha!
I went with the destinctive flavor on this one because I am a HUGE cheesecake fan and I’m also a matcha newbie, so I thought destinctive would be a good choice. I also included a bamboo whisk and scoop in my order and boy am I glad I did! The whisk I recieved is so neat! It even comes with a little case that I can store it in without worrying about the bamboo getting all messed up and I know it will keep it’s shape better. I have to say, if you are preparing your matcha without a bamboo whisk you are really missing out! Using the whisk really did change my results. Instead of my matcha being grainey, it’s now all blended very well and thick. When I prepared matcha with my metal kitchen whisk it was never thick like this and the matcha always ended up settling a bit at the bottom of my cup.
If you don’t have a whisk you should include one in your order next time! It is well worth the investment and very affordable through Red Leaf.
For my first cup I made my matcha the traditional way. Sift matcha, add water, whisk until frothy, add a bit more water and enjoy. Mmm I’m getting such a different result with this matcha than with the tiramisu I’d had previously. I think that’s due to the flavoring difference (destinctive instead of delicate) and the fact that I have the proper tools now. It’s thick and the green tea base is much less sharp than I previously remember. It’s there, but it’s more enjoyable this time. The cheesecake flavor is very smooth.
Immediately I knew I had to make another cup as a latte. This really allowed the creamy cheesecake flavor to come through. Toward the end of the cup I was really able to taste the buttery crust. I made a latte for my boyfriend and he really enjoyed his too! Success.

And don’t forget to pick up a bamboo whisk while you’re at it! You won’t regret it.
It seems like just yesterday that it was a close race between Pumpkin Pie and Black Cherry for flavor of the week. Black Cherry squeaked by to win, and I happily jumped on the chance to order it. I was a little hesitant, since sometimes cherry flavors can be a little too artificial tasting, but I went with it anyway. As usual, I got the robust flavoring on this with the basic matcha. I took a whiff of the matcha, and I could definitely tell it was black cherry – no question.
This was prepared in a water bottle with 1/2 teaspoon of matcha. I put it in, shook it up, and tasted my beautiful creation.
WOW!! This is really good. I was not expecting much from this matcha, but am happily surprised. This is just as good as Boysenberry, maybe a little bit better. The black cherry flavor is potent, but not overpowering and not too sickly either. No sweetener needed. If you are a black cherry fan, you will not be disappointed. It definitely does not taste like cough syrup. I really want to get some cola matcha and mix this together to see how it would go. I bet it would be delicious.
Definitely glad I decided to take a risk and buy this matcha on sale.
As a reminder, you can buy this matcha here: http://www.redleaftea.com/matcha-tea/black-cherry-matcha.html
Yum watermelon! When I opended the package of this all I could think was summer! And why didnt I get this before the summer eneded. You get this lucious sweet smell that just fills my house, its smells like joly ranchers! Everytime I open the container everyone in the house knows exactly what I’m doing. So what I got was Size: Small (30 grams), Quality: Basic Grade, Flavor: Delicate. I had to try this cold first. So I made myself a Iced latte, I can taste the earthiness of the matcha but there if this sweet juicy watermelon taste that is mouth watering. I have to say out of all the matchas I’ve tried so far, this is the one that I taste the matcha the most. I did get it in delicate I bet this would be amazing in robust!
I made my latte by adding 1 tsp of my watermelon matcha and put it through my sifter. Added 2 oz of hot water and started whisking away until its all was blended. Added ice to my glass, then mixed about half a cup of milk into my bowl with the matcha. After everything was mixed together I poured it into my glass with the ice. I did add a bit of sweetener to bring out more of the watermelon sweetness. Yum this is the perfect drink for a nice summer day. I only wish watermelons where still in season, after reading reviews of people putting in watermelon chunks I want to try it.
