American Tea Room

I got this as a free sample sachet. Thank you American Tea Room! I feel monotonous for all the 80’s I’ve given, but all the teas I’ve had deserve decent ratings.

I’ve had so many frickin versions of this tea, and the spearmint of this one is fresh thank heavens. It was just barely crisp enough for me to drink straight, but some honey would be a natural compliment. I only brewed each cup two minutes, and two minutes and 20 seconds, so I tasted the green tea more in the background in the texture. The balance was nice and it was not too astringent or bitter.

The sachets are on the pricy end of 10 bucks for 15 sachets, but the loose leaf is actually a decent price of about $25.20 for the 7 ounce serving. I personally do not prefer this type of tea often, but I have to say this product compared to what I had in Egypt so long ago which is saying something. I definitely recommend this if you are into mint or if you have a penchant for Marrakesh Green Tea. Now to figure out when to travel to Morocco in an impossibly more pleasant political environment.

I ordered 2 oz for a one day 50 off sale. I should have ordered a pound for half off instead because this tea is almost perfect for me.

Getting two nit picks out of the way: one, it is way too overpriced, and two the body does not re-brew as well as other teas of the same price. That said, the taste would fall into a category of favorites.

The leaves have a delicate roast producing a thick coconut oil from the tea leaves that permeates your cup and stays on your fingertips. It’s like removing coconut macaroons from a cookie sheet.

The tea itself is predictable but excellent: a lightly buttery body that is naturally sweet, fruity, fragrant, and with a bare toastiness in the aftertaste. The florals get more pronounced with each resteep, and the profile is soft and creamy. It does have a little bit of grassiness from the Baozhong, but it’s closer to lemon grass or pineapple in my opinion. The roast makes it barely noticeable, but its still a very green tea.

Of course this was western, but I Gong Fu does not yield too much of a difference. It just divides the tea into noticeable steps. First steep is creamy light coconut, secondd is like coconut oil with that coming toastiness, the third is more coconut with a touch of green pineapple, fourth is more coconut floral, green, and a little bit of toastiness. I’m impressed with the roast making this more like a light desert than a mega savory tea. It’s the exact balance I like.

Getting two ounces was a smart idea for the sheer quantity of tea I have. However, I wish I took better advantage of that sale and designated this as my bulk tea instead. But the price, even at discount is still high. If only Zen Tea continued to have their coconut oolong. I’d regularly give this tea a 98 or 97, but price is the big thing that lowers my rating. I’d recommend this for coconut tea lovers anyway.

The company had a mega sale, so I took advantage to finally try a few blends I’ve wanted to for a while. They were incredibly generous this time and actually granted me a sample of this from request. It would have costed $10 for a sample otherwise.

The high reviews from a few key people perked my interest, and since this milk oolong used Tie Guan Yin for the base, I was naturally intrigued. Brewing it up at 2 minutes, it was creamy and floral. The natural orchid florals of the oolong blended fairly naturally with the buttery cream flavor. It has a light and well rounded balance of savory and crispness overall. So think flower creamer leaning towards condensed milk, though it is not as sweet as other milk oolongs. It definitely is far from fake.

I got three brews out of it with the third leaning more on its Tie Guan Yin qualities. I would normally rate this tea between a 85-90 because it definitely suits my preferences, but the megalithic price is the main thing that I hold against this tea. Great quality, yes, but I’ve had other Tie Guan Yin’s that had some of the complexities this had for much cheaper. It was actually comparable to What-Cha’s Winter Tie Guan Yin which was fairly creamy on its own, though a step less creamy then this. I do love the cream flavor combo for this tea and I am very glad to have tried it, but I cannot justify the price for this tea which is why I rate this one lower. I doubt that the profile would change too much gong fu.

Sipdown! I had a sample sachet of this I got free with my last Am. Tea Room order. Unfortunately I oversteeped it. Maybe I should have had this iced.

The base was super bitter (I had to dilute it 50%, and it was still bitter), but I wish I had soy milk and sweetner because this could be fixed. Maybe this tea isn’t made to be had plain, or maybe I ruined it by leaving the bag in a few minutes too long. I really like the spice combo (perfect blend of ginger, cardamom, cinnamon, clove, and pepper). It is also vaguely nutty.

Got this as a sample. The description talks about chocolate and tobacco undertones and a fruity aftertaste — I’m not sure I’m getting all that, but it is a flavorful earl grey, nice and punchy, with a hint of smoke. I still prefer the H&S earl grey supreme that’s become one of my cupboard staples; it’s a bit lighter and brighter and more citrusy, and just more my style, but this is still good.

Absolutely delicious. Steeped twice.

This tea is really interesting because it is actually tea. It is made from the flowers of the tea plant. I steeped 2 tsp in hot water for 2 minutes.

It has a puerh type flavour (aged flavour, a bit musty, but nothing like ripe), I wouldn’t call it floral exactly, but it is very sweet (nectar, smells intensely of honey). It has the sweetness of dried fruit (think apply chips or dried apricots). It is quite unique because it isn’t similar to any herb or tea I’ve had before (except other tea flower teas). If you like flavours of honey, bamboo shoots or bamboo flour, and dried fruit, you will probably enjoy this tea.

I’m not getting any smoke, but I can taste dates and citrus fruits in a fruity and floral black base. Not a lot going on in this cup, but it was stored with other teas and I only took 1/2 tsp out of the TTB. I brewed for 8 minutes, but I also used ~600 mL hottish water.

Sipdown! Cold brewed 1 tsp leaf in 500 mL cold water (cold brew in my Teavana Perfecttea maker) It handled three steeps quite well.

This is a delicious blend that is enjoyable hot, cold, with sweetener, with milk, plain. It’s super versatile and very drinkable plain or with additives. You can’t overbrew it, either. I will be buying a larger amount next time I order from American Tea Room. This is going to become a staple in my cupboard, it’s soooo good. Cream, caramel, rootbeer, honeybush sweetness. Just so good.

To this day, I pronounce it “sasparilla”. I think I misheard it in a children’s show or something a long time ago and only not realise I’ve had it wrong this whole time. Well, I was partially correct.

This tastes like foamy rootbeer, with undertones of caramel, vanilla, cream, cinnamon, and brown sugar. A beautiful and unique dessert tea that is also great with sweetener or iced (I find it tastiest hot/plain, but whatever floats your boat!) It is also far superiour to that rootbeer float black tea sample I’ve been holding onto since last summer from David’sTeas. a) its herbal b) it is a much creamier and more complex in flavour, which makes it a more pleasant drink. I really like how buttery and caramelly it is, without being too extreme in any direction.

No. Just no. This tea made me nauseous. The smell makes me nauseous and the taste makes me nauseous too. Its way too sweet. Way too marzipan. Theres nothing that cuts that sweetness. It needed another component…like more nuts or apple or something. The sweetness was too overpowering. I wish I never got it such a waste of money!

I dont know! I dont know how i feel about this tea…it smells almost like forever nuts from DAVIDsTEA. It doesn’t taste that way though. I do get a hint of bread/yeast. It almost tastes like sweetbread filled with almonds and almond cream or something. But not in a cherry/artificial way. In a good way. I am gonna try it again tomorrow and see how i feel then.

One of the best spelling teas yet!

Hints of honey, date, fig, caramelised pecan/toffee, almond, cherry, and marzipan. These delicious flavours are accompanied by vanilla and black tea. It is all around spiced, creamy, and very nutty. Absolutely delicious! I’m glad I added this caffeinated tea to my cart. I don’t need more caffeine, but you know how it goes with teas.
