And that’s the end of this one! Down to 109 teas! :O
So, yeah. I guess getting to 100 in a month will be a snap?
It makes a big difference once you stop buying ALL tea. Damn. Still it’s nice to go through my cupboard, figure out what I like and don’t, and drink down everything so it doesn’t get stale. I tried nearly 500 teas last year. I don’t think I’ll try so many this year. I think I’ll get more comfortable with what I like and experiment less, and that’s ok too. (Also cheaper because I can order more from one place and save on shipping/get cheaper prices!)
Ha – my calculations suggest that it’d take 250 days to drink all the tea I currently own. So, yeah. I don’t need more. Ha.
This poor tea! This is my third cup and every time I try to review it, something prevents me. This last time I just lost my note because I opened up 8tracks in another tab of my browser and crashed the entire thing. Stupid, stupid me. I know 8 tracks crashes Opera. I just wasn’t thinking.
Anyway, thank you Little Red Cup Tea Company for this generous sample. I have to say that I really like the marketing and packaging for this tea. It’s distinctive but looks great.
As for the tea, I haven’t had a lot of experience with Keemun’s, but I do enjoy this. It’s brisk and smoky but not as smoky as lapsang souchong. (My throat doesn’t feel like it’s being grated). There’s a bit of natural sweetness to this that I enjoy and there’s no sign of astringency. It tastes ok cold too, which is good to know as I let this sit too long!
I need to get some! I didn’t bring syrup with me when I moved and haven’t replaced it yet!
But… this weekend?
I had a bad feeling about this, as the dry leaf had no detectable aroma. Does no aroma translate to no flavor? No, it does not!
As i pulled the tea basket from the pot after brewing I caught the wonderful, albeit weaker, scent of black tea. A good sign. The tea itself was a pale root beer color, not the green color I had expected. Another good sign.
The flavor was mild, but complex, with vegetal and floral notes giving way to a soft malt then finally to a soft butteriness.
This tea is definitely not your typical green tea, but yet not a black tea either. It is, however, flavorful and attractive, even to this dedicated black tea drinker.
I used 2 tsp. per 8 oz. cup, at 185F for 3 minutes. I may use more leaf next time, just to see what will happen.
This is a tea I’d recommend.

Preparation
For those who might be wondering, no, I have not abandoned my sipdown extravaganza. I just haven’t had a chance to list the last couple of days worth of teas. All the empty packages are sitting on my desk as a reminder to do so, & I will, but not this weekend, since I’m at Tony’s. I brought my tin of LB & the adorable bag of teas Sil left on my front porch last weekend, & this one came from that bag. Thanks, wonderful tea sister, for this generous sharing, as I really enjoyed this one & was disappointed when that company closed.
Little Red Cup Tea Co. closed? Are you sure?

Unfortunately, they currently don’t offer their organic Keemun Black Tea. Hopefully, they’ll find a new of organic grower of it.
Currently, they only offer 1 black tea: http://littleredcuptea.com/collections/organic-tea/products/wuyuan-black
We’re very much not closed! Our Keemun has been replaced by the Wuyuan Black looseTman linked to. We’ve also got a Lapsang Souchoung (another black). Looking to add more this year!
Sorry, I inadvertently overlooked your Lapsang Souchoung.
I look forward to your 2015 tea selection. Will you have a new Keemun?
Ooops!! Why did I think you guys closed?
I’m glad to hear you didn’t! The Wuyuan sounds wonderful, & as soon as I can start buying tea again, I’ll be sure to get some. I also really did enjoy this Keemun, so hopefully sometime you’ll bring it back as well.
Another Sipdown, Sil! 198!
This is a really nice Keemun, beautifully balanced & delicious.
I thank Little Red Cup for this generous sample, & will no doubt have to add this to my ordering list.
This is Delicious!