Its lucious, its sweet, its earthy, its great. Alot of the times with drinks that have watermelon flavor they just dont taste like watermelon at all. This is a very authentic watermelon flavor to me. Its crazy who would have thought watermelon and matcha would go together, but it does and its delicious. It amazes me how Red Leaf gets there flavors so spot on. Here is the link if anyone else wants to try this delicious flavor http://www.redleaftea.com/matcha-tea/watermelon-matcha.html
Since I had such good luck with the Boysenberry matcha, I decided to try another fruit-y matcha. There are so many fruit flavors and I couldn’t pick one, so I went with this blend of tropical fruits called “Tropical Matcha”. I got the robust flavoring, as always, with just the basic matcha. When I first got a whiff of the matcha it smelled very fruity, almost candy sweet. Not sure what to expect.
Like before with my Boysenberry, I put 1/4 teaspoon in a water bottle a shook it up to give myself a nice fruity drink. The flavor is very light on this one. It tastes a lot like a fruit punch of some sort. It’s hard to specifically point out one type of fruit over another. If you’re a fan of punches, I’d definitely give this a try. Since I was having a hard time detecting the flavor, I added another 1/4 teaspoon. The flavor was a little stronger, but I didn’t really get that overly strong matcha taste, which is good. I bet tossing some sweetener in here would bring out the fruit taste even more.
While I don’t enjoy this quite as much as the Boysenberry, it’s another good chilled matcha that takes little prep work.
As a reminder, you can buy this matcha here: http://www.redleaftea.com/matcha-tea/tropical-matcha.html
First time getting matcha from the legendary Red Leaf! After much deliberation, I ended up picking the Pumpkin Pie because hey, it’s fall.
You can get it here: http://www.redleaftea.com/matcha-tea/pumpkin-pie-matcha.html
My first adventure into this matcha led to me using too much (1 tsp) by accident—although it was incredibly strong (especially in the spicy note), the powder blended more smoothly than any other I’ve tried. It was really easy to whisk and froth with my bamboo whisk. Also, the color is worth noting—this matcha is so luxuriously green!
My first try, like I said, was a learning experience, but the second time I made it, I used about 1/4 tsp, some hot water, and soymilk. Frothed the matcha and water together, added the soymilk, and BAM! This is fantastic. The pumpkin pie flavor is spot on. I would recommend Delicate for this flavor because of the strength of the spices.
The texture of this is worth noting—in other companies’ matchas I’ve noticed a lot of silty residue toward the end of the bowl. Not so for this one; it’s incredibly smooth and blends perfectly, even when I used 4x the amount I should have by accident. Also, the aroma of the pumpkin and spices is intoxicating!
It’s perfect! Can’t wait to have more matcha-y adventures with this one.
Options:
Size : Small
Matcha Quality: Starter (Basic Grade)
Flavor: Delicate
Try some; you’ll be glad you did.
It’s Friday so bring out the cola matcha! Unfortunately I can’t enjoy this cold with ice today because I’m at school and the water cooler is empty, the water fountain is murky and the cafeteria water only comes hot. So hot water cola matcha it is. I’ll wait a little for it to cool down :D
Preparation
Okay this is the second time I’ve had this matcha. It was pretty good hot but it wasn’t at it’s best for me. Then I tried it with water and ice and it was awesome! next time though I need this one a bit heavier on flavour. I got this basic grade, delicate flavour, small (30g) with the metal tin. I was a little bag challenged when opening the bag and spilled some (the dog licked it up but didn’t suffer any negative effects from it) bye-bye actual cola hello cola matcha :D
Preparation
I have not tried it yet, but now I wander how it would work with carbonated water and ice.
If anyone tries it, let us know :-)
Another tea I must try with Vanilla ice cream (I’ve put the ice cream on the shopping list) should taste like a Cola float then I would think :D
So this is my second matcha today. I probly wont sleep now, oh well totally worth it.
I am a lover of all things chocoalte. Now Ive never had a truffle so I guess I can’t say I’m a chocolate master, but when I saw this I thought of those little chocoalte boxes you get that always have the chocolates with the raspberry fillings. So I might not be the best at figuring out if this is a real authentic raspberry chocoalte truffle flavor. So this is my first raspberry flavor and first chocolate flavor from Red Leaf so I’m quite excited.
