I do love GenMatcha, I love every thing about it from its nuttiness, creaminess, earthiness, etc and so on.
I will say this one is alright. I would drink it pretty much anytime.
However, if it were my dime. I would get Den’s brand – it is a lot richer than this one.
This one has all the flavor components but is a bit weaker and lacks some of the complexity of Den’s.

This is a very, very scented tea. It doesn’t really taste like dragonfruit the way it really comes off as lychee.

I made it for iced tea, and it feels like as it gets colder it cuts down on the very perfumelike taste this has. It’s not too bad but I’m not big on flavors like this.

Thanks for some to try, The DJBooth!

Full Review on http://sororiteasisters.com/ today at 6 central time but here are snippets:

The aroma of Sinharaja from Golden Moon Tea is delightful. It smells rich, robust, sweet, and full of molasses. Yet to balance out this sweet tea we have an almost spicy, woodsy flavor. It is quite delicious. Now I can’t say it is the most robust black tea, nor the heaviest in the mouthfeel. Actually I have had teas with far more depth of flavor than Sinharaja, however I do love this tea. I like the subtle astringency indicative of a breakfast tea, without the ability for it to easily become bitter when oversteeped. Let’s face it, if I am going to over steep a tea it is going to be when I am barely awake, in the mornings. Well in honesty my mornings are more early afternoon, but you get the idea.

There is a earthy yet sweet balance in this tea that keeps drawing me back. Chocolate notes that seem almost creamy as the cup cools some present. Bright berry notes do liven up the cup giving an almost sparkly like sensation to the palate. The berries taste more red berry, perhaps even a slight cherry or perhaps raspberry note to the cup. Based on the sparkly sensation I am going to have to go with very sweet raspberry.

gmathis

I tried this a while back; first time I’d ever encountered “molasses” vibes in a cuppa. Wasn’t bad!

Azzrian

Thanks! I noticed that when it gets cold it gets almost peppery – I am second guessing having it iced but will still try it.

ifjuly

First ceylon I’ve ever had that was so striking and memorable I put it into regular rotation. Yum.

I had a sample of this. Its really good. Smells really deep, very much like molasses.
Its rich, complex, a little smoky and woodsy.
I could see this being a replacement for that morning cup of coffee.
Added some milk (just a little) and a tiny bit of sugar in the raw and it does not seem to drown out the rich flavors at all and does enhance them.
I am surprised – this is one of my favorites from Golden Moon so far.
I could see reordering this one.
I so wish that their sample packs had enough for two brews.
I will see how this does on the re-steep and if it brews well I will add it to my shopping list.

I had been wondering about this one. I’ll have to try it.

Azzrian

the re-steep was pretty decent. I put it on my shopping list. So far it is my favorite sample from this company.

Full Review tomorrow on http://sororiteasisters.com/ but here are the snippits and a special thank you to Alpahkitty for this sample!

White Persian Melon from Golden Moon Tea is one of my top five favorites from this company.

There is just such a light and lively flavor to this delicate Bai Mudan. The aroma is sweet and juicy fresh and reminds me of why I am longing for summer.

White Persian Melon also has a tad bit of a wine like flavor to me, almost bordering on a brandy like essence which I really enjoy.

ms.aineecbeland

Something of Numi Organic Tea reminds me of Persian melon and Peony teas.

I wish I had enough for another brew! Its not that I am in LOVE with this one but in comparison to the Sugar Carmel Oolong that I did not like at all this one is far better!
While not that strong in flavor I can in fact taste the flavors peeking through. It was nice, subtle but nice. Actually reminded me a slight bit of a wine. I may have to add this to my shopping list and give it another go. Something about it just still is making me want to pull the trigger and make an order soon. Will update if I do!

Steep 1: 2:30 Minutes Toasty Roasty Oolong with a lovely sweet brown sugar, caramelized sugar, brown sugar flavor. Delicious and intriguing!