Thanks to the Little Red Cup for sending me this tasty sample. I really enjoy Keemuns, but of course no two are ever alike. The flavors I tend to look for are a little smoke & a brown sugar sweetness, a pleasant richness that is a little fruity/earthy/& sometimes slightly floral.
It’s all here in my cup, beautifully balanced, absolutely delicious.
That’s all I can say. Thank you. I’ll be adding this to my collection.
I LOVED this tea. Little Red Cup sent me a sample of this tea and I was shocked by the subtle sweetness that lingered in my mouth afterwards. You taste the green tea but then comes this delicious slightly sweet flavor. My boyfriend, who’s not so much a tea drinker, loved this tea too! So much that he wants us to get it as soon as possible. So far thumbs up to LRC for sending me a great sampler so quickly! Diffidently shopping here!
Preparation
pppsssst…. i had the last of this today…because the rest is off to my tea sister since i was able to secure the last of this from little red cup. they no longer source it now…so the very last of it is off to terri to have some. Because she also really liked this one. and now it’s gone. sad day.
tea from today…with a little maple syrup added. delicious! Really glad i got to order this now that i’s never coming back. Also glad to have at least one keemun in my cupboard, though i guess as of today there are a few more lol
YUM! thank you Little Red Cup for this generous sample! This was the tea to kick off my morning at work and man it did the trick. As with all keemuns, i added a splash of maple syrup and it was so very delicious with this tea. It’s a little smokier than some keemuns that i’ve had but since i’m ok with smokey, i was ok with this tea! YUM!that’s about all i remember from this morning. deliciously smokey and yummy and yay!
Preparation
I still haven’t tried this one yet, Ikeep getting side tracked, speaking of which my TTC order arrived today! Yay!
Water: 8oz boiled
Leaves: tiny tea leaves
Steep: 2-4 minutes
Aroma: regular black tea
Color: Deep golden yellow
Taste: I was happy to receive this in the mail & I was surprised at how large of a sample it was! I went to brewing later that evening to pair this with dinner that night. I can say the flavor of this tea wasn’t too strong but a nice & light. This is also the first tea that I managed tested out cold brewing for the first time and it worked just fine.
*Thank you Little Red Cup for the free sample
Preparation
This Mao Lian also know as Jade Sword is my second sample from Little Red Cup Tea.
I had some Mao Lian before so i don’t need to doubt myself while brewing this tea. For my first cup i used 70°c water and a fairly big teaspoon of these nice dark green leafs. Once brewed these leafs look a bit like seaweed and the color of my cup turns a bright green.
This mao jian is a very refreshing green tea with some hints of cream and best off all it doesn’t turn bitter at all. This is a good tea for warm afternoons when u need some hydration!
I comparing my 2 samples from red cup this one is my personal favorite. Tough the white monkey tasted good it wasn’t 100% my thing. This one is more up my ally and would drink it on a very regular base!
Preparation
This tea has a strong floral, green taste. It holds up well for multiple steeps of it. I definitely prefer shorter steeps since I went a little long at first and the floral taste was too strong. It does have a dry mouth effect after a while. I got hungry and ate some Milano melts cookies with it. The cookies are so sweet that together with the tea, it all tasted really decadent and just right to start my lazy morning. No more school for a week, oh the relief… I’m going to try really hard not to think of my students and just relax. Oh! Also with the sample came a cute bookmark that had steeping and tea info so that was helpful.
Thank you for the free sample Little Red Cup Tea Company!
Wow! That’s pretty amazing.
But the OBJECT is to BUY ALL THE TEA!!!
i agree with anna…only it’s TRY all the tea!
:P It’s a good goal, but I can’t always remember what the difference between X and Y are, so it makes it harder to keep track of all the great teas, and which ones are better etc. My spreadsheet helps, and I do want to try more, but I don’t feel the need to get ALL of them. :P My palette just isn’t sophisticated enough to appreciate some of the differences in the same type of tea.
Don’t get me wrong though – as soon as I get a job I’m placing an order somewhere, for something, to celebrate!
(And getting a new kettle!)