Now alot of choclate flavored drinks I’ve tried either taste way too overpowering or have this weird fake choclate taaste. So I was a little hesitent when I was thinking of purchasing this. But everything I’ve had from Red Leaf has been great, so I finally gave in and got it. The smell when you open the bag is just amazing. Who doesnt like the smell of choclate and raspberrys. So what I got was Size: Small (30 grams), Quality: Basic Grade, Flavor: Delicate. Ive been making all my matchas cold, so I decided to do this one cold aswell. So I made an Iced Latte with milk, and oh my gosh. Its sweet from the raspberrys and the chocolate, but its not overpowering with the choclate, I get the matcha but its not the primary flavor I get. Its got a nice creamy flavor to it. Guh its so good!
I bet this would be amazing as a hot latte. Even just thinking about it makes my mouth water, Raspberry Truffle Latte just sounds delicious. That is going to be my next drink with this. I usually add sugar with my lattes but this one didnt need it at all. Now I cant wait until tomorrow to try this as a hot latte, I’ve limited myself to 2 matcha a day so I dont drink it too fast. Come on tomorrow! For all you choclate lovers who want it, I got it here http://www.redleaftea.com/matcha-tea/raspberry-truffle-matcha.html
So today I decided to make my own pretzels for some reason, so while I was waiting for the dough to rise I made myself a cold latte with this. So I was all excited for it, it seems someone had used all the milk! But I needed my matcha fix so I tried it with almond milk. YUM! its brings a amazing nuttiness to the spiciness of this matcha. I think I might be making them with almond milk from now on yum.
Oh with that new matcha salt from DT would probably good on top of it! And matcha added to pretzels would be good too :)
Its amazing! I’m going to try it with other flavors and see if its just as good with others. Its a great alternative if you can drink milk.
So its now officially fall, and when I think of fall I think of the beautiful senery from the autum leaves, halloween ( which is my favorite holiday), dressing up, pumpkin carvings and pumpkin pie of course.
My all time favorite fall drink is a pumpkin spice latte from starbucks, but its so expensive. So when I saw this i was like hummm I think I found a sustitute. I absolutly love pumpkin pie, its the one thing I will eat even though I know I will be feeling awful after (gluten allergie). I knew I needed to try this right away. So I finally got my package which took about 6 days to arrive. And as soon as I opened the package the most amazing sweet and spicy pie smell came out and filled the room. My friend came in and said it smelt like fall in my house, its smelt that amazing. I swear if I closed my eyes and smelt it I would think it was pie and not matcha.
So what I got was Size: Small (30 grams), Quality: Basic Grade, Flavor: Delicate. Which can be bought here http://www.redleaftea.com/matcha-tea/pumpkin-pie-matcha.html. So I made this into a hot latte by sifting 1 tsp of the matcha into a bowl and added 2oz of water and whisking away, I reall suck at getting a foam. And I added my matcha mixture to 6oz of steaped milk and viola Pumpkin Pie Latte. Okay so I couldn’t wait for it to cool down so I sipped it piping hot…. not the best idea, all I can taste is cloves. So wait made myself wait a bit so it would cool down, second sip, a little better added a half a teaspoon of sweeter. Amazing! Now I do get a lot more clove then anything else in this, but there is a pie sweetness in it.
Now don’t get me wrong this isn’t Starbucks but its just as good and easier on my pocket and I bet alot less sugar. I can see this becoming my new mid day drink. Its so weird you can taste everything that is in a pumpkin pie in a liquid that is green. Its kinda a mind trick to me. You look at this green liquid and think that isnt going to taste anything like pumpkin pie but it totally does. And you can still taste that matcha, its not BAM matcha but its there. Im definitly going to have to order a big order of this. So delicious! This is the perfect fall drink. Im going to have to make lattes for everyone at thanksgiving so they can all try this.
