Take a look at my girlfriend, she’s the only one I got
Not much of a girlfriend, never seem to get a lot
Take a jumbo across the water, like to see America
See the girls in California
I’m hoping it’s going to come true but there’s not a lot I can do …..
No idea if this blend is a tribute to Supertramp’s song breakfast in America…but it makes the job !
What a lovely naturally malted and chocolatey blend. The base is not as strong as I feared but yes, it reminds me a little Wedding Impérial, I agree cteresa.
For me I keep my Wedding because there is caramel inside but this one is really a very good MF and for sure it will go sometimes in my cupboard.
Thank you so much for sharing this one with me cteresa.
Another plain tea I love !
Preparation
This tastes like a memory I’m having trouble placing, something from childhood. Candy strawberry and flowers, a memory-provoking perfume. I’d say it’s a little like those tinned little fruity hard candies from Europe, or even slightly like the gooey centers in those strawberry candies, sized and textured like lozenges, that come in wrappers designed to resemble a (clip art-ish) fresh strawberry, you know the ones I mean? A bit like that. I loved those and would gorge on ‘em ’til my teeth hurt when I was a kid (and I wasn’t really a candy person in general). So this was a sweet reminder this morning of something I used to be very fond of as a kid. The French and their perfuming skills!
That said, this does still have that tinge of fruit-tart bitterness that seems inevitable whenever strawberry mixes with black tea. It’s not something I enjoy. But it’s almost worth it, for that sense memory the smell and the front of the sip give me.
Preparation
We went to the zoo today and I rushed out the door without any tea and while we had a great AWESOME day, (especially because no one was there!) I’m totally drained and in need of tea.
I wanted something fantastic, and this is it.
I can’t believe JustJames sent a sample of this as I would totally be tempted to hoard it. :P OTOH, when you have something fantastic it’s exciting to see how others like it too. Either way, THANK YOU. :P
And so, how to describe this? I wish I hadn’t drank all of this today in a way because my head isn’t quite able to describe this.
It’s liquid moonlight. Vanilla dancing with cornflowers. Soft perfume floating in the air and a touch of sweet blackberry fruit to give it some weight.
I had Adagio’s Jane Austen Mafia yesterday, and this is the grown-up version of that. Superb.
Preparation
A tasty treat from Sil!
Thanks!!
I know I should offer more description, but all I can say is this: One of my students has a french au pair nanny who brings her to her lessons. I might ask her to pick up some of this when she goes home for a visit. We’ve had some nice conversaions about tea, & what a wonderful company mariage Freres is.
I’m just used to more words here from Terri, granted they are usually more about gardening and music than about the tea. . but hey it’s something! I just like to give her a hard time :)
Ughghgh I’m so behind on my NaNoWriMo project. I hate to think it, but I might not finish by the 30th this year…I’m just above 12000 words. There is still a bunch of music to prepare for upcoming concerts, including one tomorrow! Oh well, thus is life…
shelley – agreed..it was either that or she REALLY hated the tea and didn’t want me to know since it’s one of my favourite chocolate teas ever…
LOL, I loved it. Did you read the part about getting the nanny to try to get some when she’s in france? LOL
Hey!! I’m the oldest sister and I’m my littlest sister’s favorite! (^o^)
ok, I’ll shut up now. But I expect more entertaining notes from Terri in the future!
I’ll do my best! LOL!
Sil, I think you’re the same age as my oldest daughter, so theoretically, I could be your mother!
But I like being sisters better!
Shelley, I’m also the oldest sister. One of my sisters is on Steepster, MsWhatsit. The youngest sister is not, but I think eventually she might be.
The sister of whom I spoke is on here too, but not active. she drinks tea b/c I drink tea and she joined steepster b/c Im on Steepster (sweet little 15y/o protégé she is) but I coudln’t get her motivated to keep a tea log. She has a single tasting note. But she reads mine sometimes. she is ‘mountainfountain’ with an avatar of her super creepily cute cat ( the archetypal cat of so-cute-its-scary).
That’s good, cuz being a mom sometimes gets a little old. Especially with 3 of my adult children living here with me.
I’m much happier being a sister!! So we will continue on as Tea Sibblings, LOL.
This cup is just what I needed to wake up and focus on some homework! It’s a bit thick and a little astringent. This seems like it would be the perfect tea to have with milk, but I’m having it plain today. I catch some smoke and some floral notes as well. The floral notes come towards the end of the sip and help to round out the cup. The smoky flavors are quite mild which is nice as I don’t care very much for teas with heavy smoke. There is a bit of a lingering sweetness with the astringency — quite brisk yet smooth. I’m excited to see how this one will be with milk — I’ll add it next time! Thank you to Scheherazade for sharing!
