On the walk home I stopped in a small grocery to look around and felt weird about walking out empty handed after being in there so long. Grabbed a cold bottle of this one the way out. This is my first time trying Honest Tea, and I always thought I’d like it because it’s everything I want. It’s in a glass bottle, only lightly sweetened, not flavored overwhelmingly with cheap flavor, and uses citric acid as a preservative. Plus oolong! Oolongs are great iced!
Unfortunately this was not very good. Tasted like watery black tea that’s been sitting out for too long. Has a weird flavor I always associated with American plastic bottled teas. Sweetness and peach flavor was spot on though. I’m not sure if I will try another, but I’m almost wishing I picked up a kombucha instead of this and I know I don’t like that.
I just got back from a WONDERFUL long weekend at Lori Foster’s Reader & Author Get Together (RAGT) in Ohio. Had a great time. Coffee was plentiful. Tea was not. If I wanted hot tea there was a small basket of Lipton teabags. I drank coffee.
But the café sold bottles of this tea and I had to say I enjoyed it. It’s a blend of herbals and fruit juice, so not really a tea. There is some hibiscus in the mix (I abhor the tangy zing of hibiscus) but I didn’t notice it in this. It was a refreshing drink for a hot afternoon and I’m glad I tried it.
Preparation
I was out yesterday and in the mood for some iced tea, so I grabbed this one. It’s actually really good. Despite not having any sugar or artificial sweeteners, it has a definite sweetness to it. I’m not sure of the source of the green tea, or the sweetness, but it was very enjoyable. I haven’t had many bottled teas or iced green teas, so I wasn’t sure what to expect…it was a lot better than I expected!
I like this for lunch at work since its one of the few tea options the cafeteria downstairs have. It annoys me that we can’t get flavored blacks though – since I don’t really like white or green teas with any sweetener or anything.
Guess this means I should think ahead and steep my own ahead of time. Still, the sweet lemon flavor goes well with a black base…. I just know it would be better and fresher if I prepared it myself. Not to mention cheaper!
Had some of this at Whole Foods where we stopped to get lunch today. I have a soft spot for anything having to do with Berke Breathed because he used to do the comic for my college newspaper before he did Bloom County, and the label gets a lot of mileage out of his being among the company’s first customers. There’s a picture of Opus the penguin on the front.
It’s decent for a bottled tea. I don’t taste a lot of oolong flavor, but I do taste the peach. It has some sugar in it making a bottle 60 calories, which I could do without. One of the reasons I drink tea is because it has no calories.
Flavors: Peach
I had this tea today with my lunch. It’s amazing that I still feel the need to buy any bottled tea with all the teas I have in my stash. Still, sometimes this is nice for convenience.
It does have a mystery ingredient which seems kind of citrusy to me. I have to wonder if it’s ascorbic acid powder or something of that nature, which would also serve as a preservative. This is a good basic iced tea because it’s calorie free and doesn’t have a lot of flavorful additions. I also like the Moroccan mint iced tea by this company.