I had this when I first began drinking loose leaf and do not recall enjoying it quite so much. Now I appreciate all the elements in this tea!

The leaves in this tea are SO huge and expand SO large that you really need quite the large brew basket for them or just put them in your pot or cup and strain them.

You can really smell the vegetal roasted oolong in this blend and the flavors do not over take the aroma or flavor of this very nice oolong.

Steep 2: 3:00 Minutes – I concur with others who have said that the sugar comes out more prominent in this steep, yet there is a wet leaves earthy flavor there as well. It has not lost the toasty element and a nutty flavor is present as well. These remind me quite a bit of those caramelized nuts you can get at fairs and in the mall.

I probably won’t have time to continue logging this but if I do I will come back and add to my notes here but this is really quite lovely.

They have this tea along with coconut pouchong which I ADORE on Open Sky for sale 28 for both. I may have to grab some one of these days if they don’t sell out.

K S

This was one of my first loose leaf teas as well. I knew nothing about loose tea back then. I fixed this in a tea ball. I liked it a lot but didn’t know how to really appreciate it.

Azzrian

Exactly. Its still not the best tea in the world or anything but now that I know how to brew it properly it is MUCH better. Haha of course the tea isn’t better – I am but it makes for a much better brew to know what one is doing :)

Got this when I purchased a cold brewing tea container – sorry its late I can’t remember the name of it now. Anyway I have been looking forward to trying Golden Moon Teas and I am pretty disappointed in this one. I see how high of ratings this has received but I just don’t understand. Its quite bland and while I appreciate a flavored tea that is not in my face with flavors and of course prefer one flavored naturally over artificially, this one just leaves me underwhelmed. I barely taste the tea itself and really I am not getting the sugar or carmel flavors. Now the tea when dry smells okay – I mean I can smell the flavor but even then is a bit on the weak side.
Wish I enjoyed it more but to be perfectly honest was not even worth a re-steep.

Another sample I received from them yesterday (only two left). Opening the package I instantly smell mint and vanilla, like a creme de menthe. The wet leaves, which are very disappointingly broken little things, smell like an Andy’s candy:chocolate and mint. I brewed this up at 175 instead of boiling because of the green tea in it. The package says boiling but I’m always afraid to bitter the green tea. It came out nice and smooth, the vanilla tempers the mint a bit and at first all I could taste was mint, black tea with a vanilla like aftertaste. Now that it’s starting to cool I can taste the green tea, it’s gunpowder green tea, I know that smokiness just about anywhere. I can definitely taste the flavors more as it cools, I would like to try this iced but I would have to buy more considering that I find that I have to use their entire sample to make a 10oz pot or cup. But it’s good and if I buy from them again this will be on the list!

Ordered a sample of this when I ordered my bulk order of Sinharaja. The color in my cup is darker than Sinharaja, but the overall feel and taste is sooooo similar to my beloved tea that I don’t really see the point of purchasing this one too. A good cuppa, don’t get me wrong…smooth, really drinkable, no bitterness that I can detect. A GOOD cup of tea this AM.

I cold brewed the last of this one. I switched things up this time around though. I started off with my 12oz Italian mug, I put the tea in, added a little bit of brown sugar and a splash of vanilla. Then I proceeded to fill the mug…but not with water…with milk. It sat in the fridge for about 48 hours and I’m now drinking it on this disgustingly hot day.

The milk is slightly discolored from the pouchong and is incredibly smooth and sweet and creamy and I need to buy more for this purpose! I even had my husband sip it and he didn’t think it was too bad. He hates coconut and doesn’t care for tea. This is incredibly delicious!

Okay, I know what I’m doing with the rest of my Coconut Pouchong!

Kittenna

…. it hadn’t even occurred to me to cold-brew a tea in milk!! How clever!! I need to try this :)

Invader Zim

Someone had mentioned they had added some milk to their cold brew, so I figured why not just cold brew it in milk? It came out great!