I am so pleased! My hubby is a picky eater and it is hard to get him to try new things. He has started drinking green and oolong teas and that is a huge step forward, and he takes them plain which is so much better for him. I am hoping he will take a shine to the smoothies I have been making lately, so I gave this a try tonight.
One organic banana, four large strawberries, a big scoop of Greek yogurt, some honey, crushed ice, and a splash of milk. To this I added one teaspoon of Black Cherry Matcha. I did not sift it this time since it was in the blender, but I have found that when using the aerolatte it is best to sift. The good news is that he liked it and drank his whole smoothie. The last time I had him try one he said it wasn’t really his thing, he wasn’t a smoothie person, but that one didn’t have cherry matcha in it!
How funny that I just had Black Cherry Matcha earlier today. I just made a latte with some soy milk, and found it to be delicious. This flavor is in my top 3 from Red Leaf, the other 2 being Caramel and Pumpkin Pie.
I love the caramel, especially served like hot cocoa, love the black cherry as cold matcha water or in smoothies, and my daughter drinks two pumpkin pie lattes a day! It is hard to keep her in matcha! LOL! I love the almond as well, and Bavarian Cream makes a divine latte, too.
I am on my doctor’s naughty list, and I just saw him for the first time yesterday. I had said I would get my triglycerides down and at first, I did drop them 100 points, but they need to come down more and haven’t. My biggest vice is an almost nightly chocolate shake. I am trying to replace that with matcha lattes or smoothies. Much healthier, much lower in sugar.
I have Sil to thank for planting the seed that I should be drinking these. I had thought of it but it didn’t sound that good until she mentioned adding the flavored matcha. YES! I have been experimenting a lot and today was definitely a success.
I used a scoop of Greek yogurt, milk, honey, a banana, and three strawberries – just three because they were HUGE. I sifted in one teaspoon of black cherry matcha and I have to say this was so so sweet and fruity! I have had smoothies without the matcha and I tell you this really perked it up. So now I want more fruit flavors for when I want it super fruity, and plenty of creamy flavors for when I want more creamy and milkshake-y.
Looking forward to some positive changes in my weight, health, outlook, and energy levels!
Here is where to get it! http://www.redleaftea.com/matcha-tea/black-cherry-matcha.html
You go girl! You can do it! :) The last year I made a positive change to my weight/health etc. This year I’m trying to sustain that. :) So…if i can do it! anyone can! :)
For when you really need a chocolate fix, frozen bananas, almond milk and quality cocoa makes a dreamy chocolate shake experience. Add peanut butter if you’re feeling decadent. And less caffeine than matcha. :)
Okay, don’t get on my case. No need to throw stones.
I really wanted some bubbles after lunch. After eleven years of being on Omeprazole I am trying to get off of it. Rebound reflux is trying to get me. But I also wanted matcha. LIGHTBULB!
I mixed 1/2 teaspoon of black cherry matcha in a little bit of cold water, whisking it well with my plain metal kitchen whisk. This was then poured into ginger ale! Now I have my bubbly cold drink and my matcha at once!
What does it taste like? Have you ever had a ginger ale and sherbet float? I love them. We usually use lime sherbet and pour cold ginger ale (kept in refrigerator) over it and wait just a second so ice crystals form. That is the kind of flavor treat I am having right now!
The fruity cherry flavor goes great with the ginger ale, but I bet the lime flavor matcha would be a dead on match for my lime sherbet floats!
This is the third matcha I drank with my daughter today. For this one I simply swirled the powder in a water bottle with less than an ounce of water. Once it was thoroughly dissolved, I added cold water to about the 12 ounce mark. Delicious and flavorful, this is refreshing and tasty with no sugar at all.
When I started looking at the Red Leaf Tea website, I drooled over all the dessert flavored matcha. I didn’t give the fruit flavored ones a second glance and really didn’t think I would ever purchase any of them, mostly because I thought I would only be using the matcha for lattes and I just didn’t picture milk and fruity flavor together. I know they go, but I guess my taste buds were being juvenile wanting all the caramel and mocha and pumpkin pie flavors.