I keep on messing up this tea. It’s too expensive for me to keep on messing up! :)
Steeped it close to 18 minutes today, completely by accident. Therefore, I’m definitely getting some bitterness at the end of the sip, however the clove shines now, and the orange is more prominent. Still missing anything vanilla, bourbon or custard however… then again, I’m not using milk or sweetener, and there is a slight caramel finish. Still good though, and hopefully next time I can do this right.
Preparation
It’s relatively expensive. Cost me $24/100g, and I found it at Holt Renfrew, if it helps. I can send you some?
French teas = expensive. Good to know it’s at Holt Renfrew. I called there and spoke with a snooty receptionist who said they weren’t carrying Mariages Freres, so thank you MissB for confirming with me :)
Holt Renfrew most definitely carries it; they probably didn’t realize you were speaking of tea. Mostly sachets though, although this came in a tin. In Vancouver they’re in the mall downtown (Pacific Centre?). Walk to Holt Renfrew from the upstairs walkway from the mall, and as you enter the store they should be all right there, kind of blocking you from getting past them.
Ysaurella, someone will ask you to be a tea mule if you aren’t careful! :) The cost is so high because of availability here and shipping. Cheapest I can find it online is 13.50 euros, and then shipping is 25 euros. The only other place I could find in town that sells MF teas, sells them for $38 CDN a tin.
sil has it all broken down: with shipping if you buy 13 blends/100g per it’s 16$ canadian INCLUDING shipping. (she’s got a whole algorithm thing going). costs a lot less if you go for bags versus tins. ysaurella had to bludgeon me a few times before i saw that, lol. pretty tins…..
It’s in the Holiday Gift Shop area of Holt Renfrew, with all the jams and italian boxed cakes and things.
Ah, thank you OMGsrsly. I’m having computer problems, or else I would’ve posted pretty much exactly that.
I’ll likely buy a whack of DM and The O Dor my next paycheck (so, end of the month), if anyone wants to grab some with me since 100g is just so much… and then save on shipping, too.
My lips and mouth are still swollen and burning from Bolero earlier today, so I should probably hold off on rating anything else until I’m done. :( Still, I did brew a few cups of this and therefore wanted to log it.
Smells like marzipan a bit as I opened the tin, and something chemical-ish. It’s normally what I associate with some sort of processed nut flavoring, although I’m still puzzled by it. Steeped, this smells more like cloves and cinnamon than anything.
This tastes like a nice black chai with some almonds in the finish. The orange is very subtle, and I only got it after adding some Truvia. It’s well into the sip, and lingers a bit along with the cinnamon/spice. Oddly, I get zero almond or marzipan taste, although this does feel creamy.
Would be delicious as a latte! Will have to try later when the reaction has disappeared completely.
Oh! Also, this is listed as “Esprit de Noel” on my tin.
Preparation
This is a beautiful tea, both in how it smells and what it looks like. My immediate thought was Mediterranean, which is a bit odd considering I think more olives, feta and pasta -like smells when thinking of that part of the world. The apricot/peach is strong, as is something else fruity and deep.
I was a bit concerned with my first sip that there are strawberries in here, which I’m allergic to. I tried finding a list of ingredients however I gave up; the box just says black tea, cornflower, mallow and flavors. Sigh.
I took two sips, even though the first one confirmed for me there are strawberries in here, I just had to taste to make sure. (Call me willful). It’s a tart, earl grey -like black, with apricot and peaches at the forefront, and I think a flowery fig in there somewhere, too. Definitely strawberries as well, and something rosey. I’d love it and drink more if I could, and it would likely hold up well to some cream and sugar.
And so, I will package this up for my teenage daughter to drink, because I know she’ll love it. If anyone would like to try some of this in the impending swaps, let me know.
Which, incidentally, three packages showed up today, however Canada Post just left the note to pick them up tomorrow. I’m really hoping it’s my Red Leaf and 52Teas orders! :)
Preparation
I bought a tin of this. The earl grey comment scares me – ick. I was expecting black fruity. Will have to try it and see….
(According to the tracking, one of those packages should be my swap package to you.)
Maybe it is black fruity; the allergic reaction definitely messed with my ability to taste.
And, yay! I’d hoped the third one was yours. If 52Teas is with it, I can send you off your package, finally. :)
Mmm… I was going to have another coffee this morning, then decided to have a tea latte instead.
Brewed in milk and water, with a touch of vanilla sugar to sweeten.
This particular tin is old, and so the black base is not as good as I remember it being. But the spice balance for this tea is delicious. Hopefully it’ll help wake me up on this sunny yet chilly day!