Pureleaf

I’m with Kittenna on this one – milk as a substitute for water? Sounds great! Gotta do this some time. Maybe. :) Makes me nervous. Guess I’ll have to take your word and try!

Invader Zim

I would suggest starting off with a mug instead of a full pitcher. Just to see if you like it. But I found it absolutely delicious!

Cold steeped this time after a comment from Amy-oh. Just enough to make a 12oz mug. I added a little bit of brown sugar to it like I do for all my cold-brews and let it sit overnight.

Drank it first thing this morning and boy was it good. The coconut seems a little sweeter and crisp and the pouchong tastes a little greener. There is still a very distinct creaminess to it but it’s not exactly buttery, it’s more like milk now.

The aftertaste is a little odd, I don’t know how to explain it, but it’s like an acquired taste. The first couple sips I was just like meh, then it wasn’t too bad and I didn’t mind it. It wasn’t astringent or bitter, but something along the same line.

Except for the aftertaste I like this better cold brewed, the flavors seem to pop a little more.

OMG – now I need to try this too!!!!

Kittenna

Ooooh, I had just been thinking last night as I drank some cooled Coconut Pouchong that it would be good iced!

LiberTEAS

Amy Oh… this is one of my very favorites from Golden Moon. It’s really quite amazing. You should try it.

TeaBrat

@LiberTEAS – lol, I have a tin of it at home. I’ve never tried it cold steeped though.

A generous sample from Azzrian thank you.

I like coconut and I like pouchong, so I couldn’t really have a problem with this one, and I most certainly did not! I can smell the coconut before I even open the bag, this is not a bad thing, I promise! The coconut mellows out a little when steeped, not quite as strong as the initial dry smell. Toasted coconut/coconut macaroons with a buttery texture and hints of vegetal. Absolutely wonderful tea.

The only problem I have with this tea is that most of the teas I have are light and delicate and this one is very potent in smell, so I have to keep this one away from the rest of them. It looks at me all by itself with puppy dog eyes wondering what it has done to be separated from the rest. I always reassure it that it’s because it’s special in a very good way.

Again, thank you Azzrian!

glad you liked it!! I only have tried a few golden moon teas that I would keep in my stash and this for sure is one of them! :)

TeaBrat

I need to try cold brewing this one. I wonder if it would taste like coconut milk?

Invader Zim

Ohh, cold brew sounds like it would be good. I don’t have a lot left, but I could make a mug of cold brew then review that.

TeaBrat

If you do, let me know how it goes!

Let me start by saying I love most anything coconut flavored. So, as any surprise, I’ve been eyeballing this tea for a while now. I finally received the sample package in the mail today with a few others and immediately opened this one. And what do I smell? Coconut, toasted coconut to be exact. I couldn’t quite put my finger on what exact kind of coconut it smelled like so I looked in the reviews and saw toasted coconut and coconut macaroons and they couldn’t be more correct. The wet leaves are large and dark green and smelled of pouchong more so than coconut but the taste was so well blended together. No one flavor overpowers the other, they are perfectly balanced. Nice smooth buttery notes from the pouchong mixed with sweet toasted coconut. Yum!

After my delicious experience with the Coconut Pouchong, I had high hopes for this one.

The dry leaf smelled amazing. It reminded me of the crust of a creme brûlée, one of my favorite desserts. After brewing, the tea seemed less like toasty caramel and more like roasty oolong with a hint of caramel in the background. I wanted a stronger caramel flavor than I got and the oolong was a bit darker than I preferred, but it was still pretty good. There’s definitely a nectary sweetness and roast flavor. I wouldn’t necessarily want this again, but it was enjoyable.

gmathis

When you hear “sugar” and “caramel” you expect something like Sugar Daddies—but this is awfully light.