Then a couple of people said they swirled the matcha in a water bottle and made a cold drink. What? What! So I tried it with caramel and found that it really does work. On the first sips I thought it was going to taste weak, but the flavor builds and builds. However, caramel is a dessert flavor and I really love it with milk, hot or iced. A lightbulb popped on over my head as I realized that fruit flavored matcha would be most excellent this way!
I was really happy when I saw the Black Cherry flavor go on sale. I got a large tin of it because this is one I think I can entice my son into trying! I ordered the robust flavor level, but I really want to try some of the more delicate flavor levels soon because several people have said they are still plenty strong enough.
You can order it here: http://www.redleaftea.com/matcha-tea/black-cherry-matcha.html
I got the tin because I love the twist off lid. A pop off lid could be a disaster with fine matcha powder, so be careful what you store it in! I have a regular, short tin of green tea from another company with a lid that gets stuck and every time I open it the tea goes EVERYWHERE! You don’t want that to happen with your fine matcha powder!
The Mocha matcha is almost gone, and soon I will have enough tins that I don’t have to order one every time! Then I can afford even more matcha.
As soon as the Black Cherry matcha arrived, I opened the package. The kids sniffed and their eyes grew wide. Cherry candy! The Black Cherry candle from Yankee Candle that my kids refuses to light because they don’t ever want it to go away. What a powerful, sweet, amazing aroma! Not rooibos-y cough syrup, but cherry candy, as sweet as it was when you were seven years old!
I grabbed a teaspoon, scooped it about half full and put it in my bottle. I added less than an ounce of water and swirled and shook it. Then I added cold water to the top and shook it a little again. So 1/2 teaspoon gave me about 15 ounces of drink at least.
Perfection! AMAZING! Fruit flavored matcha, look out! I want all of you! I know my son is going to go wild for this. This is going to be a perfect work-out drink for him, and so easy it is crazy. WOW!
I saw it on sale and had to buy it to go with the cola matcha. I haven’t tried it just cold yet though… I must try this and see if I like it better that way thanks for the idea :D
yes! I can’t wait! Your review just made me crazy excited. Yum!
And Helena, thank you for the idea! I know what I’ll be mixing with my cola matcha haha
ah! for a second I interpreted that as finishing the whole tin lol! I don’t even want to imagine what that would do to a person ;)
I LOVE the cola one, that’s a great idea to mix this one with that. I hope mine is waiting for me at home.
DaisyChubb: Holy cow! LOL! No, just the 1/2 teaspoon in my water bottle gave me a buzz! I think the whole tin would put me in hospital! But you are right, it definitely could easily read that way.
Amanda: your lip balm feels like SILK! One was for me, the other two for daughter! Puppy Sam thinks my lips smell delicious so he gave me a kiss. LOL!
I really need to invest in some matcha from Red Leaf; the problem is they all look so good I cant decide which to get. Here at school its so easy to get bottled water; I may just try this, thanks sooo much! What about mixing the cherry with coconut; it might work better with the mango but might be good with this. Loved your post!
I just tried the Cola one with cold water and ice and it’s the best way I’ve had this one so far. Definitely the way I’m drinking this one from now on. I’ll try it with the others later :D
Hooray! I am so glad to be having success with making matcha all sorts of ways! I thought it was going to be challenging but it is really easy! Glad you liked your cola, Helena! That does seem to best way to make it.
KittyKat – that is my big problem. What to order next? And now my hubby is trying to get my Black Cherry matcha (IT SMELLS LIKE KOOLAID! he says!) and my daughter has finished the mocha matcha and I still want about five more flavors!
This one really does have a creamy consistency! It’s so tasty.
I know right? I think we can all agree on its deliciousness ;)
Yes I do love this one. Very nice when mixed with the Strawberry Matcha too.
Well well Liberteas, I know what I will be bringing to work tomorrow :D
I am about to mix this with orange!
