This is my favourite bergamot tea! As it turns out, strawberries, bergamot, and a bold black tea go well together. I drank every cup with a touch of vanilla soy milk and 1/2 tsp sugar and it was perfect. I think the milk and sugar bring out the strawberry a bit more and make it super smooth.

Flavors: Bergamot, Creamy, Earl Grey, Fruity, Smooth, Strawberry, Sweet, Tannin

That’s sounds like a great combo!

This tea is pretty gross. Citrusy notes with some green tea and red rooibos (weird combo!) and then the juniper berries were oddly minty. The citrusy thing doesn’t go with the red rooibos or the juniper. The ginger + lemongrass combo is great but doesn’t go with the flavours previously mentioned. If you try to really focus on it the cup is drinkable.

Flavors: Astringent, Citrus, Ginger, Herbaceous, Herbs, Lemon, Lemongrass, Medicinal, Mint, Rooibos

This fine tea arrived in the TTB and I’ve actually always wanted to try it.

The ginseng made me a bit jittery (I don’t often drink caffeine or use any energy-related herbals) but it did taste quite nice. The oolong was slightly roasty but also had a floral and vegetal quality. I can taste minerals (rocks?) and molasses/burnt sugar from the oolong.

Flavors: Burnt Sugar, Herbs, Molasses, Roasted, Vegetal

A tasty dessert blend for a weird night. I’ve taken on another job at a university and and so I’m working some odd hours. I wanted something low caffeine but also comforting and rich. I’m trying to get through more of my caffinated teas because I have a record number of teas right now and I need to cut down by ~50 or more. I’ve had to store tea in my room because both of my drawers and the cabinet are full. Oops!

This has a lot of mint, but it certainly conveys candy cane because there is a nice dose of vanilla in there. I can taste the sugar/marshmallow flavour as well. The genmaicha is toasty but vegetal, which in my opinion clashes with the peppermint a bit. Rice + peppermint? hmm not my favourite combo. It was a good cup and I look forward to drinking it again however I probably would not buy it again. I like some of the other genmaichas better.

Flavors: Grain, Malt, Mint, Peppermint, Smooth, Toasted Rice, Toasty, Vanilla, Vegetal

Finally another sipdown. I have a record number of teas and I know the TTB is returning to me shortly.

The main flavours here are honey and malt. The honey is actually weirdly strong for me but it isn’t sweet at all. I had it with some unsweetened soy milk and now I’m remembering this would be better with a touch of sweetener.

Flavors: Honey, Malt, Tannic

Boiling 8 min or more 1 tsp 17 OZ / 500 ML

drank Nettle Chai by Teafarm

This sipdown is a long time coming. I’ve been giving away tasters of it in tea boxes and to friends and I’ve been drinking it when I remember. It is a tasty herbal, but to be honest I’m tired of it now.

Nettle is naturally slightly sweet (liked the smell of fried autum leaves), and never bitter or acidic. It makes a good base. The main problem with this tea is that the chai spices are lmited. I can taste some cinnamon and maybe clove but I think it really needs more of every spice. I like my chais to have a good level of peppercorn, clove, cardamom, and cinnamon with some spicy ginger. This tea is pretty mild.

I decided to use up the last of my pouch (still, there is enough for another cup but I’m getting through it) because it is getting quite old. The base doesn’t have a lot of flavour, but I can taste honey flavouring. I overleafed and brewed for quite a while and found I got more flavour from the base this way. It has cocoa notes, some bitterness, wood (like old antique furniture) which almost makes it a tiny bit smokey.

Flavors: Bitter, Cocoa, Dark Wood, Honey

Bio

I am a biochem major hoping for a career in research genetics and evolutionary biology. I love science fiction and spend too much of my time reading comic books. I’m a passionate keeper of spiders, cacti, and exotic plants. I eat a vegan, plant-based diet for moral and environmental reasons (I mention this only because it is relevant to which flavoured teas I drink).

I drink mostly flavoured and low caffeine teas/tisanes, but I will try anything twice. As far as pure teas go, I gravitate towards whites, yellows, and jade oolongs. I’m always open for trades and sample sales/exchanges. Message me any time :)

My cupboard is mostly up to date. For a more comprehensive list, see my stash spreadsheet here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1-HjWKR3um-xEnj6HC9vMvKXOAyj_bpW5u_2ixEC20-k/edit?usp=sharing