Mercuryhime

After trick or treating, I would divide my candy into piles. The Awesome pile was savored slowly and the Eww pile was nibbled on with distaste or given away. The Sugar Daddies went into the Eww pile. :) So I guess I’m saying that I’m glad this didn’t taste like Sugar Daddies. haha

But I do agree the the flavor is light. It could have been so good!

TeaBrat

I totally agree, I was expecting something much more like a dessert tea with the name…

Mercuryhime

As long as they keep making the Coconut Pouchong, they’ll still be awesome in my eyes. That tea makes up for all.

I’m drinking the very last of this right now with my husband! I think that out of the two coconut pouchongs that I have tried (this and Adagio) I prefer this one. This one has a great deal more vanilla flavoring that I think helps to smooth out the tea. It is very mellow and has some really great sweet notes. I usually steep this tea 3-4 times; which really brings the value of it up in my book.

This tea and me are having a not-so-secret love affair! My sample is almost gone (2 more rations most likely). I used an extra large helping of leaves today for this steep.
Lovely as usual! It smells like light yellow coconut cake. All it needs is vanilla frosting! I think this is a great indulgence type tea that helps keep me away from sweets. I take it plain as usual. I usually get 4 really great steeps out of this tea. I use a much lower amount of water (5-6oz) per 1tsp of leaves; which really brings out the flavor. This is a must have for the following people: coconut fans, people who like sweet tea, oolong fanatics.

I think I’m going to run out of this pretty fast!
This tea smells delicious and is never disappointing. It smells and tastes wonderful. I think that this is easily my favorite coconut tea. It has lots of soft vanilla notes that are really what won me over.
I think that this is now my favorite tea that I currently have on hand!

TeaBrat

looks like you’ll have to buy some. :)

Tamm

I think I will! I just got the 15% off coupon and I’m trying to not just run around buying all the tea!

Dinosara

This is one of my faves and I don’t have any! Stupid tea buying moratorium. :)

TeaBrat

I need to go on a tea buying moratorium. :)

Tamm

I’ve been on one for the past few months also! It’s pretty hard when there are so many tasty things out there. If I wasn’t having one I’d have already placed a David’s order for some of the Goldrush.

ScottTeaMan

Tea moratoriums? I am on one…….well, I was until I bought some tea from Amazon a few days ago. :p

Omigosh I’ve craved this since last night, but it was too late to be drinking caffeine. It smells so soft and cake like. I wish I had some yellow cake because it would be perfect together. I love this tea so much! I think that it is now in the running for “top tea” and in competition with milk oolong. Just lovely.

More tea from Amy oh! Gosh this one smells nice. I think it smells a lot like cake. The coconut is very mellow in this.
Oh my gosh. This is so good! I’ve always heard good things about this tea and now I know why! This is also the first tea I’ve had from Golden Moon tea. It tastes a lot like cake! I really love how well the oolong base and the coconut flavor mix together. Neither of them overpowers the other.
I think this would be a great tea to have with crunchy cookies!

I decided to follow Steepster’s advice in pairing this with chocolate and it is quite yummy. The chocolate that I chose was a raw dark chocolate, and this was a good and bad choice … good in that I noticed much more of the depth of flavors and complexity of the raw chocolate, and the chocolate really enhances the coconut flavors nicely. Bad because the pairing also emphasized the lack of roasted flavor of the cacao and I found myself wanting that richness more with this pairing than I would have if I ate the chocolate alone.

A very yummy pouchong… this is definitely one of my faves from Golden Moon.

I am ready to admit that I love coconut. I never thought I did but after slowly coming around to it in small doses in other blends, I was ready to take a leap with this latest installment from Steepster Select. This is amazing! It has a toasted flavor to it. It has a great bouquet of florals, and I’m really enjoying it!

This isn’t something I would have picked out on my own, but I am so glad that SS has better taste than I do.

Smells strongly of sweet, milky coconut but the tea’s taste is pleasantly subtler. The coconut only enhances the oolong’s naturally round mouth feel.
